Chapter 28: What Are You Standing There For? Let’s Go Home!
The audience was shocked to hear the crocodile was a Chinese alligator. But once they knew it was a Chinese alligator, the comments relaxed.
After all, as a small crocodile unique to China, its combat ability was truly hard to look at. A passing granny could whack a Chinese alligator with a broom. There was only one recorded case of a Chinese alligator injuring someone in the country, and that was because the person had been startled by the sudden appearance of the crocodile and fell off a bridge.
With that kind of fighting power, it was truly the shame of the crocodile world.
The comments buzzed with excitement.
Meanwhile, during the chatter, Lin Tian had approached the Chinese alligator, which was shoving its head into the basket, munching away. The Chinese alligator heard footsteps, cautiously poked its head out of the basket, and saw Lin Tian approaching.
It was startled, frantically swishing its tail, trying to flee.
But Lin Tian grabbed its thick tail and pinned it to the ground.
> “???”
> “Brother Tian, what are you doing?”
> “Holy crap, even though the Chinese alligator’s fighting power is weak, grabbing its tail like that—isn’t that a bit too dismissive of Croc Bro?”
> “Chinese Alligator: Your move is really rude, way too rude!!”
…
The Chinese alligator, its tail grabbed, let out warning growls toward Lin Tian behind it.
Lin Tian had no choice but to grab its tail. This little crocodile was too skittish. If it escaped into the river, finding it again would be tough. He had to remove the fishhook from its mouth before it got away.
“Don’t move. You have my fishhook in your mouth. I’ll help you take it out,” Lin Tian said. Lin Tian spoke softly, signaLin he meant no harm.
At the same time, he reached toward the Chinese alligator, preparing to remove the fishhook lodged in its mouth.
The Chinese alligator instantly grew wary, raising its head and letting out threatening hisses at Lin Tian.
> “Holy crap, is Brother Tian about to take the fishhook out of the crocodile’s mouth by hand?”
> “Can a fishhook be removed by hand?”
> “Brother Tian, don’t do it, it’s too dangerous.”
> “Aren’t you afraid Croc Bro would give you a 360-degree death roll?!”
> “You cannot try that—trying it might mean bye-bye!”
…
The audience jumped in fright seeing Lin Tian about to remove the fishhook by hand. Though they joked about the Chinese alligator’s lack of fighting power, it was still a crocodile. It still had the instinct for a death roll!
If it bit Lin Tian’s hand and pulled off a death roll, his hand would be done for!
Lin Tian knew removing the fishhook by hand was somewhat risky. But leaving the hook in wasn’t an option. So, he could only project goodwill toward the Chinese alligator to calm it down.
“Don’t worry, I mean no harm. I just want to help you. The fishhook in your mouth needs to come out, or it’ll keep hurting you,” Lin Tian said.
Lin Tian pointed at the fishhook in the Chinese alligator’s mouth. The Chinese alligator could also feel a sharp object constantly pricking its mouth, making it hard to eat comfortably.
With Lin Tian’s animal affinity, the Chinese alligator didn’t feel much hostility toward him. Though it still watched warily, it stopped making threatening hisses.
Lin Tian saw a chance, and quickly said, “I’ll take the fishhook out of your mouth now. If you agree, could you blink?”
The Chinese alligator paused for a moment, then blinked. Lin Tian was sure it wasn’t blinking due to dry eyes, because crocodiles were famously patient hunters. They could stare at prey on the water’s surface for over an hour without blinking.
Seeing the Chinese alligator agree, Lin Tian approached it. He wasn’t suddenly bold. He knew his animal affinity could significantly reduce an animal’s urge to attack. But to the livestream audience, it didn’t look that way. They only saw Lin Tian ask a question, then boldly walk toward the Chinese alligator.
He even used both hands to pry open the Chinese alligator’s mouth, reached into its sharp teeth, and fumbled around inside.
Since he couldn’t find the fishhook’s position at first, he leaned in, peering into the Chinese alligator’s mouth to locate it. This thrilLin scene left the livestream audience on edge.
> “Good grief, damn it, I can’t even watch.”
> “I am scared the crocodile will chomp down!”
> “Whoa, Brother Tian’s guts are unreal!”
> “Even if the Chinese alligator’s attack power is low, it’s still a crocodile. One bite from those sharp teeth will hurt like hell.”
> “Brother Tian is truly brave—brave like an explorer!”
…
In the livestream, the audience was even more nervous than Lin Tian.
But in reality, Lin Tian was quite relaxed. He knew the Chinese alligator wouldn’t easily attack him, so he removed the fishhook with ease. The fishhook had lodged into the flesh and caught on bone.
But it had already bent out of shape.
Catching a crocodile with just a fishhook was pretty lucky. Lin Tian took some effort to remove the fishhook. Once the hook was out, the Chinese alligator instantly felt much more comfortable, like the relief of removing a fishbone stuck in your throat.
This made it feel even friendlier toward Lin Tian. Knowing Lin Tian wouldn’t harm it, it stayed by Lin Tian’s feet and didn’t leave.
Lin Tian, looking at the bleeding wound in the Chinese alligator’s mouth, felt a bit guilty. This was his fault, after all. He had to make it up to the Chinese alligator somehow.
With that in mind, he turned and took out the remaining spiritual water-infused fruits from his basket, placing them in front of the Chinese alligator.
“Sorry for hurting you. These fruits are for you to eat,” he said.
Roar roar.
The Chinese alligator’s eyes lit up at the sight of the spiritual water fruits and started chomping away. While the Chinese alligator was eating, Lin Tian packed up his basket, preparing to leave.
After the Chinese alligator incident, fishing was out of the question. He had to get back early and report the discovery of the Chinese alligator to the bureau. It was, after all, a first-class protected animal. The bureau needed to handle it.
“Little crocodile, I am heading home. I’ll come see you next time,” Lin Tian said.
After packing his basket, Lin Tian waved at the Chinese alligator and turned to leave. But after a few steps, he heard rustLin footsteps behind him.
Lin Tian turned around in surprise, only to see the Chinese alligator waddLin after him with its short, thick tail.
When he stopped, the Chinese alligator raised its head, looking at him with confusion.
“Roar roar.”
(Why’d you stop? Let’s go home.)
