Chapter 2: Every day’s check-in brings progress, bit by bit!
On the second day, the hospital-assigned doctors led a large group of interns on a comprehensive tour of various departments. They visited multiple units, including the emergency department, cardiothoracic surgery, neurosurgery, hepatobiliary surgery, urology surgery, colorectal surgery, orthopedics, burn surgery, respiratory internal medicine, cardiovascular internal medicine, digestive internal medicine, endocrinology, oncology, rheumatology, immunology, and more.
On the third day, the interns were assigned to different departments for their internships. Lin Feng was placed in the emergency department, starting his first day as a doctor. To his delight, the system rewarded him with valuable experiences for each daily check-in.
[Ding… Day 2 check-in, rewarded with “Top-notch Aortic Stent Placement Experience”!]. [Ding… Day 3 check-in, rewarded with “Top-notch Coronary Artery Bypass Grafting Experience”!]. [Ding… Day 4 check-in, rewarded with “Top-notch Extended Pancreaticoduodenectomy Experience”!]. [Ding… Day 5 check-in, rewarded with “Top-notch Intrauterine Gauze Packing Experience”!]. [Ding… Day 6 check-in, rewarded with “Top-notch Tongue Resection Experience”!].Countless experiences poured in, and Lin Feng’s surgical expertise skyrocketed. Each day brought a new skill, and he relished the daily growth, finding it incredibly fulfilling. However, despite his rapid advancement, Lin Feng maintained a low profile as an intern, diligently assisting other doctors. He understood the importance of being diligent and humble in his role.
The emergency department bustled with activity as a continuous stream of patients arrived from all city corners. They ranged from minor ailments like headaches and fevers to serious injuries caused by fights or accidents, resulting in many cases. Lin Feng’s skills and abilities gradually began to shine, making him stand out among the interns. His talent couldn’t be concealed, and the doctors and nurses in the emergency department took notice.
When no other medical professionals were available, Lin Feng took charge, efficiently triaging, diagnosing, and treating patients with utmost precision. Furthermore, Lin Feng was able to ease tension and unrest among female patients. His sunny smile and comforting words had a calming effect, instantly putting their minds at ease, and significantly alleviating the pressure within the emergency department.
“He’s genuinely talented.”
“He could be a valuable asset to our department.”
“Maybe we should consider keeping him here in the emergency department.”
“With his attractive appearance, he can greatly improve doctor-patient relationships.”
“He’s like a morale booster for us!”
Gradually, the thoughts of the emergency doctors and department heads leaned towards Lin Feng, and their gazes became more friendly and approving. Lin Feng began to notice the improved treatment he received in the department. The doctors and nurses smiled at him more frequently, and he was entrusted with more important tasks while menial duties were assigned to other interns by the doctor and nurse supervisors. Meanwhile, the other interns couldn’t help but feel frustrated and envious.
“Wow, what the heck! Is being handsome such a big deal? Why does this world treat us, the less attractive ones, with such malice? When will we, the ‘less conventionally attractive’ ones, have a chance to stand up? It’s frustrating!” They lamented.
Lin Feng maintained his focus and dedication, despite the envious glances from the other interns. He continued diligently checking in daily, eager to acquire new skills and knowledge.
[Ding… 20th-day check-in, rewarded with “Top-notch Coronary Angiography Experience”!]. [Ding… 21st-day check-in, rewarded with “Top-notch Aortic Stent Implantation Experience”!]. [Ding… 22nd-day check-in, rewarded with “Top-notch Tonsillectomy Experience”!]. [Ding… 23rd-day check-in, rewarded with “Top-notch Heterologous Skin Transplantation Experience”!].Each day brought progress, and Lin Feng reveled in the joy of learning and personal growth. He felt great and fulfilled in his journey as a doctor.
On the 30th day, Chief Zhou Guorong, the head of the Emergency Department, approached Lin Feng. Lin Feng sat up straight, his gaze fixed on Chief Zhou Guorong. The chief was known for his exceptional abilities, being both the most skilled cardiac surgeon in Pengcheng and politically astute. His establishment of an operating room within the emergency department had caused annoyance and resentment among the heads of other surgical departments.
Chief Zhou Guorong, a prominent figure in the hospital, wore a kind and friendly smile as he addressed Lin Feng.
“Lin Feng, how has your experience been in the emergency department?” Chief Zhou Guorong inquired.
“It’s been a valuable experience in the emergency department. I’ve learned things that textbooks simply can’t teach,” Lin Feng replied humbly, acknowledging the practical knowledge he had gained.
Chief Zhou Guorong continued the conversation, raising the question in every intern’s mind: the possibility of staying at City First Hospital after the internship.
“As interns, you have a one-year internship period, and many of you hope to continue working here after graduation,” Chief Zhou Guorong stated.
His implication was clear, almost suggesting that if Lin Feng agreed, he would prepare a contract to stay at the hospital.
Lin Feng was shocked for a moment. He hadn’t even had the opportunity to showcase a fraction of his true abilities yet, so why was he being offered such a proposition? Was it solely because of his handsome appearance? Lin Feng couldn’t help but curse his unmistakable good looks inwardly.
However, considering its benefits and opportunities, Lin Feng quickly decided. There was no reason to hesitate.
“Chief, I’m more than willing to stay and contribute to the success of the emergency department,” Lin Feng responded fervently, his voice filled with determination.
Chief Zhou Guorong’s face lit up with a camaraderie-filled smile. “That’s great! Work here with peace of mind, Lin Feng. The emergency department has a promising future,” he declared, expressing his confidence in Lin Feng’s abilities and the potential growth of the department.

God I fucking hate how every doctor novel has to focus on how fucking handsome the protagonist is. Just once I’d like to read about an insanely skilled medical resident whose horrificly ugly. The type of ugly that makes people double take and nearly vomit in their mouths.
Depression
… while I do hate the emphasis, and would like to see a change to a different look, maybe an ordinary look, but I have to disagree with the super-ugly, cause I promise, that by the time he treats his first patient, he’ll be fired and sued, even if he did an amazing job
