I Am the Fated Villain - Chapter 405
Chapter 405: If I kill him, we will become enemies. Actually, I am more interested in you
“Sister, I’m fine. I made you worry,” Jun Yao reassured her, prompting Jun Fan to smile and shake his head slightly, as if he had fully recovered.
Gu Changge, intrigued by Jun Yao’s words prompted by the system, glanced at Jun Fan with interest. Taking a sip of tea, he calmly continued, “Actually, I already know who’s behind this recent murder. I aim to pacify the Chaos King. The son of the late Xuan Yang Demon Emperor is formidable, but his mausoleum is currently vacant.”
“Xi Yao initially suspected Jun Bufan had escaped death, and is now orchestrating events from hiding,” Gu Changge speculated thoughtfully. “I believe your insights align with Young Master Changge’s,” he added, noting Night Demon’s loyalty to the Xuan Yang Demon Emperor’s bloodline.
“I also suspect Jun Bufan feigned his death and has been behind the assassinations,” concluded Gu Changge. The Heavenly King of Peace and Chaos nodded gravely in agreement.
Gu Changge smiled, saying, “That’s why Xi Yao searched throughout the demon world, finally uncovering Jun Bufan’s likely hideout.”
“Where is he hiding?” Heavenly King Pingchao asked, visibly shocked.
Jun Fan, attentive to the conversation between Gu Changge and his father, felt a stir of emotion. He wanted to know Xi Yao’s findings yet was relieved to sense she hadn’t suspected him after all.
“In the beginning, the Xuan Yang Demon Emperor had a son and a daughter. Jun Bufan faked his death six thousand years ago. Although his elder sister Jun Ruoxi did not participate in that battle, she secluded herself in a forbidden area of the demon world afterward. No one has dared to approach it for a thousand years.”
“So Xi Yao suspects that Jun Bufan is actually hiding in that restricted area,” Gu Changge remarked with a slight smile, continuing his narrative.
Of course, these speculations had nothing to do with Empress Xi Yao at the moment. She was preoccupied with investigating numerous young geniuses; such matters were not on her mind.
Nevertheless, Gu Changge didn’t mind assisting her. After all, the enmity between her and Jun Bufan remained unresolved. Jun Bufan’s reluctance to involve his sister over the years suggested he still cared deeply for her. However, this very sentiment was also Jun Bufan’s vulnerability.
Even if the Xuan Yang Demon Emperor was not deceased when he resurfaced, both his son and daughter would still be under his control. Gu Changge doubted Jun Bufan would remain passive under such circumstances. To catch a big fish, one needed suitable bait.
“Jun Bufan’s sister, Jun Ruoxi?” Hearing this, Heavenly King Peace and Chaos’s expression changed once again. He spoke cautiously, “Then may I ask, Young Master Changge, what does Her Majesty the Queen intend? Does she wish for me to lead troops there for a cleanup operation?”
Jun Fan struggled to maintain his composure as he looked at Gu Changge, who sat at the head of the gathering, smiling like a youthful deity. Yet inside him, a storm brewed—cold anger and murderous intent surged.
In both his lifetimes, he had never despised anyone as intensely, not even Xi Yao. He didn’t believe Xi Yao uttered those words; it had to be Gu Changge’s own scheme. Did Gu Changge aim to draw him out through Jun Ruoxi? The depths of Gu Changge’s cunning and malice were truly astonishing!
“That’s correct. During the recent Sacred Mountain Assembly, Xi Yao praised Brother Junfan’s performance highly. She believes that Brother Jun Fan will become a future leader of the demon world. Therefore, she plans to task the King of Chaos and you, Jun Fan, father and son, to uncover Jun Bufan’s actions. If you succeed, that’s well and good. If not, apprehending Jun Ruoxi is not out of the question either,” Gu Changge remarked calmly, taking a sip of tea.
Hearing these words, Heavenly King Peace and Chaos’s expression turned solemn and resolute. “Thanks to Her Majesty the Queen’s trust, I will fulfill her mission with utmost dedication.”
“Xiao Fan, why haven’t you come to express your gratitude to Her Majesty the Queen and Young Master Changge?” With visible relief on his face, he gestured for Jun Fan, standing behind him.
In the demon world’s younger generation, none were entrusted by Empress Xi Yao quite like Jun Fan. If he achieved greatly this time, his influence would surely surpass even Marshal Zhen Guo.
“Jun Fan thanks Young Master Changge and Her Majesty the Queen for their esteemed trust. I will not disappoint you,” Jun Fan replied dutifully.
Despite his heart brimming with icy resentment, Jun Fan dared not show any hint of it now. He stepped forward respectfully and bowed to Gu Changge.
In that moment, he vowed inwardly to one day personally shred Gu Changge to pieces and obliterate his remains, unleashing the full fury of his hatred.
“If that’s the case, then I’m relieved.”
“Since these are all the matters Xi Yao wished to clarify, I will take my leave,” Gu Changge remarked with a satisfied smile, pleased with the demeanor of Heavenly King Peace and Chaos and Jun Fan.
With that, he made ready to depart without delay.
“Young Master Changge, travel safely,” Heavenly King Peace and Chaos rose to see them off.
Gu Changge nodded, but before leaving, he paused before Jun Yao. Seeing her momentarily flustered, he couldn’t help but smile and address her, “You must be Miss Junyao, correct? Xi Yao mentioned your skill in tea-making. If you have the time, I’d like to seek your guidance someday.”
“Ah… Young Master Changge…” Jun Yao stammered, caught off guard by Gu Changge addressing her directly and mentioning her name. She felt a bit dizzy and struggled to find her words.
“Yao’er, Young Master Changge is speaking to you,” Heavenly King Peace and Chaos interjected cheerfully, prompting her.
Suddenly aware, Jun Yao’s face flushed slightly as she gathered herself.
She was a little shy, lowering her head before looking up at Gu Changge with embarrassment. “I’m available any day, Young Master Changge. You can come anytime.”
Gu Changge appeared slightly surprised, then smiled warmly. “In that case, three days from now, I’ll visit Miss Jun Yao to learn about tea art.”
With that, he didn’t linger and departed with his group of formidable allies. As Gu Changge vanished from sight, Jun Yao’s face flushed red, her head still spinning slightly.
“Xiao Fan, can you believe it? Young Master Changge spoke to me and even knew my name…” Jun Yao gushed, her eyes bright with excitement. “Am I dreaming?”
The unexpected attention left her wondering if it was too good to be true. However, Jun Fan’s expression darkened at her words.
“I’m not feeling well. I’m going to rest,” he muttered, shaking his head as he walked away briskly. Jun Yao found his reaction odd but brushed it off.
Her thoughts were consumed with anticipation for the upcoming meeting. She eagerly counted down the days, hoping they would pass swiftly.
After leaving the Heavenly King’s Mansion, Gu Changge didn’t instruct Bai Lian’er and his brother to lead him to the supposed medicinal herb cultivation site. Instead, he returned to his usual residence within the palace.
Bai Lian’er and Bai Hua remained deeply shocked by recent events, unable to shake off what had transpired. They knew the truth about Jun Fan being Jun Bufan, even if others were unaware.
Gu Changge’s plan to have Jun Fan lead troops to surround his own sister was undeniably ruthless and cunning. Bai Lian’er and Bai Hua couldn’t help but wonder if Gu Changge already knew Jun Fan’s true identity. They felt vulnerable themselves, unable to protect their own secrets. Bai Lian’er strongly suspected that Gu Changge had deduced their identities, especially considering her long period of hiding in the shadows and managing the Spring Breeze Pavilion.
Reflecting on Gu Changge’s earlier teasing remarks on the street, they realized they had almost taken them seriously. Despite their efforts to conceal their auras, even with the jade pendant left by their father, it seemed futile now.
Bai Lian’er couldn’t comprehend how Gu Changge had seen through their disguises, but dwelling on it was fruitless at this point. If she were alone, she estimated she had a 30% chance of escaping from Gu Changge’s grasp. However, with Bai Hua by her side, abandoning him wasn’t an option. All they could do now was resign themselves to their fate.
The sense of being trapped and powerless weighed heavily on Bai Lian’er, leaving her profoundly uncomfortable.
“Well, why do you insist on covering up that birthmark on your face?” Gu Changge interjected with a hint of curiosity, interrupting Bai Lian’er’s thoughts.
Bai Lian’er snapped back to attention, meeting Gu Changge’s gaze. “I’m not sure what you mean, my lord?”
“Elder sister…” Bai Hua interjected nervously, eyeing Gu Changge with apprehension. Though not the sharpest, he sensed something was amiss.
Gu Changge, instead of directing them to locate medicinal herbs as expected, had brought them back to the palace and dismissed the others. The implications were clear.
“It’s nothing serious. I just find that birthmark on your face rather unsightly,” Gu Changge remarked casually.
Bai Lian’er regarded him calmly. “My apologies, my lord. I was born with this birthmark. If it bothers you, perhaps my lord should consider letting me go.”
Gu Changge’s gaze lingered on her face, then he smiled faintly. “And what if I refuse?”
“Then I’ll have no choice but to continue being an inconvenience to my lord,” Bai Lian’er replied without fear.
“Is that so? You seem quite confident in testing me,” Gu Changge commented casually. “But your pretense of confusion doesn’t fool me.”
Bai Lian’er looked at him with genuine puzzlement. “I beg your pardon, my lord. I’m afraid I don’t understand.”
“No matter. Perhaps after I’ve dealt with him, you’ll come to understand,” Gu Changge replied lightly, then extended his hand forward.
The void blurred suddenly, and a terrifying surge of power crashed down like a tidal wave, overwhelming Bai Hua whose complexion turned ashen. Before he could react, Gu Changge’s divine power transformed into a colossal hand that seized him in the void.
“Sister, save me…” Bai Hua gasped, his face drained of color. A spurt of blood erupted from his mouth, followed by the sickening sound of bones breaking and his internal organs tearing apart. If not for Gu Changge’s precise control, his body would have exploded then and there, annihilating him completely.
Witnessing this horrific scene, Bai Lian’er’s expression darkened. She cast a cold glance at Bai Hua, feeling burdened by the responsibility her father had entrusted him with. If not for that, she wouldn’t have hesitated to rid herself of such a cumbersome liability, nor would she be at the mercy of Gu Changge’s whims.
“What is the meaning of this, sir? My brother and I have no quarrel with you. We merely gather herbs for a living and do not seek trouble with others,” Bai Lian’er stated calmly, though Gu Changge likely already knew their true identities, she was reluctant to confirm it until necessary.
“It matters not. By killing him now, we will indeed become enemies,” Gu Changge replied with a light smile.
Bai Lian’er’s face froze in disbelief. She hadn’t expected Gu Changge to be so forthright.
As Gu Changge’s words hung in the air, a sickening crunch echoed from the void. Bai Hua screamed in agony, his face contorted with unbearable pain.
“Sister, save me…” His voice trembled with fear and agony.
“You can’t even endure this pain. Truly useless,” Bai Lian’er retorted coldly, though inwardly conflicted. Despite her harsh words, she couldn’t bear to watch Bai Hua perish before her eyes.
At that moment, Bai Lian’er stared at Gu Changge with a cold gaze and declared, “Release him, or you’ll never achieve your goal. My life holds little value, and I fear not death.”
In the Spring Breeze Pavilion, she had long set aside thoughts of her own life and death. As an assassin, one’s life was never truly one’s own; missions could end in either success or eternal silence. What her father, Bai Kun, had bestowed upon her felt more like a duty. If she were to lose her life in the line of duty, it would be by her own choice. Indifferent to the whims of fate, she faced Gu Changge’s threat without fear.
“I suppose you have a point. Your life means very little to me,” Gu Changge responded with a smile, then released his grip on Bai Hua. “Are you ready to demonstrate your sincerity now?”
Bai Lian’er stared back at him icily, her expression betraying no hint of emotion.
“What sincerity do you require?” she inquired sharply.
“The sincerity I seek is quite simple, actually. I find your current demeanor distasteful. It disgusts me,” Gu Changge remarked, shaking his head faintly. “You’ve succeeded in repulsing me, at the very least.”
Bai Lian’er was taken aback by his straightforwardness. She hadn’t anticipated this to be Gu Changge’s demand.
In response, she sneered, “I didn’t expect you to be so superficial.”
Yet, as the words left her lips, her demeanor shifted, reverting to its original impassive state.
Her method of disguise was exceptionally cunning, involving numerous transformations that altered not only her appearance but also reshaped her bones, flesh, and aura. Even powerful beings capable of discerning origins would find it challenging to detect any anomalies.
“Much easier on the eyes,” Gu Changge nodded approvingly, observing her anew. Bai Lian’er possessed a captivating allure due to her unique physique, though his expression remained unchanged.
“It appears the Killing Emperor’s inheritance has truly found its way to you. Even the most supreme beings would struggle to penetrate this method of disguise,” Gu Changge remarked calmly.
“Is that your intention?” Bai Lian’er’s expression shifted slightly. Despite long-standing rumors in the outside world suggesting that the enigmatic figure behind the Spring Breeze Pavilion held the Killing Emperor’s inheritance, it had never been confirmed.
Gu Changge didn’t directly respond to her question. Instead, he stated calmly, “I can release your father and ensure the demon world ceases its pursuit of him.”
“What are your conditions?” Bai Lian’er scrutinized him closely, her gaze unwavering. “If you fulfill your end of the bargain, I will hand over that bag willingly. But if you break your promise, even if you kill me, you won’t obtain it.”
“No, you’ve misunderstood me,” Gu Changge interjected with a dismissive wave of his hand, a smile playing on his lips. “More than that bag, I’m actually interested in you.”
Bai Lian’er understood his implication perfectly. She regarded him with a cold stare, contemplating her options. Gu Changge was in no rush; whether it was the bag or Bai Lian’er herself, he desired both.
Having managed the Spring Breeze Pavilion single-handedly for years, Bai Lian’er’s skills and methods needed no elaboration. Though lacking the prestigious background of ancient assassin organizations like the Buddha and the Underworld, her capability was unquestionable. For Gu Changge, nurturing a clandestine assassin network held great potential benefits.
“How can I trust you? Trust is hard to come by, especially with someone like you,” Bai Lian’er suddenly lifted her head, fixing Gu Changge with a piercing gaze, demanding a definitive answer.
Gu Changge remained unruffled, smiling gently. “It’s not a matter of whether you want to trust me, but rather that you have no choice but to trust me now.”
“Your father, the forces supporting you, and your cumbersome younger brother—all of their fates are in my hands. Whom else do you think you can trust?” He continued calmly. “Of course, you need not concern yourself with them, and it costs me nothing.”
Bai Lian’er fell silent, weighing her options carefully. People like Gu Changge weren’t trustworthy, yet not trusting him could lead to her death today, along with Bai Hua’s demise. Her father would meet the same fate, and the organization she had painstakingly built over 6,000 years would crumble without her leadership.
If she agreed to Gu Changge’s terms, however, she would be obliged to obey his commands and be under his control from that moment onward.
“I understand,” Bai Lian’er finally spoke after a moment of contemplation, nodding solemnly.
