Chapter 1: Squirtle, Perform a Stunt in the City
“Magic City.”
“If I recall correctly, it’s supposed to be around here, but…”
A teenage girl named Bai Qianqian was sporting a pair of blue shorts that showcased her fair, slender, and lengthy legs. Tilting her head, the girl gazed at the attention-grabbing storefront before her.
Subsequently, Bai Qianqian cross-referenced the location with the address sent to her phone, and indeed, the location seemed accurate.
The storefront’s decor was rather impressive, exuding a sense of sophistication. The store was introduced to her by a friend as “Maya Pet Store,” so why was it now labeled as the “Pokémon Pet Store”?
What could this possibly signify?
Moreover, she had never encountered the platinum-toned cartoon alpaca symbol next to the store’s name, a feature she compared to the photograph of the store her friend had shared.
“Alright, since I am here now, let’s go in and look,” Bai Qianqian said as she walked into the Pokemon Pet store.
“Welcome,” a clear male voice entered Bai Qianqian’s ears as soon as she entered the door.
“Hello,” a young voice came from somewhere.
Bai Qianqian looked over the store with curious eyes, and then she saw a handsome young man who was simply dressed, and his temperament was also very clean. The man appeared to be about twenty years old.
Bai Qianqian surveyed the shop with curious eyes, and her gaze landed on a handsome young man dressed simply and neatly. His demeanor exuded a sense of cleanliness. The man seemed to be around twenty years old.
Is this really a pet store?
“???”
Many thoughts ran through Bai Qianqian’s mind. As it was her first visit to a pet shop, she was surprised to find no visible pets inside, despite the evident cleanliness and hygiene maintained in the store.
“May I ask if your store is a pet shop?” Bai Qianqian asked the young man curiously.
“Yes, Miss,” Guxin replied with a smile.
“Please have a seat.”
With great enthusiasm, Guxin led Bai Qianqian to the lounge area as she was his first customer today!
“Thank you, but in your store..,” Bai Qianqian politely thanked him and then said suspiciously.
“This is a completely new store, opened just two days ago… um… but… well… it’s quite special. The pets here are all incredibly unique and special,” Guxin understood Bai Qianqian’s doubts and tried to gain her attention incoherently.
“Special pets?” Bai Qianqian was stunned for a moment and even somewhat terrified.
The common pets are cats, dogs, birds, and fish. What about special pets? Bai Qianqian immediately thought of exotic pets like poisonous creatures and reptiles, and her fair face looked a little uncomfortable. She doesn’t like those kinds of pets at all!
“Sorry, young man, I don’t want to keep a special pet. I’d better go to another store,” Bai Qianqian immediately stood up, apologized to Guxin, and started moving towards the door.
“Wait, Miss! You may have misunderstood. The pets I have here are not what you’re thinking,” Guxin hurriedly explained.
Guxin has not sold a single Pokemon in the past two days!
This customer appeared young, but Guxin still had some vision. The bracelet on Bai Qianqian’s hand and the necklace around her neck looked quite valuable, indicating that she came from a wealthy family.
Bai Qianqian paused and turned to look at Guxin.
“When I say ‘special,’ I mean that my pets here have never appeared on the market before,” Guxin said.
“Would you like to come and see? It won’t waste much of your time,” Guxin sincerely suggested to Bai Qianqian.
“Emmmm…”
Bai Qianqian blinked twice, perhaps because Guxin, this clean-looking man, gave her a good first impression.
“Well, listen, let me clarify, young man. I’ll just take a look. If I don’t like it, I won’t buy it,” Bai Qianqian said the young man.
“Definitely! It will be your choice!” Guxin said politely.
“Pfft~ young man, you don’t need to be so polite. We’re about the same age, and it feels weird when you use honorifics with me,” Bai Qianqian couldn’t help but chuckle and cover her mouth.
“The customer is God, right? Come on, Miss, press this,” Guxin took the tablet-like device from the table and handed it to Bai Qianqian.
“This is the Pokemon Pokedex. Although my pet shop isn’t very big, I still have a wide variety of pets.”
“Right now, a direct selection of pets is not available. It’s up to the customer to randomly choose one of the available pets. I have always believed that God determines fate.”
“Pets are the most sincere companions and friends to accompany people. So, Miss, who will be your friend? Come and give it a try.”
Guxin explained everything with a smile, looking at Bai Qianqian, who was puzzled.
Although it is said to be very high, the simple understanding is that she can only make a random draw instead of choosing freely.
“Haha, that’s quite interesting,” Bai Qianqian said.
But obviously, the language art is so magical Bai Qianqian was intrigued by Guxin’s words.
She took the so-called Pokedex and tapped a big ‘go’ on the Pokedex screen.
The screen started scrolling rapidly, with a black shadow of creatures continuously turning on the screen. Although everything on the screen looked black, the shapes at the edges of the black shadows made Bai Qianqian curious.
She had a feeling that some of the shadows looked very strange. Why did the one with wings resemble a flying dragon in Western mythology?
After a few breaths, the black shadow slowly froze. Bai Qianqian and even Guxin were curious and leaned over to look.
I hope it’s a cute little creature, not something like Rattata or Ekans…
Guxin prayed in his heart. After all, Miss Bai Qianqian had already said it directly. She didn’t like crawling pets. This customer would leave if it was an Ekans-like rattlesnake or an Arbok-like cobra.
“Boss, is this the one?” The image became clear, and Bai Qianqian curiously asked Guxin while pointing at the Pokedex.
The displayed image showed a creature resembling a turtle with a large bald head, a blue body, and a red shell on its back. It looked charming.
Seeing this, Guxin let out a sigh of relief. It was Squirtle, after all.
“Yes, miss, you’re very lucky. It’s called Squirtle and is a perfect companion for a novice like you. It’s also very reliable.”
Guxin smiled at Bai Qianqian.
“It looks charming. Can I see it now?” Asked Bai Qianqian.
“Of course, please wait a moment,” Guxin replied.
After a slight bow to Bai Qianqian, Guxin walked towards a compartment in the store. He returned one minute later, holding a small blue turtle in his arms.
“Is this the one?” She asked.
Bai Qianqian’s eyes lit up as she excitedly looked at the Squirtle. It was even cuter than in the picture, with its round, shiny head and watery, curious eyes.
“Yes, Squirtle, do you like this young lady?” Guxin rubbed Squirtle’s head and asked with a smile.
“Squirtle~ Squirtle Squirtle~”
Squirtle blinked its eyes and then waved its small stubby arms, greeting Bai Qianqian and expressing its fondness with a clear and tender sound.
“Oh? Is that how a turtle sounds?”
Bai Qianqian was shocked, but her eyes lit up, and she immediately brushed aside that doubt.
“Wow, does it still understand you?” Bai Qianqian looked at Squirtle with astonishment and delight, so smart.
“Yes, Squirtle is a brilliant creature. Although it can’t communicate using human language, it can understand the meaning you want to convey.”
“And Squirtle also has a special talent,” Guxin explained everything to Bai Qianqian to clear her doubts.
Guxin handed Squirtle to Bai Qianqian, who was very happy to receive it. Curiously and joyfully, she gently tapped Squirtle’s head and cheeks with her fingers, and its skin felt surprisingly good.
“What talent?” Asked Bai Qianqian.
“Squirtle, show the young lady a trick. Use Water Gun,” Guxin picked up a disposable cup nearby and tossed it into the air.
“Squirtle~”
Squirtle puffed up its cheeks, and then a small stream of water shot out, directly hitting the cup mid-air.
Exactly the Water Gun!
Bai Qianqian was dumbfounded!
This little blue turtle can actually spout water?!
