Chapter 1: The Second Mysterious Figure in the Love Apartment!
A certain foolish young man stared helplessly at the ceiling. How should he explain this? It was a long, complicated story. To put it simply, this guy had traveled through time!
Yes, it was a ridiculously long and troublesome tale. The young man’s name was Chen Yuze, the same as before his transmigration. His elders had named him “Yuze” (Rain of Blessings), hoping he would bring prosperity to future generations. Unfortunately, his family hadn’t exactly been virtuous—well, to put it bluntly, they were a bunch of tomb raiders. After sorting through his memories, he finally pieced everything together.
The Chen Yuze who had traveled here was originally just an ordinary rich second-generation heir. His parents had been too busy chasing cars, houses, and money to pay him any attention. It wasn’t until their deaths that they even remembered they had a son. Ridiculous, right? His existence had been practically negligible. So, honestly, transmigrating here didn’t bother him at all.
After merging memories, he realized this world’s Chen Yuze wasn’t ordinary either—he was also filthy rich. For example, he owned several buildings in Shanghai. And most importantly, today, he had officially renamed one of his apartment complexes: Love Apartment.
Yup. He was now the goofy landlord of Love Apartment, the only thing his family had left him. Tomb raiding was a dangerous business, after all, so even before Chen Yuze transmigrated, the original owner had already become a loner with no living relatives. But that was fine—less chance of anyone exposing his secret.
The phone rang, and Chen Yuze instinctively picked it up.
“Landlord, the wedding is about to start. Aren’t you coming?” A voice came through the receiver.
Chen Yuze remembered—today was Wang Tiezhu and Tian Erniu’s wedding. As the landlord, he should attend. But the original landlord had been a shut-in who hated crowded events. Having grown up surrounded by flattery, he avoided such gatherings.
But the current Chen Yuze was different. He wanted to see Love Apartment’s bunch of oddballs. Still, he decided to sneak in quietly. After all, he needed to keep his landlord’s identity hidden. Nobody had seen him before, so blending in would be easy.
“I won’t be coming. Have fun without me!” Chen Yuze replied, then added an excuse: “The other building’s under renovation, and I’m swamped with paperwork for the name change. Since the rebranding is their wedding gift, you know how complicated it is.”
“Ah, right. You should’ve mentioned it earlier. I’ll handle things here then!” The other person hesitated but agreed—after all, the couple had only brought this up yesterday. There really wasn’t enough time.
After hanging up, Chen Yuze rummaged for some casual clothes, threw them on, and admired himself in the mirror.
“How can someone as handsome as me even exist? Look at this face, this physique!”
Pfft. As if that explained why he’d never had a girlfriend. A narcissist like him deserved a good beating—enough to turn his face into a pig’s head. Sadly, no one was around to do the honors.
He drove to the apartment in an ordinary SUV. Though he owned plenty of luxury cars, he’d lent them all out for the wedding. This SUV was something he’d bought with his first month’s rent money.
At the entrance, someone was keeping track of gift money. Chen Yuze patted his pockets—a few cards, but no POS machine in sight. After more searching, he finally dug out 1,000 yuan in cash. (Probably the original owner’s habit.)
Why carry so much cash? Isn’t that dumb? What about WeChat Pay or Alipay?
Well, bad news—this was a time before smartphones, let alone mobile payment. Surprise!
Chen Yuze knew this and that developing those apps early could make him rich. But he was rich already. Plus, it’d take too much effort, and he had zero tech skills. No point dreaming of fortunes. For all he knew, the future “tech dads” were already working on them.
He walked up to the gift registrar, who glanced at him.
“Name and amount.”
So blunt. Chen Yuze pulled out seven red bills.
“666. Give me change.”
The registrar froze. Who gave odd amounts for wedding gifts? It was always whole numbers! After a long stare, Chen Yuze added another bill.
“Fine, 800.”
The man gave him a “That’s more like it” look, wrote down Chen Yuze’s name, and shooed him away. Chen Yuze briefly considered raising this guy’s rent but decided against it. The future policy was “rent halved, utilities free” for couples. With that attitude, this guy would probably stay single forever.
Once inside, Chen Yuze felt hungry and sneaked into a corner to snack. Why was he, a rich guy, acting like a thief? Who knew?
Munching happily (the food was delicious), he suddenly felt a hand on his shoulder.
“Hey, buddy. That hungry?”
“Yup. Came straight here without eating.” Chen Yuze replied without turning.
“Damn, you’re dedicated. Skipping meals just for free food? As deputy head of the Tenant Subcommittee, I arrest you! The wedding hasn’t even started!” The man sounded annoyed.
“Hello, Madam Chairperson. Food’s food. I’ve been busy all morning!” Chen Yuze answered casually, though internally, he was cursing.
