Chapter 1: From an Immortal World to Becoming a Three-Legged Golden Crow in the High-Config Primordial Chaos
“Three years… Is the Gate to the Primordial Chaos finally about to open?” Xia Tian slowly opened his eyes, sensing a subtle tremor within his mind. A grand, chaotic-coloured portal shimmered with ancient majesty, sending ripples of information into his consciousness.
[Primordial Chaos (洪荒, Hóng Huāng): A concept in Chinese mythology referring to the time before the world’s creation, often depicted as a boundless, chaotic void.]
His heart surged with excitement.
Three years ago, Xia Tian entered this world by relying on the Gate of Chaos—his ‘golden finger,’ or cheat ability. Upon his arrival, the chaotic portal fell silent, only indicating that it was charging and replenishing its energy.
[Xià Tiān (夏天): Can be translated as “Summer Sky” or “Heavenly Summer.” The name evokes imagery of warmth, brightness, and an expansive, uplifting feeling.]
Once fully charged, it would allow him to travel to the legendary world of Primordial Chaos—a world he had only read about in novels during his previous life.
It was the world of Pangu splitting the heavens, the calamities of dragons, phoenixes, and qilins, the conflict between Dao and demons, the catastrophic struggles of witches and demons, and the apocalyptic War of the Gods.
[Pangu (盘古, Pán Gǔ): The creator deity in Chinese mythology who split the heavens from the earth.]
This wasn’t just any version of the Primordial Chaos—it was a high-configuration version.
“Unfortunately, I can only travel with my soul, not my physical body. Otherwise, even with minimal cultivation in that world, I might have already attained immortality,” Xia Tian murmured with a hint of regret.
The Gate of Chaos could only transport his soul, leaving his body behind. Furthermore, his time in the Primordial Chaos was limited; indefinite residence there was impossible. If it were, he might have considered abandoning his current body entirely to reside there permanently.
The environment of the Primordial Chaos far surpassed that of the Nine Provinces. Though this world was vast and brimming with a flourishing cultivation civilisation, it paled in comparison to the Primordial Chaos, which could be considered the origin of all immortal worlds.
“Still, even if it’s just my soul entering, it should rapidly evolve in the Primordial Chaos. If my soul grows stronger, achieving the status of a god or demon, my return would undoubtedly elevate this body to unimaginable heights. I could quickly become powerful, securing my safety in these turbulent times.”
Calculating the possibilities, Xia Tian exhaled softly, finally able to put some of his worries to rest.
This body of his wasn’t ordinary. He was the third prince of the Great Xia Dynasty, which had ruled for over three millennia. However, the dynasty was now at its end, plagued by internal strife and external threats.
To make matters worse, the reigning emperor—Xia Tian’s nominal father—was a tyrant obsessed with immortality. As his lifespan neared its end, his attempts to defy mortality grew more desperate, wreaking havoc across the realm.
The Nine Provinces were a land of flourishing cultivation, home to legendary sanctuaries such as the Thirty-Six Heavenly Caves and Seventy-Two Blessed Lands, where true gods and demons resided. Yet, the imperial dragon aura that shielded the emperor rendered him immune to most techniques and spiritual powers, creating an ironic barrier against his immortality pursuits.
This paradox meant that no official of the Great Xia court could pursue the path of longevity while serving under its dragon aura. The emperor, unwilling to accept his fate, conducted cruel experiments in his quest for eternal life, pushing the dynasty closer to collapse.
Rebellions multiplied, fuelled by the support of the sanctuaries. Without the suppression of the court’s unparalleled martial masters, the dynasty might already have fallen.
As the third prince, Xia Tian faced a dire fate if the dynasty were to fall. Even if it survived, the inevitable power struggle following the emperor’s death would endanger him. Without strength, his life would be forfeit.
But now, with the Gate of Chaos fully charged, Xia Tian saw a glimmer of hope. By entering the Primordial Chaos, even if only in spirit, he could attain the strength he needed to secure his future.
Resolute, he pressed his palm against a concealed panel on the wall.
Buzz!
The ground trembled as a hidden passage opened, revealing a narrow tunnel. Xia Tian entered a secret chamber he had long prepared—a haven to protect his body while his soul ventured into the Primordial Chaos.
In the chamber, he sat cross-legged, allowing his soul to enter the gate. Instantly, his body emitted a faint chaotic glow, enveloping him entirely.
This protective radiance ensured that his body, though comatose, remained unaffected by hunger, thirst, or external forces. It even diminished his physical presence to an imperceptible level, making it seem as though his body existed outside time itself.
“Three-Legged Golden Crow? Have I become Emperor Jun or Taiyi?” Xia Tian’s exclamation of joy echoed as his soul took form within the Primordial Chaos.
[Three-Legged Golden Crow (三足金乌, Sān Zú Jīn Wū): A mythical bird in Chinese folklore, often associated with the sun. It is said to reside in the sun and symbolises immense power and divinity. Emperor Jun (帝俊, Dì Jùn) and Taiyi (太一, Tài Yī) are primordial deities in Chinese mythology linked to the golden crow.]
