I Am the Fated Villain - Chapter 173
Chapter 173: Yue Mingkong reflects on herself, asking why he is so kind to her.
The Baiheng Mountains are sprawled with ancient trees and vines of various kinds, all of immense age. The peaks stretched endlessly, their aura akin to a surging tide, presenting a vibrant sight. Deep within the concealed ruins, before an ancient stone gate, sat a figure of striking beauty and nobility, cross-legged.
Immortal rain cascaded down, casting a faint radiance through the stone gate. Adorned in a flowing robe of plain white jade embroidered with patterns reminiscent of the ancient sea of stars, she seemed immortal, as if from another realm. Her demeanour exuded a profound tranquillity.
Thousands of azure strands fluttered around her, her countenance akin to a goddess’s. The immortal runes within her jade-like eyes shimmered intermittently. She was Yue Mingkong, immersed in cultivation within these ruins for nearly a month.
Despite her considerable abilities, opening the portal before her remained daunting. Reluctant to seek assistance from Gu Changge, fearing ulterior motives, Yue Mingkong persevered in her solitary cultivation. Moreover, she hoped her endeavours might lead to discovering a mysterious immortal scripture within the portal.
This immortal scripture may hold the key to attaining true immortality.
She murmured as a diffuse rain of light, imbued with immortal intent, emanated from the crevice of the immortal gate. This heavenly rain, carrying immortal runes, was gradually assimilated into her being, refining her essence.
Her bones became imbued with immortality, her bearing divine, yet there remained a trace of otherworldly detachment. However, a sudden disturbance caught her attention, prompting her to rise from her meditation. Instantly, she reverted to her former demeanour—a regal emperor, resolute and composed, commanding yet detached.
“Someone has triggered the prohibition formation I laid here…” she declared, her voice carrying authority. She transformed into a divine light, ascending into the heavens. Simultaneously, her hidden subordinates and followers emerged, ready to heed her command.
During this period, she wielded great power, controlling the fates of many, even subjugating immortal beings to her will. With a covert method of control gleaned from extensive research, she targeted Gu Changge’s Immortal Devouring Demonic Art, acquiring a God-control technique from ancient texts.
Most of those around her were now her trusted confidants, subject to her whims with a mere thought, yet she harboured no fear of betrayal.
“Every inch of the void within three thousand miles of the Baiheng Mountains has been meticulously arranged by me…” she declared, her demeanour impassive as she sensed the approach of powerful auras.
Perched atop the mountain peak, her gaze remained indifferent, though ominous energy flickered in her palm as she scanned the direction of the recent disturbance. A faint unease gnawed at her heart, her foremost concern still being Gu Changge.
It baffled her how Gu Changge, seemingly omnipotent, had obtained knowledge of the imminent birth of the immortal spirits. She pondered the depths of his capabilities, feeling dwarfed by his schemes. She couldn’t fathom how Gu Changge orchestrated the downfall of the ancient immortal clans, including manipulating Ye Ling’s demise.
With Gu Changge’s arrival imminent, she fretted over how to justify her actions. Would he doubt her again, especially regarding the immortal spirits? The fragile rapport they had painstakingly built might plummet to icy depths again.
A flurry of thoughts raced through Yue Mingkong’s mind at that moment.
Rumble!
Suddenly, a rumble echoed across the distant sky as numerous divine lights converged in her direction. Leading the group was a young man adorned in feathered garments with billowing sleeves, his features exuding an otherworldly charm akin to a youthful immortal traversing the mortal realm. It was none other than Gu Changge, the last person she expected to see.
He truly came!
The indifference on Yue Mingkong’s face froze, her worst fears materialising before her eyes. Gu Changge arrived and brought along an entourage, including Yin Mei, the fox—a sight that filled Yue Mingkong with deep unease.
In her eyes, once cold as an ancient iceberg, an even more frigid aura emanated, though not directed at Gu Changge, but at Yin Mei, resplendent in her red attire with nine fox tails swaying gracefully.
“Emperor!”
“This…”
Yue Mingkong’s followers and attendants exchanged embarrassed glances, realising the gravity of the situation. After all, the unexpected visitor was Gu Changge, with whom Yue Mingkong shared an unresolved romantic entanglement.
“Bar his path,” Yue Mingkong commanded icily, a radiant aura materialising beside her as a silver moon imprint emerged in the sky, exerting formidable pressure. Initially contemplating how to confront Gu Changge, she needed more preparation.
Yin Mei’s conspicuous presence alongside Gu Changge only exacerbated Yue Mingkong’s distress, signalling a deeper connection between them. The order left her followers feeling somewhat helpless, caught during an unforeseen confrontation.
However, they dared not defy Yue Mingkong’s command. Hastening toward Gu Changge, who approached the area, they prepared to intercept him.
“Oh? Mingkong is here as well? What a coincidence,” remarked Gu Changge, his expression betraying a hint of surprise as if just noticing Yue Mingkong’s presence.
With a gesture, Gu Changge halted his entourage.
“Young Master Changge, this directive comes from the Emperor, but we…” Yue Mingkong’s followers spoke stiffly, apprehensive about confronting Gu Changge, knowing well his formidable prowess and status among the younger generation.
They found themselves entangled in a private matter between the two, making their predicament all the more delicate.
“It’s all right. I seem to have irked Mingkong once again,” Gu Changge remarked nonchalantly, understanding the situation implicitly.
Yue Mingkong regarded Gu Changge with cold eyes, refraining from responding to his words. Did he genuinely grasp the reason for her ire? Gu Changge, wearing a faint smile, queried, “Mingkong, what’s the matter? Isn’t it a joyous occasion to see your betrothed?”
Yue Mingkong’s gaze shifted to Yin Mei, her suspicion-laden inquiry. “And why are you here?”
Seeing Yue Mingkong’s hostility and murderous intent, Yin Mei sneered inwardly.
Having heard of this imperious future empress, Yin Mei couldn’t help but acknowledge her remarkable power. While ordinary cultivators might instinctively defer to her, Yin Mei remained unfazed. Sensing Yue Mingkong’s animosity from their initial encounter, she couldn’t help but wonder at the future empress’s immediate hostility toward her.
It appeared that Yue Mingkong was already privy to the intricate dynamics between herself, Gu Changge, and the Immortal Devouring Demonic Art he carried.
The complexity of their relationship left Yin Mei feeling a twinge of envy. She couldn’t fathom treating Gu Changge with such open hostility as Yue Mingkong did. Gu Changge’s uncharacteristic display of emotion sparked a sense of uncertainty within her, questioning her previous perceptions of him.
Nevertheless, Yin Mei harboured doubts about whether Yue Mingkong’s behaviour was genuine or a calculated manoeuvre by Gu Changge. Regardless, she remained convinced Gu Changge wouldn’t allow Yue Mingkong to harm her.
“I’m curious, why are you here? It seems you’ve been here for a while…”
Gu Changge’s inquiry carried a hint of intrigue as his eyes narrowed, betraying a sudden interest in the matter.
Sensing his genuine curiosity, Yue Mingkong sighed inwardly, realising that Gu Changge likely knew about the imminent birth of the immortal spirit. His surprise at her presence indicated that he found her appearance unexpected. Given Gu Changge’s discerning nature, Yue Mingkong understood that her actions would undoubtedly raise suspicion.
“My purpose aligns with yours,” Yue Mingkong responded briefly and coldly, cutting to the heart of Gu Changge’s intentions.
“Is that so?”
Gu Changge’s response was nonchalant, seemingly unfazed by Yue Mingkong’s revelation. He didn’t question her words, accepting them at face value.
Gu Changge traversed the void with a swift stride, appearing before Yue Mingkong instantly, catching her off guard.
“Gu Changge, you?”
Yue Mingkong’s voice betrayed a hint of surprise, though she doubted Gu Changge would harm her over this matter.
Her luminous eyes met his, calm yet captivating, as she awaited his explanation.
“Some time ago, your husband sustained an injury, yet you never came to visit me, leaving me somewhat disheartened.”
Gu Changge remarked, his expression tinged with regret as he naturally reached out to touch her, his tone imbued with softness.
The followers discreetly retreated, granting the pair privacy, while Yin Mei, envious of their intimacy, withdrew to a secluded spot.
Yue Mingkong, momentarily stunned by Gu Changge’s unexpected gesture, struggled to process the situation. However, she soon recalled his similar displays of affection in front of their families.
Refocusing, Yue Mingkong composed herself. This was Gu Changge’s usual tactic, one she shouldn’t allow herself to be unsettled by.
“With your strength, it’s hard to believe you were injured, and while you may deceive others, you cannot deceive me,” Yue Mingkong retorted, her words sincere.
Gu Changge shook his head, a dreamy sigh escaping him. “It should bring me joy to hear such praise from you, yet I cannot feel happiness.”
Yue Mingkong remained steadfast, unmoved by his attempts at manipulation. “Would it bring you happiness if I spoke against my conscience?” she countered, her heart tinged with bitterness.
As she grappled with her emotions, Yue Mingkong couldn’t help but wonder when Gu Changge became entangled with Yin Mei.
She was unaware of this, leaving her uncertain about broaching the subject with Gu Changge.
“Why wouldn’t I be happy? After all, you’re my lucky star.”
Gu Changge remarked with a meaningful smile, leaving Yue Mingkong to regard him with scepticism.
Yet, despite his seemingly affectionate words, she couldn’t shake the feeling that his smile harboured a hint of malice.
“You killed Ye Ling, didn’t he?”
She inquired abruptly, her cold eyes locking onto Gu Changge.
Gu Changge offered no denial, his gaze drifting toward the hidden ruins below.
“I disposed of him for you. That should count for something, shouldn’t it?” he replied, his tone calm.
Yue Mingkong bristle with anger at his shameless assertion. He had not only robbed Ye Ling’s inheritance but now expected her gratitude for his actions.
“You can’t simply claim credit for helping me when you’re the one who seized Ye Ling’s inheritance,” she retorted, her frustration palpable.
Gu Changge shrugged casually, placing a hat atop her head.
“Well, if it weren’t for you, I wouldn’t have had the opportunity to confront Ye Ling. So, in a way, you’re partially to blame,” he remarked flippantly.
Yue Mingkong’s typically composed demeanour cracked, her teeth grinding with irritation. If Gu Changge hadn’t outmatched her, she might have lashed out at him in frustration.
“Enough with the teasing,” Gu Changge interjected, his tone lightening.
“But fear not, my dear, I haven’t forgotten your share. Here’s Ye Ling’s portion of the Reincarnated Heaven Lord’s inheritance,” he continued, conjuring a Dao futon woven from black and white rattan, emanating a profound Dao essence.
Reincarnation runes adorned the futon, exuding an elusive allure that hinted at enlightenment. Though useless to Gu Changge, it held potential significance for Yue Mingkong, a fitting gift for her endeavours.
She should indeed accept it. Considering how he had tormented her for so long, it was only fair that he offered her some compensation, primarily since he had bestowed ten divine weapons upon Gu Xian’er.
“The Dao-building expert’s futon?” Yue Mingkong recognized immediately, her eyes shimmering with bewilderment. Even beings from the sacred realm coveted such a treasure, especially one infused with the aura of reincarnation, making it exceedingly rare.
Was Gu Changge genuinely willing to give it to her? Yet, she couldn’t shake the feeling of scepticism. However, recalling his previous acts of kindness—such as providing her with a drop of five-coloured true dragon blood and taking the blame for her—she began to question her perceptions of him. Perhaps Gu Changge wasn’t as callous towards her as she had believed.
“Gu Changge, why the sudden kindness?”
Yue Mingkong’s voice quivered slightly, noticeably softer than before, as she peered into his eyes, seeking answers.
Ding, Yue Mingkong, the fortunate daughter, reflects on the change in her attitude, gaining 2,000 luck points and 10,000 destiny points.
At that moment, a system prompt echoed in Gu Changge’s mind.
