Chapter 42: Druddugon should be expelled from the dragon registration.
“Wait? Little brother, you’re not afraid that your dad will cause you trouble?” Amused by her brother’s newfound interest, Ruan Xinyi raised an eyebrow and teased him with a chuckle.
“If you’re not afraid, sis, why would I be?” Ruan Xinyi retorted, rolling his eyes.
Ruan Xinyi continued with her chuckles, “Oh, how mature.”
“Mr. Process is already understood,” Guxin interjected. But he paid no mind to that. Seeing the young man also ready to purchase a creature, he was overjoyed and had no time for explanations.
Handing the Store Manager’s Pokédex to Ruan Xinyi, Guxin smiled and spoke, “Of course, I want the most powerful one!”
Ruan Xinyi tossed the New Trainer’s Handbook to Ruan Xinyi, rubbed his hands together, and nervously took the Store Manager’s Pokédex. He opened his mouth to ask Guxin curiously, “By the way, Store Manager, which type of creature has the most power?”
“Definitely Grass-type!” Ruan Xinyi chimed in confidently, hugging Bulbasaur in her arms. Bulbasaur seemed to cooperate by giving out a cute call.
Ruan Xinyi cast a disdainful glance at Ruan Xinyi and Bulbasaur. How could she say that so naturally?
“There’s no absolute strong or weak among the types. Mr. who just looked through the New Trainer’s Handbook should know this because types have a rock-paper-scissors relationship,” Guxin explained after thinking for a moment. Creature types were quite intricate; they had a system of strengths and weaknesses.
The simplest example was the starter trio’s types. Fire was strong against Grass, Grass was strong against Water, and Water was strong against Fire. It was as simple as that.
So, there’s no omnipotent type. Even the powerful Dragon-type was countered by the Fairy type. The moves of the Dragon type were ineffective against Fairy types, just as Dark types countered the persistent Psychic types. Even the Psychic-type moves were ineffective against dark types.
“But if we’re talking about challenging types, Ghost, Poison, and Psychic are the three most challenging ones. As for Dragon…”
“Dragon-types are undeniably powerful due to their formidable constitution. Each Dragon-type doesn’t just excel in terms of type; compared to other creatures, their robust bodies are a natural advantage.”
After a brief hesitation, Guxin added, “Of course, these are one-sided perceptions. The strength of creatures really depends on the trainer’s nurturing. In battles, the role of the trainer equally influences the outcome.”
“I understand,” Ruan Xinyi said thoughtfully, noting the four types Guxin had mentioned: Poison, Ghost, Psychic, and Dragon.
Taking a deep breath, Ruan Xinyi pressed “go” with determination.
Let’s get a Dragon! Let’s get a Dragon!
Ruan Xinyi stared intensely at the shifting silhouette on the Pokédex screen, mentally praying to various deities and luck-related figures like the Three Pure Ones, Nüwa, Huangdi, Jesus, and Lady Luck.
Curious, Ruan Xinyi leaned in, her head almost touching her brother’s. She was eager to see what creature her dear brother would get.
After a while, the shadow on the Pokédex screen gradually stopped moving.
“Boss, what’s this?” Ruan Xinyi was stunned when he recognized the creature on the Pokédex.
“Let me see. Oh~ You’ve got some luck, customer. This is Voltorb,” Guxin said with a glance, raising an eyebrow. The creatures these folks were drawing were quite good.
“Voltorb? An Electric type?” Ruan Xinyi mumbled the name, naturally associating it with Electric types.
“That’s right, Voltorb is a very typical Electric-type creature, and its strength within the Electric type is quite remarkable,” Guxin explained, smiling. Indeed, within the Electric type category, Voltorb was quite exceptional. Its final evolved form, Electrode, was also formidable.
“It looks a bit odd, but not ugly,” Ruan Xinyi gently pinched Bulbasaur’s cheek and carefully observed Voltorb’s appearance before giving her evaluation.
It wasn’t ugly, but it couldn’t be called attractive.
“What do you think, customer? Would you like to draw again or stick with this one? I think Voltorb is a good choice,” Guxin looked at Ruan Xinyi, who seemed torn, and tactfully offered his opinion.
Voltorb was an excellent creature among all the options. He had a feeling that Ruan Xinyi might be considering drawing a type of creature he had just mentioned. But it was more complicated, and even if he did draw that type, it might not be better than Voltorb.
Not to mention the likelihood of drawing something else entirely; of course, he was the seller, and Ruan Xinyi was the customer. The choice was ultimately up to Ruan Xinyi.
“Let’s go with Voltorb, boss.”
After a moment of internal struggle, Ruan Xinyi finally made a decision. This was his first time, after all!
Ruan Xinyi looked at the image of Voltorb in the Pokédex, feeling quite satisfied. After all, it was the first creature he had drawn, and had a sense of destiny.
“It’s a very wise choice,” Guxin nodded approvingly. He preferred customers like Ruan Xinyi, who were more rational. Well, even though he liked big spenders more.
