Ascending the National Fortune: I Bring Technology from the Future - Chapter 41
Chapter 41: Is IQ Online?
Three days later, Fang Jian felt vibrations emanating from the spatial house. He entered the space house, and Sima Shengjie informed him that all the goods were prepared and stored in a storage space. Fang Jian used a flashlight to inspect them and was content with the outcome. His conclusion satisfied him, and he exchanged the control credentials for the storage space using tea utensils.
Fang Jian held his phone back in his bedroom, feeling a bit hesitant. Should he call Zhang Liang right away, or should he wait a bit longer? After all, he had ordered eight sets of the most valuable super instruments, and acquiring them must have been quite challenging. He could hardly believe it if he claimed to have acquired them in just three to five days! Maybe he should postpone it a bit longer.
Suddenly, the phone in his hand rang, startling Fang Jian. He glanced at it and saw it was a call from his old classmate, Chen Tao.
“Hello, Fang Jian,” Chen Tao’s voice sounded somewhat subdued. “Do you have a moment?”
“Yes, I have time. What’s up?” Fang Jian asked.
“Fang Jian, our CEO suddenly came to see me and said he wanted to invite you to dinner,” Chen Tao hesitated. “If you’re free, could you join us for a meal?”
Fang Jian was puzzled. “Your CEO? Who is your CEO? I don’t even know him. Why would he come looking for me?”
Fang Jian would decline without hesitation if it was an invitation from someone he didn’t know. However, Fang Jian couldn’t be so cold-hearted when it came to his brother. He thought for a moment and smiled, “Sure, give me the address. But I can only make it for lunch.”
“Okay,” Chen Tao immediately provided an address.
The place was not unfamiliar to Fang Jian, as it was a very famous private Chinese restaurant in the city center. Although Fang Jian had never been there, he had heard about it.
At noon, Fang Jian arrived at the restaurant. Indeed, it was a bit difficult to find, but fortunately, Chen Tao was waiting at the entrance and led him inside. The courtyard was tastefully decorated, exuding an air of understated luxury, and the food was expected to be excellent.
“Hey, Chen Tao, what’s the matter with you calling me here?” Fang Jian asked in a hushed tone.
Chen Tao sighed and said, “Who knows what’s going on? The CEO called me today and asked if I knew you. I was tempted to say I didn’t, but would he suddenly ask me if he hadn’t checked properly? So, I told the truth.”
Fang Jian’s eyes flickered slightly. He had already inquired and knew Chen Tao was working in a private company. The income was decent, but it didn’t necessarily mean there was a lot of potential. However, local people in Yongcheng didn’t place much emphasis on that, given their solid background.
As long as they avoid excessive drinking, gambling, or vice, the current generation should be able to support themselves.
Seeing Fang Jian’s silence, Chen Tao whispered, “Hey, old Fang, even though I don’t know why the boss is looking for you if it’s inconvenient for you, don’t agree.”
Fang Jian was shocked and looked up in surprise, “Why? Are you unhappy working here?”
“I’m quite content,” Chen Tao shrugged his shoulders. “But if they make me unhappy, I can only say goodbye to them.”
Fang Jian chuckled and patted his shoulder. That’s the confidence of the locals. My family has a house and a car. I work here to earn a salary and get by. You’re good, I’m good, everyone’s good. But if you make my life difficult, I’ll vote with my feet and leave.
Soon, they arrived at the restaurant. When Fang Jian reached the entrance, his gaze suddenly froze. He saw a familiar face—the burly man who had stopped him at the kindergarten gate. The man’s mouth twitched, and his eyes held a hint of disdain when he saw Fang Jian.
Fang Jian immediately understood that even though today wasn’t a grand feast, it was not an ordinary gathering.
“Haha, so you’re Mr. Fang, truly a talented individual,” said the man. In the restaurant, two people were sitting, one in his fifties with slightly graying hair, and the other around thirty, a gentle-looking man wearing glasses.
The quiet man sat in the first seat, smiling and silently observing Fang Jian.
Chen Tao said, “Fang Jian, this is our company’s General Manager, Mr. Ji.”
Fang Jian stepped forward and greeted, “Hello, Mr. Ji.”
“Very good, please have a seat,” Mr. Ji said.
After Fang Jian and Chen Tao sat down, Mr. Ji said, “Mr. Fang, let me introduce you to an important figure.” He pointed to the gentle-looking man and said, “This is Hu Bin, General Hu.”
Fang Jian thought to himself, “Just as I expected.”
“General Hu is the CEO of Yongcheng Tianhuang Import and Export Company, with an annual turnover exceeding 100 million,” Mr. Ji slowly explained. “In addition, General Hu’s father is Deputy Mayor Hu.”
Fang Jian raised an eyebrow. If he was still unsure of the other party’s intentions before, now he understood everything. However, Fang Jian had serious doubts about this guy’s intelligence…
