Chapter 6: Moving into Love Apartment

No sooner had the introductions finished than Chen Meijia walked over, clutching a small note. She squinted at the words and read haltingly to Zeng Xiaoxian:

“Um… are you the… uh… Women’s Leader under the Residents’ Committee… or something?”

“Deputy Leader!” Zeng Xiaoxian corrected.

But Meijia was already distracted, staring at Chen Yuze. What a coincidence! She barely registered Xiaoxian’s words. “Right, right, same thing! So, now that he’s not the priest anymore, can we move in?”

“Of course! Yuze is moving in too,” Xiaoxian said cheerfully. With the bride and groom gone, only two people remained in Suites 3601 and 3602.

Meijia’s eyes sparkled. “Half rent, free utilities?”

“Absolutely!”

“Yay! I love you!” She squealed, throwing her arms around Zeng Xiaoxian before skipping off to share the news with Lü Ziqiao.

“Wait!” Xiaoxian called after her.

Meijia froze. Did they figure out we’re faking it?

She turned back nervously, only for Xiaoxian to beam at her. “Your boyfriend’s English is amazing!”

Chen Yuze muttered under his breath, “Which says a lot about your English level, Teacher Zeng. Maybe he’s your junior or something…”

“Really? I do think my English is pretty good,” Xiaoxian chuckled, slinging an arm around Yuze’s shoulders. “But why ‘junior’? Do I look that young?”

“Idiot, he wasn’t complimenting you,” Hu Yifei cut in, unable to watch this embarrassment any longer. She dragged Xiaoxian away while Chen Yuze found a seat to eat, he still hadn’t gotten a proper meal.

Moving Plans

Once the wedding wrapped up, Yifei and Xiaoxian approached Yuze. “Need help moving? Your place must be far. Xiaoxian can drive you—it’ll save time.”

Yuze shook his head. “No need! I drove here myself. I don’t have much stuff—just one trip. Besides, you guys must be swamped today with all the new roommates.”

“Alright, but call us if you need anything,” Yifei relented.

“Got it!” Yuze hurried off. No way I’m letting them see my villa. That’d blow my cover. He also needed to buy some “adventurer” props to back up his earlier lie.

“Remember, we’re in 3601 and 3602. Call me when you get here,” Yifei reminded.

Yuze nodded, waved goodbye, and climbed into his car—a heavily modified off-roader.

The group gaped.

“Is Yuze… rich?” Zeng Xiaoxian stared at the taillights, then at his own beat-up Xiali. Why does he get a car like that?

Yifei shrugged. “Maybe it’s for work? Polar guides need tough vehicles.” She’d asked Zhanbo earlier and learned what the job entailed. Who knew this guy had such a dangerous career?

The Roommate Shuffle

After packing light (and buying some convincing gear), Yuze returned to Love Apartment. Lu Zhanbo was waiting downstairs, eyeing the car enviously.

“Why are you here?” Yuze asked. Shouldn’t he be glued to WanYu?

“My sister’s orders,” Zhanbo sighed. “I’m supposed to guide you guys so you don’t get lost.”

As they carried Yuze’s things upstairs, they overheard an argument:

Yifei: “You’re moving out, now!”
Xiaoxian: “Why me? You’re the one who invited everyone!”

The two had been roommates in one suite, but with new arrivals, Yifei wanted to “look after her brother” (and pair Zhanbo with WanYu).

Zhanbo barged in. “Sis, don’t bother Teacher Zeng. I’ll move instead.”

“Or I can switch,” Yuze offered. “It’s just next door.”

“NO!” Yifei’s roar nearly made them drop their bags. She glared at Xiaoxian. “Jianren Zeng, are you moving or not?”

Xiaoxian wilted under her gaze.

Yuze stepped in. “Yifei-jie, really, I don’t mind—”

“No! I promised you this suite. If you move, I lose face!” Yifei’s stubbornness was legendary. She’s like a mule, Yuze thought. And Xiaoxian should know better than to argue.
