Chapter 44: Asks, how many eggs can Manaphy lay?
After squeezing three red envelopes from ‘The Most Honest Kid’ with tears in his eyes, Guxin contentedly ordered two ice cream online – one for himself and one for his beloved Diancie. Perfect.
“Boss, we’re going to take our leave now. We’ll come back to borrow the training grounds another time,” Ruan Xinyi said as she snatched three red envelopes cheerfully.
“Why not try a Pokémon battle before you go?” Guxin raised an eyebrow, inquiring.
“No, no. Our father is strict. We’ve been out for over an hour already, and it’s time for our calligraphy practice,” Ruan Xinyi sighed tiredly with a hint of regret. There was no helping it; their father’s authority loomed large.
“Emmm, then until you visit again,” Guxin gave them a thoughtful look. He estimated that both of them were under twenty years old. Despite their mature conversation skills, Ruan Xinyi’s delicate facial features still reflected youthfulness. They were probably high school students. How could they control their Sunday outing time so strictly? What kind of family was this? It is quite rare nowadays to find families with such strict discipline.
“Goodbye, boss,” the siblings bid farewell to Guxin, who politely saw them off.
“Not bad, not bad. Business is booming today!” Guxin returned to the store and calculated the number of Pokémon he had sold. A smile stretched across his face.
Vulpix, Gyokiraa, Uglyfish, Horsea, and the recent Bulbasaur and Voltorb made a total of six Pokémon sold, with a turnover of nearly 6.3 million yuan.
Quite satisfactory.
“Especially…” Guxin glanced at the system tasks.
‘Sell ten Pokémon – completed.’
The additional task of selling Pokémon was already at the second stage, which meant he could draw another Pokémon. Splendid.
“System, claim rewards.”
Lying back in his chair, Guxin clicked on the reward claim button.
“Reward claimed successfully. Would you like to enter the unlimited prize pool draw?”
“Draw!”
Without hesitation, Guxin selected to draw a prize. With only him and Diancie, his only Pokémon, at the store, it felt a bit deserted when no customers were around.
“Drawing initiated.”
The mechanical synthesized voice echoed in Guxin’s mind, and a translucent virtual roulette wheel appeared before his eyes.
“Phew~ Let’s go for a Legendary this time.”
Like his first experience drawing Diancie, the unlimited prize pool could give him a Legendary Pokémon. Legendary Pokémon like Lugia, Mewtwo, Rayquaza, or Ho-oh.
He wasn’t hoping for anything better than Diancie, but he could get something like a Mew or a Celebi, both powerful and adorable.
The shadow on the roulette wheel gradually slowed down, ultimately coming to rest on a small, obscure figure.
“Ding~ Congratulations, host! You’ve drawn Manaphy.”
The system’s synthesized voice echoed in Guxin’s ear as the figure became clearer.
“Since the host has completed two draws, as a reward for your diligent efforts in caring for Pokémon, a random Pokémon egg will also be given.”
Before Guxin could start celebrating, another notification from the system popped up.
“Haha~ You’re too kind. Isn’t it a bit too much for you to reward me with a Pokémon egg?”
Guxin’s face almost twisted into a smile as he politely feigned surprise.
System: “…”
“System, claim the Pokémon egg and Manaphy.”
The system’s lack of response didn’t surprise Guxin at all. He wasn’t sure if the system operated based on predetermined algorithms or if it possessed genuine consciousness. However, Guxin hardly cared about this. Getting a second chance at life was already a significant gift, not to mention the entirely new life and purpose the system had granted him.
He was even quite grateful to the system. Without it, he would have remained an ordinary and unremarkable individual.
And as Guxin’s words settled, a spirit orb and a spirit egg appeared before him.
“Can’t tell about this egg,” Guxin commented as he lifted the white egg adorned with faint green spots, blinking his eyes in curiosity.
Typically, a spirit egg’s surface would reflect the elemental color of the spirit it held—red for fire, blue for water, and so on. However, many eggs displayed a normal white color with green spots, just like Guxin’s. Analyzing the spirit’s attributes from such an egg was difficult.
“Well, it’s a bonus anyway. The system’s creations are always top-notch. I’ll just wait until it hatches,” Guxin mused, placing the spirit egg aside. He intended to put it in the incubator he received from the system when he opened his shop.
Speaking of which, the system was genuinely considerate. It provided almost all the equipment needed for his shop, and everything was comprehensive.
“Next up is this one—Manaphy. Come out,” Guxin announced, tossing out the spirit orb. A flash of white light ensued, revealing a small blue spirit floating before Guxin. The spirit had watery, large eyes that surveyed its surroundings.
Seemingly sensing the presence of a new companion, Diancie, who was engrossed in watching anime, bounded over with excitement.
“Mana~”
Manaphy turned towards Diancie, and they exchanged a curious glance. Manaphy emitted a delicate, musical chirp, its voice clear and pleasant.
“Hello there, Manaphy. We’re family from now on. Let’s get along well,” Guxin addressed Manaphy with a warm smile.
“Mana~ Mana Mana~” Manaphy’s eyes sparkled, offering a pure smile to Guxin, nodding its head.
“So adorable,” Guxin couldn’t help but smile even wider at Manaphy’s charming appearance. Manaphy was the epitome of cuteness. It had a petite figure, measuring only about 0.4 meters tall. Its entire body was a light blue akin to water. It had short arms, an oval-shaped head, and two blue antennae on top of its head, each ending in a spherical tip. Above its eyes were two lines that connected to two yellow dots. It was an incredibly cute little creature.
“This is Diancie, also our companion.”
“Diancie, this is Manaphy.”
Guxin introduced the two adorable beings to each other.
“Mana~” Manaphy drifted over to Diancie, offering a friendly greeting with its clear and gentle voice.
“Hello~” Diancie blinked and returned the greeting with a soothing smile, radiating a healing aura. With adding a new companion who seemed easy to get along with, Diancie was delighted.
“This is great, really great, and…”
Watching Manaphy happily floating around the shop, Guxin’s face lit up with a wry smile. Not only was Manaphy an adorable Mythical Pokémon, but it could also fight!
What’s even more important was that Manaphy was the only Mythical Pokémon that could breed with Ditto!
What did this signify?
When he had a suitable Ditto, he could have this adorable Manaphy produce eggs with the Ditto!
With Manaphy, wasn’t it as good as having a Phione? As for Phione’s battle prowess, Guxin wasn’t planning to use it for battles. It was mainly there to add some liveliness to the shop, to be cute.
Imagine this: a bunch of adorable Phione eagerly welcoming customers as they entered the shop. Wouldn’t that outshine cat cafes and the like?
Yep, no problems there. And as a Mythical Pokémon, Manaphy must have a robust constitution. Having around ten or eight Phione, was that feasible?
Guxin pondered this question seriously. Just how many eggs could one Manaphy produce?
