Chapter 24: Plucking the Flower
Hu Tianyou was indeed eager to sell the property, not because of some urgent business need, as he’d claimed earlier, but because he saw the Tianyuan Stele as a looming crisis.
Especially since the stele stood so close to his building. If some catastrophic environmental change occurred, he feared losing everything overnight.
But despite listing the property at a low price and even hiring agents, not a single buyer had inquired in two days. It baffled him.
Were all the wealthy just that perceptive?
His anxiety grew by the hour. Now that Wu Yuan had shown up, he felt he had to seize the opportunity.
Even if he couldn’t get the full payment immediately, it was still better than a bank loan. With the current turmoil, banks weren’t handing out large sums anyway.
A deposit was non-negotiable. If things fell through later, at least he’d have that as consolation.
“Three months is a bit long, but not impossible. However, we must include penalty clauses, sign a formal contract with lawyers present, and you’ll need to put down a substantial deposit.”
“No problem,” Wu Yuan smiled.
Hu Tianyou immediately called his usual lawyer.
Wu Yuan hesitated over whether to hire his own when a familiar fragrance drifted into his senses. A beautiful face leaned over his shoulder, whispering in his ear:
“Need a lawyer? I know a good one—licensed, from a major firm in the financial district. Twenty minutes by car.”
Of course, the speaker was Su Ruoqing.
She’d been in the middle of a yoga class when rumors spread about the gym’s owner selling at an astronomical price. The instructor, worried about her job, sneaked out to eavesdrop, dragging half the class, including Su Ruoqing—along out of curiosity.
She never expected the potential buyer to be Wu Yuan, her neighbor she’d just met that morning.
This made no sense.
At breakfast, Wu Yuan hadn’t shown any signs of wealth—his clothes and demeanor were ordinary. How had he transformed into a billionaire by afternoon?
“It’s you!”
Wu Yuan lightly tapped the head hovering near his shoulder.
“I owe this investment to you. I only entered this building because I saw someone who looked like you. Might as well stick with you—call your lawyer friend. Legal fees go to someone either way.”
Su Ruoqing flushed at the casual intimacy of his touch and quickly stepped back.
Logically, they shouldn’t be this familiar—they’d just met. But she had been the one to lean in first. The realization made her cheeks burn.
Su Ruoqing’s lawyer friend, Miao Yu, arrived almost simultaneously with Hu Tianyou’s attorney.
Miao Yu was a tall, elegant woman in her forties—coolly professional in a tailored suit and heels, radiating quiet authority.
After verifying her credentials, she reviewed Hu Tianyou’s property deeds, gym licenses, and financial records for liens or debts.
An hour later, with both lawyers as witnesses, Wu Yuan and Hu Tianyou signed the transfer contract. Wu Yuan immediately wired the 2 million deposit via mobile banking.
Su Ruoqing, unable to refuse, became Wu Yuan’s proxy, overseeing the gym’s finances and personnel.
Before leaving, Hu Tianyou pulled Wu Yuan aside with a knowing smirk.
“Young man, ‘pluck the flower while it blooms.’ You get me?”
He nudged his chin toward Su Ruoqing and clapped Wu Yuan’s shoulder, envy flashing in his eyes.
Wu Yuan’s conscience prickled. Did he have designs on “plucking the flower”?
Of course he did.
Otherwise, why would he hand gym management to Su Ruoqing without even asking if she had a day job?
Across the room, Su Ruoqing bid farewell to Miao Yu, who shot her a look so loaded it needed no words. Flustered, Su Ruoqing whispered something before hurrying away.
“They’re gone. Let’s go too.”
Su Ruoqing walked over, her yoga clothes clinging to every curve—though the gym bag slung over her shoulder blocked the view from certain angles.
When Wu Yuan’s gaze lingered a beat too long, she waved a hand in front of his face.
“Stop staring! I came straight here in yoga clothes because I didn’t have anything else to wear.”
“Let’s head back. I’m sweaty and need a shower.”
Wu Yuan’s eyes lit up. He’d planned to thank her with dinner, but her “better proposal” was an offer he wouldn’t refuse.
Su Ruoqing immediately regretted her phrasing, but it was too late to backtrack.
Night had fallen. Hormonal restlessness didn’t discriminate by gender—women felt it too, even if they hid it better.
“The needs are the same.”
An hour later, in Su Ruoqing’s bedroom, the beauty lay atop Wu Yuan, breathless as she felt a certain part still pulsing inside her.
Wu Yuan’s hands roamed her body, memorizing every soft contour.
He hadn’t expected to end up in bed with her less than a day after meeting. It felt natural, yet charged with something else—maybe the city’s intoxicating blend of repression and desire.
After catching her breath, Su Ruoqing rolled off and toyed with his chest, teasing:
“Still savoring it? If you’re tapped out, just say so. I’ll give you a passing grade.”
Unacceptable.
Wu Yuan flipped her over. If she’d been the rider earlier, now it was his turn.
Later, Su Ruoqing staggered naked toward the bathroom, not bothering to cover up.
But she paused at the door, glancing back.
“You should get dressed. My roommate could be back anytime.”
“Kicking me out already?” Wu Yuan blinked. Were women in Demon City always this… pragmatic?
He’d assumed they’d at least cuddle, maybe share a shower. Instead, he was getting the post-plucking boot.
“Do me this favor?” She clasped her hands in mock prayer.
Resigned, Wu Yuan began gathering his clothes from where they’d been flung—along with the various lingerie pieces Su Ruoqing had modeled during their… extensive testing.
Before leaving, he hesitated.
“Uh… we didn’t use protection. You should—”
“You think I don’t know? Jerk! Get out!”
A towel flew at his head.
Wu Yuan cursed his big mouth and barely dodged, escaping in a far less dignified state than he’d arrived.
