I Am the Fated Villain - Chapter 253
Chapter 253: The vengeful witch in red, the hatred that couldn’t be resolved even by the deepest hell
After Ye Langtian and Ye Liuli finished their conversation with Gu Changge, they bid farewell. Their purpose had solely been to inform Gu Changge about the inheritor of the demonic art, which left them uneasy even after speaking with him.
Despite Gu Changge’s considerable strength, there was no guarantee that he possessed a solution to handle the two inheritors of demonic arts. In recent times, they had been tumultuous indeed.
The Battlefield of Heavenly Extinction had drawn numerous cultivators, resulting in a chaotic mix of characters. Among them, Prince Ying Shuang was the prime suspect, and now there seemed to be yet another inheritor of demonic art in the mix.
Entering the Heavenly Extinction Battlefield meant not only contending with its native creatures but also the lurking threat of these hidden demonic art inheritors. It was an unfortunate turn of events.
“Brother Ye, take care,” Gu Changge said with a nod as he watched the two depart, a peculiar expression flickering in his eyes.
He was determined to uncover the identity of the sudden inheritor of demonic art, though he harboured suspicions; confirmation would only come when he saw them in person. With that in mind, he penned a letter detailing certain matters to Yan Ji, asking her to verify them.
Though the entrance to the Battlefield of Heavenly Extinction remains uncertain, we can narrow down the location of Absolute Heavenly Extinction.
And I must procure a pathfinding tool.
Gu Changge muttered, lost in thought.
He was determined to conquer the Absolute Heavenly Extinction. Even if his demonic art were exposed in the future, he believed holding dominion over it would instill fear in the entire upper realm.
Moreover, there was currently no risk of his demonic art being uncovered. Seizing control of the Absolute Heavenly Extinction was a precautionary measure that could serve as his potent trump card.
In his thoughts, Gu Changge soon focused on one person: Wang Zijin, his fellow transmigrator. According to Wang Wushuang, Wang Ziji had indeed arrived in Southern Heaven at one point, though she had since disappeared. However, Gu Changge knew a method to summon her.
Wang Ziji, with her immortal body and extraordinary luck, possessed remarkable fortune. Such luck ensured she would always be in favorable circumstances, evidenced by her cultivation far surpassing her peers.
Gu Changge believed that she had encountered numerous opportunities.
His current pondering revolved around how to enlist Wang Ziji as his pathfinding tool. As a fellow transmigrator, Wang Ziji embodied both a ghostly presence and retained the carefree demeanor from her previous life. She enjoyed the banter and revelled in the excitement in her idle moments.
Gu Changge had firsthand experience with her personality from their previous interactions. While others might not grasp the substance of Wang Ziji’s conversations, he understood her character well. It was this familiarity that led him to consider her as a potential ally in his plans.
Plotting against Wang Ziji didn’t seem too challenging, especially since she appeared to have a keen interest in him.
“Come here, deliver a message to Wang Wushuang. Let me know as soon as he discovers his sister’s whereabouts,” Gu Changge instructed Ye Han.
“Yes, Master,” Ye Han responded before leaving promptly.
Not long after, Gu Changge received a notification from the system:
“Ying Shuang’s luck has been damaged.”
This development fell within his expectations. While the impact wasn’t significant, Gu Changge still harbored disdain for any decline in Ying Shuang’s luck points. Nonetheless, it indicated that his plan was progressing as intended.
“System, could the image I saw in Tao Village a few days ago be a premonition of the next Son of Luck?” Gu Changge inquired, recalling an important detail.
The image depicted a woman with blue hair sitting beneath a dead peach tree, desolate and awaiting something. Gu Changge sensed a connection between this image and Taoyao, but he wasn’t entirely certain. However, the fact that he had been allowed to see it suggested its relevance to him.
Yet, Gu Changge remained uncertain, acknowledging that he couldn’t predict what memories might resurface unexpectedly. Just like the sudden recollection of the Immortal Devouring Demonic Art, some mysteries from his past life remained elusive.
The system responded unexpectedly straightforwardly: “This matter falls outside the system’s deduction capabilities. Please ask the host to inquire about something else for the time being.”
Gu Changge hadn’t anticipated such a blunt response, but it left him grappling with the enigmatic nature of the situation.
To be “out of the scope of the deduction for the time being” meant that the deduction couldn’t be performed immediately but might become feasible later on. It implied that the system’s current capabilities couldn’t provide an answer.
Gu Changge found the system’s reliability lacking, particularly during critical moments. He sought clarification: “What about the memory that surfaced when I accepted Yaoyao as a disciple in the Heavenly Star Realm? Was that related to the next Daughter of Luck?”
Each time he encountered such situations, Gu Changge noticed a pattern: the system would first hint at the Son of Luck, then provide guidance. Alternatively, the system’s quests were triggered when he neared the Child of Luck. Thus, Gu Changge decided to probe directly.
The sensation of familiarity and unfamiliarity from that moment remained vivid in his memory. When he questioned the system about it, the response came swiftly:
“Ding, you’ve triggered the red-clothed witch, the Daughter of Luck. She perished due to the passage of time, her body sinking into the endless abyss. Yet, her undying hatred for you persists, transcending even the most terrifying realms. Her consciousness has emerged from the darkness, poised to unleash her vengeful fury upon the world at any moment.”
…
Upon hearing the system prompt, Gu Changge couldn’t help but raise his eyebrows.
What kind of Child of Luck was this? How did it differ from the usual pattern he was accustomed to?
And just how deep was her hatred for him to return from the depths of darkness solely for revenge?
Could it be rooted in love and hate?
Reflecting on Yue Mingkong’s month-long vendetta against him, Gu Changge felt that was more than enough. Now, faced with another red-clothed witch seeking vengeance, every Child of Luck symbolised the divine hate directed toward him.
“System, what’s the significance of this reminder?” Gu Changge inquired again, aware that each newly emerged Child of Luck brought forth a new reminder akin to ripe leeks awaiting harvest.
Buzz!
A buzzing sound filled the air as Gu Changge spoke. In the next moment, a burst of brilliance flashed before his eyes, accompanied by a series of images that seemed to revive profound memories within his mind.
A little girl adorned in red stood at the mountain’s base, her sleeves tugged timidly. Before him, she knelt before a group of bandits, her presence instilling fear and desperation in their eyes.
“These are your enemies. They killed your relatives, and they set your village on fire,” he explained softly, touching the girl’s head.
“Now that I’ve caught them all, you can do whatever you want with them. Whether you choose to kill them or let them go, it’s up to you.”
With one swift stroke of her sword, the little girl severed their heads.
“Master, when I grow up, I want to marry you,” she declared.
He smiled gently.
“We’ll talk about it when you grow up.”
Twenty years later, the grown-up girl returned to him, her face contorted with pain.
“Master, you arranged for the bandits back then, didn’t you?”
His expression remained unchanged.
“Yes, you know all this?”
Despite being stabbed with a sword, she didn’t falter. Tears streamed down her face.
“I can’t let go, Master. Can you tell me the reason?”
His expression remained stoic.
“No.”
And with that, the scene came to an end.
Gu Changge fell into a contemplative silence, grappling with the bitter drama that unfolded before him once more. It was another bitter chapter in his life, leaving only one bloody truth to acknowledge.
Why did such bitter tales seem to follow him relentlessly? Now, he didn’t even know who the red-clothed witch was. All he knew was that she had once been his apprentice, and now she harbored a deep hatred towards him. And now, seemingly out of nowhere, another apprentice emerged seeking vengeance.
In terms of power, they couldn’t compare to the reincarnations of Ye Ling, Long Teng, and the Human Ancestor. Yet, combined with his memories from his time in the lower realm, he remembered a figure in red, wielding a demonic halberd, whom he had cast down into the abyss. Gu Changge couldn’t shake the feeling that this figure might be connected to his former title of demon lord. However, it seemed she had beaten him to the punch.
Despite the looming debts of vengeance, Gu Changge wasn’t overly concerned. With no shortage of adversaries, he felt no urgency in addressing this latest threat.
Given the current clues, I shouldn’t soon encounter the red-clothed witch.
Gu Changge mused, deciding to set the matter aside.
…
In a grand and towering palace, runes flickered as a young man adorned in resplendent robes immersed himself in cultivation—it was Ying Shuang.
Sitting cross-legged with closed eyes, wisps of heaven and earth aura coalesced around him with each breath. A faint shadow of the immortal road, exuding unparalleled divine might, stood proudly above the nine heavens, casting an aura of majesty.
I’ve almost mastered all the powers Ying Shuang possessed. Even if others have suspicions, they won’t be able to discern that I’m an impostor.
Ying Shuang murmured, feeling a wave of relief washing over him.
Opening his eyes, he exuded an indescribable calm and dignified presence. Throughout this period, he had seamlessly assumed the role of Prince Ying, adopting his demeanor and tone with such precision that even his sister, Ying Yu, had little reason to doubt his claims of recovering his memories and addressing his cultivation shortcomings.
For the few who noticed discrepancies in Ying Shuang’s behavior, their concerns were easily dismissed. After all, he remained confined within the Emperor’s Palace, refraining from venturing outside recklessly.
As for the external speculations regarding him being the inheritor of demonic art, Ying Shuang remained unfazed. Such suspicions lacked concrete evidence and were merely conjectures. Moreover, he doubted anyone in Southern Heaven possessed the audacity to act against him without proof of his involvement in forbidden arts.
As far as Ying Shuang was concerned, these suspicions were more than baseless accusations. After all, no one had witnessed him employing forbidden techniques to harm others—it was all mere speculation.
Previously, as long as there wasn’t sufficient evidence to prove him as the inheritor of demonic art, Ying Shuang remained unconcerned. He understood that in Southern Heaven, cultivators and other beings were primarily focused on gaining entry to the True Immortal Academy and locating the Heavenly Extinction Battlefield. They wouldn’t waste their time scrutinizing him.
His attention was drawn to them in this realm teeming with ancient beings. However, thoughts of Gu Changge clouded Ying Shuang’s mind, stirring jealousy within him. He wondered if Gu Changge had detected any abnormalities in the possessed servant, who used to be Ying Shuang himself.
If so, Gu Changge might have acquired leverage over him, a thought that left Ying Shuang uneasy—dealing with someone as formidable as Gu Changge seemed daunting with his current resources.
“Ying Yu has been gone for quite some time, supposedly searching for news. Why hasn’t she returned yet? Could something have happened?” Ying Shuang pondered, suddenly worried about his sister.
Despite her somewhat sceptical nature, Ying Yu’s straightforward character did not diminish Ying Shuang’s affection for her. He now regarded her as his sister wholeheartedly. Previously, he had been a lowly, stable hand, devoid of kinship and purpose, save for the kindness shown by Miss Yin Mei. Yet now, he had found a true family member in Ying Yu.
So naturally, Ying Shuang cherished Ying Yu. With that in mind, he rose from his seat and strode out of the hall, intending to inquire about her whereabouts.
However, as soon as Ying Shuang stepped outside, he encountered Agu and the others returning from outside the mansion. Ying Yu, completely drunk, was supported by two maids and escorted back.
“Greetings, young master,” they greeted hastily upon seeing Ying Shuang’s presence, their expressions shifting nervously.
Despite his typically reserved demeanor, Ying Shuang’s formidable power commanded respect among all in Heavenly Emperor Mountain.
“What happened? How did Xiaoyu end up like this?”
Ying Shuang inquired, observing Ying Yu with a furrowed brow. Even from a distance, the spicy scent of alcohol wafted toward him. It was perplexing to see Ying Yu, who rarely imbibed, in such a state of intoxication.
“Report to Young Master, here’s what happened. Miss Yu encountered Young Master Changge in a pavilion shortly after she went out, and something occurred between them. Young Master Changge then extended an invitation, which Miss Yu found difficult to refuse…” a maid explained, her expression shifting slightly as she detailed the sequence of events, fearing Ying Shuang’s potential reproach.
Ying Shuang’s expression morphed, a mix of shock and fear flickering in his eyes before settling into darkness. He hadn’t anticipated that Ying Yu would encounter Gu Changge shortly after venturing out, only to be coerced into accompanying him to a banquet. It explained why Ying Yu, who rarely drank, found herself in such a drunken state.
“Gu Changge… You’ve gone too far!”
Ying Shuang’s expression contorted with anger and frustration, his fists clenched tightly in indignation.
Silence enveloped the room, the others recoiling into further stillness in the wake of Ying Shuang’s wrath.
However, Agu, an ancient freak who shared the same era as Ying Shuang, wasn’t as intimidated by him as others were. He took the initiative to speak up, his expression shifting slightly as he addressed Ying Shuang.
“Young Master, the situation was quite extraordinary at that time. The young lady’s words and actions inadvertently incited public anger. Thanks to Young Master Changge’s intervention, he managed to disperse the crowd and ensure our safe return.”
Agu explained, glancing at Ying Shuang’s increasingly displeased countenance while inwardly shaking his head.
He couldn’t fathom what had happened to Ying Shuang during this period but noticed a stark departure from the confident and assertive demeanor the prince had once possessed.
Such incidents infuriated him, leaving him utterly embarrassed like a mouse scurrying across the street. As a prince, his patience had worn thin. Instead of confronting Gu Changge directly, he resorted to cursing him secretly.
“Believe what Gu Changge said. If not for his intervention, why would Xiaoyu attract public ire?”
Agu’s defense of Gu Changge further exacerbated Ying Shuang’s agitation. His face contorted angrily as he exclaimed, “You’re all fools! Do you honestly believe Gu Changge acted out of concern? Xiaoyu may have been reckless, but are you as foolish as she is?”
Witnessing Ying Shuang’s outburst, everyone fell into an uneasy silence. Even Agu, with a bitter smile, chose to remain silent. He understood that as a mere follower, his words held little sway over Ying Shuang’s perception of Gu Changge.
“Let’s forget about today’s events. I don’t wish to see any of you again,” Ying Shuang declared with a wave, realizing that admonishing them was futile.
His anger stemmed from concern over Gu Changge’s influence on Ying Yu, but even he was unaware of the subtle shift in his followers’ attitudes towards him.
Agu’s expression shifted several times before he seemed to come to a decision.
