Chapter 26: Take over the inn and start speaking again!
In the midst of a world filled with chaos and constant change, the tranquil city of Lin’an buzzed with activity. Ning Chuan had just completed the designs for a grand building and was about to take a day or two of rest. However, his plans were interrupted by commotion downstairs. From a distance, he could hear a clamor emanating from the lower floors of the inn.
A group of young men in traditional Chinese attire stormed out of the inn, their faces etched with frustration. Inside the inn, Yu Fu, the innkeeper, was visibly flustered as he thanked Nan Yuexi, who had intervened to help resolve the situation. Perplexed by the scene, Ning Chuan approached and inquired about the matter.
Yu Fu explained, “Mr. Ning, you wouldn’t believe it. Those who just left claimed to be from the capital and demanded rooms despite our inn being fully booked. I tried explaining, but they insisted on displacing other guests or else threatened to demolish the inn. Luckily, the young lady in blue stepped in and drove them away. Without her, I don’t know what I would’ve done.”
Expressing his gratitude, Ning Chuan turned to Nan Yuexi, who brushed off the situation as trivial. With matters seemingly settled, Ning Chuan was ready to return to his room and review his blueprints. However, he was halted by Yu Fu, who had more to discuss.
“Wait a moment, Mr. Ning,” Yu Fu called out. “There’s something I’d like to discuss. You see, in the past, our inn mainly served regular folks, and I managed just fine. But now, we have well-to-do patrons and esteemed monks visiting. It’s quite overwhelming for me. I worry about accidentally offending someone important.”
Ning Chuan nodded, realizing the psychological strain the innkeeper was under. Yu Fu continued, “To be honest, I’ve decided to hand over the Seven Blessings Inn to you. I’ve prepared the title deed already.”
Appreciating the gesture, Ning Chuan reached for his money to settle the transaction, but Yu Fu declined. He explained that the inn had earned more in the month under Ning Chuan’s management than it had in the previous decade. Grateful for the opportunity, Yu Fu saw fit to entrust the inn to Ning Chuan’s care, allowing him to make the place his own.
As Yu Fu departed, Ning Chuan was left reflecting on how quickly the inn had come into his possession. With a sigh, he headed back to his room. Time passed swiftly, and in just a matter of days, the inn was thriving under Nan Yuexi’s capable management. She stepped in as the de facto innkeeper and brought order to the establishment, attracting both wealthy patrons and curious onlookers.
Despite the unlikelihood of a saintly figure like Nan Yuexi tending to mundane inn affairs, her dedication did not waver. As days turned into weeks, the Seven Blessings Inn continued to flourish, offering a peaceful sanctuary amid the bustling city.
Soon, guests of various backgrounds arrived at the inn, each with their unique stories. There was a girl with a red umbrella, a mysterious figure donning a black robe with a massive sword, and even two beggar-like girls who seemed to be concealing something. As morning light gave way to a bustling crowd, the inn was soon filled to capacity with the murmur of voices and the promise of countless tales yet to be told.
