Chapter 2. “I Just Didn’t Want to Change Mother-in-Laws”
Amid the flood of comments, Bai Xiyi took a deep breath, her hand trembling slightly as she picked up the crimson marriage certificate with its gold-lettered inscription.
“Let me see who you married this time!”
Gritting her teeth, she flipped it open, and instantly froze, as if struck by lightning.
“Huh? Bai Xiyan? Why does this name feel… off?”
“And the woman in the photo, she looks just like Xiyi!”
“Wait, doesn’t Xiyi’s surname also start with ‘Bai’?”
“Bai Xiyi? Bai Xiyan? Holy sht!”*
“Oh my god, I think I just uncovered something insane!”
The livestream exploded again.
But Bai Xiyi clutched the certificate, her face turning deathly pale.
The woman in the photo, Bai Xiyan, not only resembled her closely…
She was her younger sister.
Her blood-related younger sister.
“I, ”
“Xiyan, ”
“They, they, ”
Her entire body swayed, her eyes wide with shock and fury.
So this was the truth.
She was the clown all along.
She divorced him, and just three months later, her own sister married him!
This,
Bai Xiyi collapsed onto the bed, the marriage certificate crumpling in her grip, her gaze hollow.
“Holy fck! This is next-level savage!”*
“That scumbag! Divorces the older sister and immediately marries the younger one?”
*”Bai Xiyan, confirmed! That’s Xiyi’s sister, 99.9% chance they’re full-blooded siblings!”*
“What the actual hell?! This is insane!”
“Xiyi, hold on! Don’t break down!”
“Damn, this plot twist is wild! More, more! What happens next?!”
The livestream audience was losing it, whipped into a frenzy by this jaw-dropping twist.
On the bed, Bai Xiyi gripped the marriage certificate so tightly her knuckles turned white, her teeth grinding audibly.
She stayed motionless for three full minutes before finally, with a face like storm clouds, pulling out her spare phone and opening her contacts.
Ye Chen.
Little Sister.
Her finger hovered between the two names, unsure whom to call first.
After another two minutes of hesitation, she finally tapped Ye Chen’s number.
“Du… du…”
The dial tone rang several times before the call connected.
“Hello?”
The familiar voice made her blood boil instantly.
“Ye Chen! What the hell is this?!”
On the other end of the line, an exceptionally handsome young man paused.
“What do you mean, ‘what the hell’? Bai Xiyi, we’re divorced. Don’t talk to me like that, I’m not putting up with your temper anymore.”
Bai Xiyi let out a bitter laugh, her grip tightening on the marriage certificate as she stormed into the kitchen and grabbed a cleaver.
“Ye Chen! If you’ve got any balls left, tell me where you are right now!”
Ye Chen scoffed.
“Whether I have ‘balls’ or not, you should know better than anyone. It’s only been three months since the divorce.”
Her rage erupted.
“You dare bring up the divorce?!
“Ye Chen! You absolute bastard!”
“Divorcing me was one thing, but how could you remarry after just three months?!”
“And worst of all, you married my sister! What the fck is wrong with you?!”*
On the other end, Ye Chen glanced at Bai Xiyan, who was tenderly picking out vegetables at the market, then chuckled lightly.
“Oh, so you saw it? Guess you went back to the apartment today.”
“Well, it’s simple, really. Even though we divorced, I still think your mom treats me well.”
“So I didn’t want to change mother-in-laws.”
“And after the divorce, Xiyan was the one comforting me.”
“Compared to your domineering attitude, she fits my ideal of a wife much better.”
“Plus, she’s liked me for a long time, why else would she have gone abroad to study after we got married?”
“When she came back and found out we’d divorced, things just… fell into place.”
“Sorry for not telling you. Guess I’ll have to call you ‘big sister’ from now on.”
“Xiyan’s buying groceries right now. If you don’t mind, you can wait at the apartment.”
“We’ll be back soon, and we’ll cook for you. Stay for dinner.”
His calm, measured voice carried through the phone, each word piercing Bai Xiyi’s heart like a knife.
She couldn’t breathe.
Pain.
Fury.
Regret.
Hatred.
A storm of emotions raged inside her, her fingers turning white around the cleaver’s handle, her entire body trembling.
The livestream chat went ballistic.
“HOLY SHT! This guy’s explanation just broke my brain!”*
“‘Didn’t want to change mother-in-laws’?! I CAN’T, ”
“This is psychological murder! Absolute savagery!”
“The sheer audacity! Xiyi, stay strong!”
“And that ‘big sister’ line at the end?! My soul left my body!”
“How can a scumbag be so shameless?!”
“And the sister, how could she go after her own ex-brother-in-law?!”
“How are these two sisters ever gonna face each other again?!”
“I swear, my bladder’s about to burst, but I can’t look away, this is too wild!”
In that moment, countless viewers were left reeling from Ye Chen’s words.
Bai Xiyi, however, had reached her breaking point.
With a furious scream, she slammed the cleaver into the cutting board.
“YE CHEN! HOW COULD YOU DO THIS TO ME?!”
A pause.
Then, coldly:
“What happens between me and Xiyan is none of your business.”
“If you don’t like it, pretend you never found out. We won’t bother you in the future.”
Bai Xiyi’s lips curled into a sneer.
“Oh, really? She’s my sister! Do you really think we’ll never cross paths again?”
“Put Xiyan on the phone. Now. I have a few words for my dear little sister.”
