She's a Legendary Demon Hunter [Rebirth] - Chapter 25
“You’re a demon hunter?” After the red rooster reverted back to his original form from Mi Wan’s mighty slap, the green rooster immediately jumped back. Putting a safe distance of 3 meters between them, he stared cautiously at Mi Wan.
“Let me go this instant, or I’ll report you to the Demon Hunter Association!” The red rooster raised its scrawny legs and struggled like his life depended on it, but Mi Wan had pinched a bit of flesh just behind the back of his neck, so the more he fought, the more his neck hurt. In the end, he calmed down obediently.
“Report me?” So, demons can complain to the Demon Hunter Association. Mi Wan turned towards the sparrow spirit to confirm, “Are the consequences serious?”
“The chicken tribe is one of the larger clans in the world and they have a decent relationship with the Demon Hunter Association. If they decide to file a complaint, it will be troublesome,” the sparrow spirit responded thoughtfully.
The chicken clan lacked demonic strength, but their hens could lay eggs. So in a situation where the demonic species were facing endangerment, their numbers gave them a survival advantage over other stronger demons.
“Hear that? Now let me go!” The red rooster huffed smugly.
“Well in that case…” Mi Wan squinted her eyes, “it’s better to kill you then…”
Mi Wan’s gesture immediately spooked all four demons into a flurry. It was fortunate that the sparrow spirit was close and with his quick reflexes, he stopped Mi Wan’s raised right hand, otherwise, the red rooster would have been an instant goner.
“You want to save him?” Mi Wan had a questioning look as she gazed at the sparrow spirit.
“… No. Master. Killing demons is illegal.” The sparrow spirit stared anxiously at the spiritual force emitting from Mi Wan’s palm. It made his hair stand and skin crawl.
“I’m only killing a chicken. Why would this concern the police?” Regardless if it was 500 years ago or 500 years later, neither the government nor the police would concern themselves with demons.
“The police won’t, but the Demon Hunter Association would.” The sparrow spirit quickly explained, “The Demon race has an agreement with the Demon Hunter Association whereby neither group would wilfully harm the other. Those who disregard the treaty would be hunted by both groups.”
“It’s that serious?”
“Looks like I have to take extra care in getting rid of the body.” Hearing Mi Wan’s words, the green rooster figured his buddy was likely going to get killed, so he turned to run, fully intending to report the incident to his tribe.
“Running away?” Hearing the sound of movement, Mi Wan grabbed a wooden skewer from her leftover instant fish cake and shot it in the direction of the escaping green rooster. The green rooster was unable to avoid the attack on time. The wooden skewer pierced his back and he fell to the ground, reverting back to his original form.
Seeing Mi Wan’s swift reflexes and her ability to handle two battles at once, the sparrow spirit was beginning to question his reality.
Just where did this Legend come from???
Mi Wan walked over, lifted the green rooster and strolled back with one chicken in each hand, all while complaining, “Amongst all you chicken spirits, I hate roosters the most. You don’t taste good, you don’t lay eggs and you wake people up from their peaceful dreams every darn morning. What use do you have?”
“Master.” At this point, Ji Jingjing struggled to get out of the car. When the sparrow spirit saw this, he quickly helped open the door so that Ji Jingjing could look directly at Mi Wan. Ji Jingjing leaned against the car door and pleaded, “Great Master, I beg for your mercy, please let them go.”
“They were intentionally trying to make things difficult for you, yet you wish to save them?” Mi Wan raised her brows.
“That’s not it. Whether they live or die is none of my business,” Ji Jingjing replied, “But these two members of the chicken tribe are related to our leader. If they were to disappear suddenly, the clan leader would not ignore it. It would open up an investigation involving both the Demon Hunter Association and the other demon clans. Of course, I know a master such as yourself isn’t afraid of the backlash, but is it really worth going through all that trouble for two useless roosters?”
She had just awakened so she wasn’t very knowledgeable of this world’s laws. If what Ji Jingjing said was true, and her killing of two chickens would cause a commotion led by both humans and demons, then it would be more trouble than it’s worth.
Besides, she was quite pleased with the current era of peace forged between the humans and demons, and was reluctant to ruin it.
Mi Wan glanced at the beaten up chicken spirits in her hands, feeling a bit vexed, “But I can’t just let them go. Seems unfair.” As she said that, Mi Wan threw both chickens to the ground and wrung her hands.
The two roosters regained their freedom but they dared not move as they maintained their crouched positions on the floor, too scared to transform.
“Great Master, you can demand money from them. Consider it as compensation for their rudeness.” Given past interactions, the sparrow spirit had seen Mi Wan’s unique attraction to money, so he quietly suggested, “These two have a lot of money.”
Mi Wan’s eyes gleamed, now THIS could be considered compensation. So she squatted down and repeated what was previously said during the bat demon incident, “A million yuan per life and I’ll let you go.” After that, she pulled out her mobile phone and revealed her cute deposit code.
The two large roosters paid up the money to preserve their lives and retreated quickly without a fight, completely devoid of their previous arrogance.
“Master, thank you.” The sparrow spirit offered Mi Wan his gratitude for chasing away the roosters, as well as listening to them and showing mercy towards those two roosters. Ji Jingjing still needed to return to the chicken tribe, and if those two roosters really died, it would affect her negatively.
“Transfer the money.” Mi Wan presented her QR code in front of the sparrow spirit with the intent to settle all payments at once.
“Okay.” The sparrow spirit was able to handle 100,000 yuan from his own account, so he swiftly swiped his payment into Mi Wan’s account.
During the payment transfer, Mi Wan glanced over and realized that the sparrow spirit was ridiculously poor. HIs account only had 120,000 yuan. She could not help but comment, “You are the poorest demon I have ever seen.”
“… Money.. is actually not easy to come by.” The sparrow spirit previously had trouble shapeshifting, so he was seen as unimportant in his clan and naturally was unable to obtain much money. It also delayed his assimilation in society, and with low quality education, he was not able to get a good job. This 120,000 yuan consisted of all his savings from over a decade.
“I find it quite easy. Look at my income from tonight…” 2.1 million yuan plus 100 eggs.
“…” The sparrow spirit felt humiliated, but did not dare complain about it.
