Chapter 20: Taking Control of the Supermarket! Could the Outside World Be Worse Than Imagined?
Jiang Cheng, walking towards the monitoring room, naturally heard the pleading voices behind him, but he didn’t pay them any mind. He trusted that Liu Yuqing could handle the situation on her own.
The monitoring room was a space of about twenty square meters. On the right wall upon entering, there were a dozen monitors displaying surveillance footage, with a control panel beneath them for switching between the various floor cameras. On the left side, there was a sofa and coffee table for employee rest, and in the farthest corner, there were several more monitors showing views of the supermarket’s entrance.
After entering the monitoring room, Jiang Cheng glanced around casually, then took out his phone and approached the control panel.
“Jarvis, how do I establish a connection?”
“Sir, you need a USB cable,” Jarvis replied.
“A USB cable?”
Jiang Cheng raised an eyebrow. “That shouldn’t be hard to find. The staff in the monitoring room should have one.”
As he spoke, he scanned the room and finally found a charger still plugged into a power source in a corner.
“Got it!”
He walked over, unplugged the charger, and detached the USB cable. “Jarvis, this is the correct one, right?”
“Yes, sir,” Jarvis confirmed.
“What do I do next?” Jiang Cheng connected one end of the cable to his phone and asked.
“Plug the other end into the USB port on the control panel.”
Jiang Cheng returned to the control panel, found the USB port, and plugged in the other end of the cable.
Possibly because all the surveillance equipment, including the power system, was connected via wires with no network access, the system could only be operated after connecting with a cable.
Once the control panel and phone were connected via the cable, Jarvis immediately began installing various programs through the connection.
During the process, Jiang Cheng had to input commands into the system using the keyboard.
However, the entire process didn’t take long, only about three or four minutes, before he successfully took control of all the supermarket’s surveillance and power systems.
At this point, he fully understood the situation of the supermarket. It turned out that the supermarket had elevators, but they had been destroyed by Third Brother and his group.
They probably feared that the noise from the elevators would attract zombies, and if the elevator doors opened, it could lead to a horde of zombies rushing in.
Moreover, the elevator doors were indeed unpredictable; if a zombie accidentally pressed the elevator button, it would be disastrous.
Aside from this, Jiang Cheng used the surveillance to check the various floors of the supermarket, confirming that there were no stragglers left inside.
Outside the north gate, the zombies had gradually dispersed after causing a commotion with no results.
Noticing this, Jiang Cheng said, “Jarvis, you can now drive the armored vehicle over and park it at the supermarket entrance.”
Right after speaking, he felt a bit uneasy and added, “By the way, keep the noise to a minimum. Don’t attract too much attention from the zombies.”
This way, the armored vehicle could act as a barrier outside the north gate and provide an immediate escape option in case of any sudden incidents.
“Understood, sir,” Jarvis responded.
In the next moment, the armored vehicle, which Jarvis had hidden in a small alley outside the supermarket, started up again under his control. It quietly left the alley and slowly made its way towards the supermarket.
During the process, it did attract the attention of a few zombies, but they were easily crushed by the armored vehicle.
This earned Jiang Cheng another twenty or so points, bringing his total to over 200 points, including the fifty points he earned earlier by making noise to attract the zombies.
A few minutes later, the armored vehicle, under Jarvis’s control, successfully parked at the north entrance. Although a few zombies continued to pounce on the vehicle, they couldn’t cause any damage.
Retracting his gaze from the surveillance of the north gate, Jiang Cheng noticed that Liu Yuqing was walking towards him, carrying the blood-stained watermelon knife.
Jiang Cheng glanced at her, “All done?”
“Yeah.” Liu Yuqing nodded, “I threw them down.”
After hearing her response, Jiang Cheng looked her up and down and smiled slightly, “To be honest, I’m surprised. I thought you would just beat them up to vent your anger and then leave them to fend for themselves.”
Liu Yuqing pursed her lips, “If they were lucky enough to survive, they would definitely come back to cause us trouble. It’s better to deal with them now. Like you said, the world has changed. If they don’t die, then we will.”
After hearing her words, Jiang Cheng’s lips curved slightly upward, satisfied with how clearly she saw things.
“You’ve got the right mindset. It’s getting late, and after all this work, I’m hungry. Let’s get something to eat!”
As he spoke, he left the monitoring room and headed to a restaurant on the fifth floor.
“Okay!”
Receiving Jiang Cheng’s praise, Liu Yuqing blushed slightly, immediately agreeing and following him.
There was still plenty of food on the fifth floor, as half of this floor was occupied by restaurants.
The restaurant Jiang Cheng took Liu Yuqing into was a barbecue place. After confirming it was safe, Jiang Cheng went into the kitchen and easily found a large amount of ingredients.
After all, the apocalypse broke out in the morning, so a lot of the fresh ingredients prepared for the day hadn’t been used yet.
As for cooking, Jiang Cheng, who had lived alone in his previous life, was naturally skilled.
Moreover, all the ingredients were already prepped, and the kitchen was fully equipped.
Jiang Cheng didn’t worry about wasting food; after all, if they didn’t eat it, it would spoil soon.
So he took out almost all the ingredients he found in the kitchen—some to make dishes, and others for Liu Yuqing to bring to the barbecue table.
After busying themselves for more than half an hour, the two sat down at the barbecue table and started grilling and eating.
Meanwhile, Jiang Cheng also brought out a TV from the staff break room.
“Hm? There’s no signal?”
With a skewer in his mouth and a remote in hand, Jiang Cheng tried to watch the news, but after flipping through more than a dozen channels, all he saw was static.
“No signal?”
Liu Yuqing, sitting beside him, was slightly stunned by this scene.
Logically speaking, there shouldn’t be no signal at all, especially since their phones still had service.
Could this mean that the situation outside was worse than they had imagined?
