Chapter 48: This soldier is mine. Whoever snatches me will be in a hurry!
At six o’clock in the morning, the wake-up signal rang punctually. Chen Ming and his comrades swiftly got out of bed, organized their attire and personal affairs, brushed their teeth, and washed up before assembling downstairs with the platoon leader.
Company Commander and three platoon leaders were already waiting. “Today is a special day to reap the results!” proclaimed the platoon leader after everyone gathered. “The hard work of the past three months is for today’s harvest. I hope you will perform well in the assessment and strive for a good result!”
“Now, follow me to the brigade headquarters. The assessment is about to begin!” The company commander led the team towards the brigade headquarters. Chen Ming took a deep breath, ready for the challenges ahead.
The assessment, spanning three days, encompassed four main categories: “theoretical assessment,” “physical fitness assessment,” “queue assessment,” and ‘military skill assessment.” Theoretical assessment resembled student exams, testing regulations and military common knowledge.
Physical fitness assessment included “three kilometers,” “pull-ups,” and “push-ups,” evaluating both speed and endurance. Queue assessment focused on teamwork, requiring synchronized team actions.
The final military skill assessment covered various tactical maneuvers, including firearm maintenance, practiced during training. Subjects for assessment were diverse.
The first task was the theoretical assessment in a large classroom. Each recruit had their desk with test papers and pens. Four instructors roamed for inspection, and cameras in each corner were monitored by examiners, preventing any possibility of cheating.
Today’s monitoring scene was bustling, crowded with company commanders eagerly watching. Arguments arose about which unit Chen Ming should join, adding tension to the atmosphere.
“Hu Zhihu, Chen Ming’s individual qualities make him perfect for our reconnaissance company. Why are you all trying to interfere?” Exclaimed one company commander.
“Tang Xinyi, why is the Information Department here? Chen Ming’s physical fitness is good; what’s the Information Department doing?” Questioned another.
Tang Xinyi retorted, “Who said good physical fitness disqualifies you from the Information Department? Chen Ming isn’t just physically fit; his hacking skills are impressive. If he wishes, he could easily access all your files!”
Unaware of Chen Ming’s breakthrough in the army system, the platoon leaders were intrigued. Upon hearing Tang Xinyi’s revelation, the company commanders expressed newfound interest.
“Is that so?!”
“I like him even more now!”
“This soldier is mine. None of you should try to snatch him; he’s mine. I’ll be furious if anyone tries!”
Although these units still rely heavily on physical energy, having professional hacking skills would be advantageous. Just imagine, during the exercise, when the other party just launched a drone for reconnaissance, we could hack into their system, disrupting the drone and causing them problems. Soldiers with this ability would be a great asset in both drills and actual combat!
Tang Xinyi realized her attempts to dissuade them only fueled their interest, leaving her frustrated. With a colonel rank on his shoulders, the brigade commander sternly addressed the room, demanding silence during the exam.
As the exam commenced, recruits from the second company seemed to finish exceptionally fast, prompting suspicion from other company commanders. The company commander, Lin Changfeng, explained that Chen Ming’s approach, involving nightly recitations, had effectively prepared the recruits for the theory exam.
The brigade commander, initially concerned, acknowledged Chen Ming’s unique method and continued observing the exam. However, increasing requests from other company commanders to have Chen Ming in their units presented a new challenge.
In the midst of the brigade commander’s dilemma, Chen Ming confidently completed the exam, showcasing the effectiveness of his study approach. The brigade commander grappled with assigning Chen Ming, a hexagonal warrior, considering each company’s unique advantages.
As Chen Ming and other recruits exited the exam room, their joyful expressions hinted at a successful outcome. The second company, in particular, appeared pleased, while other companies displayed varying degrees of concern on their faces.
