Ambushing Cosmog from the Start - Chapter 6
Chapter 6: I Need a Single Dragon
Salamence was a Pokémon known for its fierce temper, but it wasn’t mindlessly aggressive.
Now, severely injured by the sudden appearance of the strange Pokémon, Salamence realized this opponent was far beyond its ability to fight.
Sensing the overwhelming, dominant aura radiating from Necrozma, the wounded Salamence immediately fled.
Since Chen Nian hadn’t ordered a pursuit, Necrozma didn’t attack further.
………
Salamence… ran away just like that?
It actually fled?
Watching the scene unfold, Chen Nian felt a little stunned.
Oh well. It escaped, but it’s not like I had any interest in Salamence anyway.
……….
Holding the little Dratini, Chen Nian walked over to the unconscious Dragonite.
Dragonite was badly injured—if left untreated, it could be in serious danger!
Thinking this, Chen Nian placed his hand on Dragonite’s body.
The Dratini, fearing he might harm its mother, let out a panicked cry.
Turning his head, Chen Nian reassured it,
“I’m healing your mother. Don’t worry, I won’t hurt her.”
Seeming to understand his words, the Dratini calmed down.
………
A soft green glow emanated from Chen Nian’s palms as he activated his healing ability, slowly mending Dragonite’s injuries.
After three full minutes, he finally withdrew his hands.
Soon after, Dragonite’s eyes fluttered open.
Seeing its mother awake, the Dratini let out a joyful cry, and Dragonite affectionately nuzzled its child with its round, plush head.
……..
The little Dratini must have explained how Chen Nian had saved its mother, because Dragonite no longer regarded him with suspicion.
Meanwhile, Jiang Shuying, who had just snapped out of her dazed shock—shakily approached.
“Chen Nian, just what are you—?”
Before she could finish, Dragonite’s gaze locked onto her, its gentle expression hardening into wariness.
Under Dragonite’s sharp stare, Jiang Shuying stumbled back in fear.
Noticing Dragonite’s hostility toward her, Chen Nian turned to the school beauty and asked,
“Explain yourself. Why were you in the forbidden zone?”
“And how exactly did you provoke them?”
………..
Faced with his questioning, Jiang Shuying lowered her head in guilt.
“I’m sorry…”
“This is all my fault…”
“But Dragonite… I… I really didn’t know it was your child!”
“I thought… it was…”
………..
Stammering, she finally managed to recount the whole story.
She had come to the forbidden zone to capture a powerful Pokémon as her starter.
Though she knew the dangers, certain circumstances had forced her to take the risk.
Miraculously, she hadn’t encountered any hostile Pokémon along the way, until she stumbled upon the Dratini near a small stream.
As a diligent student, Jiang Shuying knew Dratini could evolve into the mighty Dragonite. Overjoyed, she thought her luck had finally turned.
She wanted to catch it, but without any Pokémon of her own, she could only try coaxing it with words.
Just as she was about to communicate with Dratini, a group of criminals appeared!
They tried to snatch Dratini, forcing Jiang Shuying to grab the little dragon and flee.
What happened next was exactly what Chen Nian had witnessed earlier.
……….
A weak girl like Jiang Shuying couldn’t outrun trained criminals.
She was quickly caught, and if not for Chen Nian’s sudden appearance, she might have ended up jumping into the Heavenly Lake as a last resort.
As for why Dragonite had been furious?
It had mistaken Jiang Shuying for a kidnapper.
In reality, the little Dratini had wandered downstream from its mother’s habitat out of curiosity.
After Jiang Shuying’s explanation, the misunderstanding was cleared up, and Dragonite no longer held a grudge against her.
……….
Once she finished speaking, Jiang Shuying stood alone in silence, her expression bitter.
Ignoring her for the moment, Chen Nian turned to Dragonite.
“I came to the forbidden zone to find a powerful Pokémon as my partner.”
“I’ve always admired the Dragonite species, but you have a child, I don’t want to separate you.”
“So, if possible, could you take me to your habitat?”
“Your kind must have some single Dragonites, right? I’d like to speak with one. If it’s willing to be my partner, I’ll take it with me. If none of your kin wish to leave, I won’t force them.”
“Does that sound fair?”
Sensing no malice in his words, Dragonite nodded gently.
It tilted its head back slightly, gesturing for Chen Nian to climb onto its back.
Without hesitation, Chen Nian did so.
……….
Seated on Dragonite’s back, Chen Nian noticed Jiang Shuying still standing there like a fool.
“What are you waiting for? Get on.”
“Or do you plan to walk out of here alone?”
A flicker of surprise flashed in Jiang Shuying’s eyes, but it quickly dimmed.
“I… I shouldn’t trouble you any further, Chen Nian…”
“You go ahead to Dragonite’s habitat. I’ll find my own way out… After all… it’s my fault Dratini was in danger…”
Her voice was heavy with guilt, but Chen Nian cut her off.
“Enough nonsense. I said get on, so get on!”
“Walk out of here? Do you really think your luck will hold? If you run into danger again, do you expect a second person to come save you?”
Without waiting for her reply, he grabbed her slender arm and effortlessly pulled her onto Dragonite’s back, seating her in front of him.
