I Am the Fated Villain - Chapter 437
Chapter 437: Don’t you want to? Found the warm feeling of the previous life
Elder Tang ordered all members of the Tang family to prepare for the arrival of an important person. Although they didn’t know who this prominent figure was, they couldn’t help but feel a sense of respect. The Tang family, though not as old as other great sects, held a significant place in the Wan Dao business alliance, showcasing the strength of their past masters.
Moreover, the family had immense trust in Elder Tang’s words, leaving many clan members shocked. “A great man, could it be him?” Tang Wan immediately thought of Gu Changge and was very surprised. Besides Gu Changge, who else could command such respect from Yin Mei?
“What is he doing in the Tang family at this time?” she wondered uneasily. She suspected that the reason the Tang family had submitted to Yin Mei was due to Gu Changge’s influence. This realization caused her rebellious spirit to gradually subside. She was well aware of Gu Changge’s methods and his terrifying reputation. In this world, it was acceptable to offend anyone—except Gu Changge.
“He wants to control the Tang family’s property, so who else can stop him?” Her heart was filled with bitterness and desperation, feeling extremely gloomy.
She wasn’t sure what Qin Wuya could do. Even if he had a plan, could he really be a match for Gu Changge? It seemed unnecessary to even consider. She knew that even Qin Wuya was unknowingly under Gu Changge’s control.
“Is it finally over?” she sighed softly, her heart finally calming down. After some internal struggle, she decided to warn Qin Wuya. His care for her during this time had moved her, filling her with both gratitude and guilt. And now, the person Qin Wuya had to face was Gu Changge.
Although Gu Changge controlled her life and death, as long as she did not betray him, he wouldn’t care about her being a useless pawn. Despite the Tang family’s actions that left her feeling cold, it was still the family that had given her life and raised her, making it difficult for Tang Wan to stand by and do nothing.
However, when Tang Wan went to Qin Wuya’s residence to find him, she discovered he was not there and seemed to have gone elsewhere. This left her surprised and stunned. She sighed inwardly, wondering if all of this was preordained. She felt powerless to change anything.
On the second day, outside the Tang family’s mansion, nine-headed blue dragons soared across the sky, accompanied by many powerful figures. Leading them was Gu Changge. Elder Tang and the others were already waiting respectfully.
Having already guessed that the person behind Yin Mei was Gu Changge, Elder Tang wasn’t very surprised. He looked extremely submissive and dared not show any disrespect. Tang Wan was also among the crowd, watching Gu Changge descend from the white jade chariot.
She hadn’t seen him for a while, but his cultivation and aura had grown even more terrifying, far beyond being described as unfathomable. What was even more frightening was the invincible aura he now exuded. Although he didn’t show it intentionally, it made those nearby turn pale and feel suffocated and breathless.
With every movement of his hands and feet, he appeared like a young immortal, surrounded by fairy light, auspicious clouds, and a chaotic mist disappearing between his palms. His power was unimaginable.
“Greetings, Young Master Changge,” Elder Tang and the others respectfully spoke.
“My master,” Yin Mei stood at the front with a smile on her pretty face.
Gu Changge nodded, casting a brief glance at them before his gaze settled on Yin Mei. “I’m aware of the situation. If they’re disobedient, then simply eliminate them.”
To him, the issue of Tang family members with different surnames was insignificant and not worth his attention. His primary reason for visiting the Tang family this time was to resolve the matter concerning Qin Wuya, the fortunate son.
Yin Mei smiled and nodded in response. “Since Young Master has spoken, I will instruct others to handle those with foreign surnames within the Tang family.”
Understanding that Gu Changge didn’t concern himself with the business ties controlled by these individuals, she refrained from probing further. Given Gu Changge’s current stature, wasting time on such matters was out of the question.
The atmosphere among the Tang family, including the elders, turned cold. In just a few words, Gu Changge had sealed the fate of those with foreign surnames. To him, it was akin to crushing ants—no need for concern.
This realization deepened the fear and reverence everyone in the Tang family felt. Their lives were as much under Gu Changge’s control as those with foreign surnames. They couldn’t comprehend how this had come to pass.
They never imagined that after Tang Wan’s younger brother, Tang Tian, woke up from his coma, the mysterious scriptures that had surfaced in his mind would pose a problem. Until now, they had regarded these scriptures as a priceless ancient immortal text, to be treasured and passed down through generations as a family heirloom.
In their eyes, Gu Changge’s methods were enigmatic and unpredictable, subtly exerting control over their family’s fate without their awareness. Many speculated whether they were influenced by some secretive control techniques like poison pills or Gu worms, but their searches yielded no clues.
“Young Master Changge, please follow me,” Elder Tang invited respectfully.
Leading the way, Elder Tang guided Gu Changge into a cluster of palaces where mist swirled, spiritual springs gurgled, and an aura of immortality permeated the serene and picturesque surroundings. Even the architecture, with its solemn and ancient appearance, exuded a dignified presence, each brick and tile gleaming with various hues of light.
“Only the most esteemed guests of our Tang family are welcomed here. Initially, our Tang family invested heavily to have an ancient artisan oversee its construction. It embodies the style of ancient times,” Elder Tang explained with a touch of pride in his demeanor.
After all, such palaces and pavilions were rare, with every brick and tile meticulously chosen. Gu Changge nodded casually as he observed the surroundings. “It does indeed reflect a hint of the pre-Ancient style.”
Seeing Gu Changge’s brief response, the members of the Tang family weren’t surprised. “Young Master Changge, please rest here. We won’t disturb you further,” Elder Tang respectfully suggested.
Soon, Elder Tang and the others departed, but Gu Changge unexpectedly called out to Tang Wan, asking her to stay. This caught many members of the Tang family off guard, who looked at Tang Wan with varying expressions, unaware of when she had met Gu Changge.
Even Elder Tang couldn’t hide his curiosity, noting the unspoken connection between Tang Wan and Gu Changge. During the previous conflict involving Yin Mei, the Tang family had believed it was a standoff between Yin Mei and Tang Wan, unaware of Gu Changge’s involvement.
Tang Wan hadn’t anticipated being singled out by Gu Changge. She nervously pursed her lips, feeling uneasy. Wisely, the rest of the Tang family withdrew, avoiding further questions. Elder Tang, aware of Tang Wan’s affection for a man named Chu Hao, briefly pondered whether there might be something between Tang Wan and Gu Changge, despite Gu Changge’s high status making it unlikely for Tang Wan to catch his attention.
“Greetings, Young Master Changge,” Tang Wan greeted nervously, her eyes fixed on the ground. She harbored a deep fear of Gu Changge, feeling as though he could see through all her thoughts and secrets.
Gu Changge found a stone bench and settled himself comfortably before asking with curiosity, “Do you know why I’ve summoned you?”
Tang Wan’s heart raced, and she quickly replied, “Master Changge, I haven’t defied your wishes. I’ve been monitoring Qin Wuya closely and haven’t divulged anything about you to him.”
She feared Gu Changge might have discovered her attempt to warn Qin Wuya, intensifying her anxiety. With everyone in the Tang family’s lives under Gu Changge’s control, she dared not oppose him, fearing it would bring disaster upon her family.
Gu Changge smiled faintly and remarked, “Really? It’s good you didn’t do it. I never believed you had the nerve.”
Tang Wan breathed a sigh of relief, worried Gu Changge might not trust her and demand proof.
“This time I’ve come to the Tang family to deal with Qin Wuya,” Gu Changge continued calmly. “Here’s the Burial Water. You’ll give it to him. Once it’s done, I’ll spare the Tang family. If not, your family will share his fate.”
Suddenly, Gu Changge’s tone shifted. He glanced at Tang Wan with keen interest and produced a small white jade bottle from his robe.
Her complexion drained of color, disbelief etched on her face as her fingers trembled beneath her sleeves. Even Yin Mei, standing obediently behind Gu Changge, reacted with a chill as she eyed the white jade bottle with apprehension.
“Burning Immortal Water…” Tang Wan’s voice trembled, filled with fear, a chilling sensation running down her spine.
Gu Changge’s plan was clear—he intended for her to kill Qin Wuya by poisoning him. Burning Immortal Water, rumored to be capable of subduing immortals, was a rare and deadly poison with origins shrouded in mystery. Just a drop was valued sky-high, and ordinary cultivators dared not even approach it.
Rumors whispered that Burning Immortal Water contained the malevolent essence of cultivators from the fairyland, making it a substance feared and respected among practitioners.
The cultivators who dared to approach it risked suffering severe backlash, their organs turning to pus and blood, incurable even by immortal medicine. The Burial Immortal Water was almost mythical in the upper realms, seldom seen and mostly existing in rumors. Yet here, in Gu Changge’s hand, was a bottle of it.
Even a single drop of Burial Immortal Water held unimaginable value.
“What? Don’t you want to?” Gu Changge’s smile remained faint, his handsome features serene, exuding a gentle charm like a spring breeze.
But for Tang Wan, every part of her body tingled with fear, her limbs turning cold as if submerged in icy water. Her fingers trembled uncontrollably as she tried to reach for the white jade vial in Gu Changge’s hand, struggling to compose herself.
Her fingers shook violently, as though sifting through chaff. The white jade bottle seemed scalding hot in her presence, threatening to slip from her grasp.
“You must hold it steady and not drop it. It took considerable effort for me to acquire such a small bottle,” Gu Changge instructed calmly.
“I didn’t intend for it to be this troublesome, but this is your consequence for sympathizing with him,” he added with a slight smile, though his tone held a hint of regret, as if he found the situation unfortunate.
“I… I understand,” Tang Wan replied, her complexion growing even paler, her heart sinking deeper into fear.
She felt a mix of regret and despair. She now realized that Gu Changge had known about her attempt to warn Qin Wuya all along. She had foolishly assumed he wouldn’t care.
“After you’ve arranged everything, inform me. I wouldn’t want to miss this spectacle,” Gu Changge continued, his smile fading slightly.
“Go back,” he concluded, waving dismissively as he signaled for Tang Wan to leave. It seemed he had no desire to prolong her distress.
“Yes,” Tang Wan murmured, her hands trembling as she tightly clutched the white jade vial. Bitterness and despair filled her heart as she departed.
She didn’t dare to resent Gu Changge. Instead, she blamed herself for her moment of compassion and regretted her actions. There was no remedy for regret in this world. She couldn’t risk the fate of her family and the lives of her clan members, especially knowing Qin Wuya stood no chance against Gu Changge from the outset.
It was all predestined.
After watching Tang Wan depart, Yin Mei couldn’t help but ask curiously, “Is Young Master really planning to have Tang Wan poison that person?”
She couldn’t fathom why Gu Changge, with his formidable strength, would bother with such a task.
Gu Changge looked at her with a smile and gestured with his hand, prompting Yin Mei to come closer into his embrace.
“I simply want to see if she’s capable of taking a life,” Gu Changge explained calmly. “As for whether she poisons him or not, it’s inconsequential. The moment I arrived at the Tang family, Qin Wuya’s fate was sealed.”
Gu Changge smiled indifferently, showing he wasn’t overly concerned. He gently stroked Yin Mei’s fox tail with his palm, his touch light and soothing.
“It seems she’s not foolish and will find a way,” he remarked casually.
Yin Mei’s expression clouded over momentarily, her demeanor soft and captivating.
In truth, Gu Changge had another motive: the more desperate Qin Wuya became, the more luck points and destiny points Gu Changge could harvest. After all, Qin Wuya had accumulated a significant amount of luck points during his lifetime, and as a returning elder brother from the Nine Heavens, he likely harbored secrets that interested Gu Changge.
After the Taboo Era ended, the upper realm shattered, the Immortal Palace collapsed, and the immortals perished. The few remaining immortals departed for Nine Heavens, sealing their Immortal Gate, rendering the Heavens and Earth unreachable. Since then, no true immortals had emerged in the upper realm.
Today, many factions such as the Ancient Immortal Gu family, Buddha Mountain, and others had ties to Nine Heavens. However, due to the vast expanse of time involved, few possessed comprehensive knowledge. Much of their understanding came from ancient texts and records.
In fact, some claimed that the river of time preceding the Taboo Era had even collapsed. In the epochs before the Immortal Palace, an even more extended era existed. Yet, due to the fear instilled by the Taboo Era, many kept knowledge of it hidden, avoiding mention of its name. The mere utterance of those words evoked deep-seated fear and trembling in their souls.
This pervasive unease stemmed from a fear not of knowing its deeds, but simply from the ominous weight carried by those two words alone.
“However, Qin Wuya is cautious; he might notice,” Gu Changge mused, a hint of playfulness in his smile. “But it all depends on whether he’s willing to drink the poisoned water offered by his former wife.”
“My lord…” Yin Mei began, her voice trembling slightly, but she was interrupted before she could finish.
The Nine-Tailed Heavenly Fox Clan cherished their fox tails as their lifeblood. Touching them was taboo; even risking their lives, they would sever their own hands.
Yin Mei looked at Gu Changge with pleading eyes, her lips trembling slightly.
Returning to her courtyard, Tang Wan finally felt her emotions settle. The white jade vial in her hand no longer burned as intensely.
She had no choice—refusing Gu Changge’s orders wasn’t an option. Her own life hung in the balance, let alone those of her relatives.
“Burning Immortal Water…” She whispered the words softly, her decision already made. In truth, once her life fell under Gu Changge’s control, her fate was sealed.
Deciding to take action, she headed to the food hall with resolve. Her intention was clear: she would cook a meal for Qin Wuya herself, ensuring he didn’t starve on his journey to the afterlife.
Tang Wan knew Qin Wuya wasn’t currently at the clan’s residence but was out attending to his own matters. While she had felt guilt before, she dared not harbor such emotions now. After all, she was just herself, not Qin Wuya’s wife, whether in this life or any supposed reincarnation. Whatever Qin Wuya had imagined between them was merely wishful thinking; she had never asked him to do anything for her.
Soon, Tang Wan busied herself in the food hall, processing various spiritual fruits and preparing different kinds of beast meat. The aroma of her cooking filled the air, enticing and fragrant.
Many of the spirit chefs watched in astonishment as Tang Wan personally entered the food hall to cook in the middle of the night. They marveled at her audacity and wondered who was fortunate enough to receive such a gesture.
The aroma of the food filled the air, carried on the gentle morning breeze. Each piece of meat shimmered with a faint glow, crystal clear and vibrant with color and fragrance, tempting everyone who caught a whiff.
Tang Wan’s expression was complex as she worked diligently for an hour, preparing a substantial amount of food. Carefully, she added the burning immortal water, though it looked no different from ordinary spring water—pure and clear.
She briefly considered drinking it alongside Qin Wuya as a gesture of gratitude for his kindness, but ultimately dismissed the idea. Using Qin Wuya’s affections for her own safety felt wrong, and she couldn’t bring herself to end his life in such a manner.
“Take these to my courtyard,” Tang Wan instructed the servants after finishing her preparations. She then rose and made her way to the courtyard where Qin Wuya usually rested. She knew he should have returned by now.
Boom!!
Upon arrival, Logan first knocked on the door and then waited silently.
“Miss Wan’er…”
“Why are you here in the middle of the night?” Qin Wuya, clad in a robe, seemed to have just fallen asleep and was taken aback by Tang Wan’s unexpected visit.
Familiar with Tang Wan’s aura, Qin Wuya sensed her approach, stirring a wave of anticipation in his heart.
After all… A single man and a widow visiting at this hour? Moreover, Tang Wan had been his wife in a past life, prompting Qin Wuya to speculate.
Tang Wan must have observed his actions recently; it was inconceivable for her to remain indifferent.
“I’ve prepared a table of food and wine. Come to my courtyard,” Tang Wan smiled gently, her expression calm and composed.
“Miss Wan’er, did you cook this yourself?” Qin Wuya asked, surprised yet genuinely touched.
Tang Wan nodded with a smile, leading the way towards her courtyard. “I apologize for the recent troubles with the Tang family. I can’t thank you enough, so I cooked this meal as a token of appreciation.”
In Tang Wan’s view, the recent unrest among the Tang family members with other surnames was likely instigated by Qin Wuya’s plans and influence. Today, Gu Changge had ordered that these dissenting members be eliminated, a fact Qin Wuya probably wasn’t aware of yet.
“Thank you, Miss Wan’er,” Qin Wuya replied, still moved by her gesture, feeling that his efforts were worthwhile.
“By the way, Ms. Wan’er, I’ve already reached out to a friend regarding the Tang family matter. I’ve asked him to help me capture Yin Mei and force her to reveal how she manipulated the Tang family,” Qin Wuya continued, initiating the conversation about his plan as they walked towards Tang Wan’s courtyard.
He possessed many valuable resources acquired during his time in Nine Heavens, making it relatively easy for him to enlist assistance for such tasks.
“Abduct Yin Mei?” Tang Wan was slightly taken aback, not expecting this to be Qin Wuya’s plan, evidently unaware that Gu Changge had already intervened with the Tang family.
“Yes,” Qin Wuya affirmed, exuding confidence. “Miss Wan’er, don’t worry. I’ve arranged everything meticulously. No one will suspect a thing, and there won’t be any evidence left behind.”
Tang Wan listened quietly, deciding not to comment further. After tonight, Qin Wuya would be dealt with, and the Tang family’s crisis would be effortlessly resolved. His plans would amount to nothing.
Soon, they reached Tang Wan’s courtyard. Moonlight filtered through the trees, casting dappled shadows. Dimly lit candles adorned a stone table laden with an array of delicacies—meats, fruits, and melons exuding vibrant colors and enticing aromas filled the air.
“Did Ms. Wan’er prepare all of this herself?” Qin Wuya marveled, though he wasn’t entirely surprised that Tang Wan, known for her gentle demeanor, had prepared such a feast.
This scene evoked a sense of warmth reminiscent of his past life.
“Won’t you give it a try?” Logan smiled, gesturing for him to take a seat and indulge in the meal.
Qin Wuya looked at her, smiling gently. “Miss Wan’er, won’t you try it yourself?”
Tang Wan shook her head slightly. “I’ve already tasted it when I was in the food hall. I’ll just watch you eat.”
She felt a twinge of nervousness, hoping Qin Wuya wouldn’t notice anything amiss. But he seemed reassured by her response, smiling warmly.
“Since that’s the case, then I must savor every dish tonight to truly appreciate Miss’s kindness,” he replied warmly, picking up his chopsticks and starting to eat with apparent gusto, as if to assure Tang Wan of his enjoyment.
Observing him, Tang Wan chuckled softly. “Eat slowly, don’t rush. There’s wine here too, no need to worry about anyone taking it from you.”
As she refilled his wine glass, Qin Wuya raised it and drank it down in one go. The smile on Tang Wan’s face faded slightly.
“What’s wrong…” Tang Wan began to ask, but before she could finish, Qin Wuya’s expression suddenly changed. His bowl and chopsticks clattered to the ground, shattering into pieces, as he coughed up a mouthful of black blood mixed with fragments of something that looked like shattered heart pieces.
Agonizing pain washed over him, draining the color from his face as he collapsed to the ground.
