Perfect Villain Life: Universal Job Change - Chapter 153
Chapter 153: What a Little Fool
The trial space was filled with constant battles.
The geniuses who entered the trial either formed teams or acted alone as they began challenging the digitalized bosses.
Fortunately, these bosses existed in independent spaces, allowing everyone to simultaneously attack their digitalized projections.
The competition was fierce, with the leaderboard changing every moment as participants pushed themselves to secure a spot in the top three rankings.
Being in the top three was seen as a guarantee of a prosperous future, making everyone fight desperately to stand out.
The trial space itself was an enormous void, featuring a mix of environments: barren wastelands, sprawling cities, and abandoned castles scattered randomly.
This chaotic realm embodied the essence of the Void World, a place where countless devoured worlds left behind fragmented shadows, appearing in a jumbled, chaotic form.
In the midst of this chaos, several men dressed in black appeared within the trial space. Their auras were powerful, with each one at least level 45.
By all accounts, individuals of their age and strength shouldn’t have been able to enter the trial space, yet here they were, and no one knew how they had managed it.
“Prepare to move,” commanded the leader of the group, his expression stern as he surveyed the surroundings. “Head toward the Void Lord Gobel and deploy the disruption terminal.”
This man, Jia Zhiyong, was a Major General of the Imperial Capital Defense Group, a level 55 powerhouse. The group he led, the elite soldiers directly controlled by the military, was renowned for their formidable strength.
The Void Hunting Trial was a massive trial space created by the empire. Its operation was based on digitalized programs that ensured participants were withdrawn immediately if they faced danger.
The system also adjusted challenges based on each participant’s level and profession.
However, the disruption terminal they carried was designed to interfere with the trial space’s operating system.
Once placed, the system would descend into chaos, causing the digitalized Void bosses to go berserk and unleash an unrestricted hunt on all participants.
The Void Lord Gobel, the strongest of all the digitalized bosses, would undoubtedly claim countless lives in the ensuing chaos, shaking the entire empire.
Such an outcome would place the trial’s chief overseer, Wen Yu, entirely at fault. Not even the empire’s regent, Lu Ji, could protect her from the fallout.
The black-clad operatives, their faces devoid of emotion, understood the severe consequences of their actions. Yet none of them hesitated, their loyalty aligned solely with the military’s interests.
“What about the Qin family’s people?” someone asked.
The military and the Qin family had joined forces to unseat Wen Yu and divide control of the Eastern Army. According to their plans, the Qin family’s experts were supposed to coordinate with them.
“We haven’t contacted them yet,” someone replied.
Jia Zhiyong frowned but quickly dismissed his displeasure. “It doesn’t matter; they’ll act eventually. Let’s proceed according to plan.”
As one of the military’s senior leaders, Jia Zhiyong was well aware of the Qin family’s ambitions. They wanted control of the Eastern Army even more than the military did and wouldn’t miss this opportunity.
—
Back in the command hall, chaos erupted. Many monitoring screens simultaneously displayed errors, leaving the hall unable to access any real-time information about the trial space.
Wen Yu’s face turned icy, but she wasn’t entirely surprised. She had long anticipated that the military would tamper with the trial system. Thankfully, she had made preparations in advance. Glancing at Sun Ke beside her, she nodded subtly.
Inside the trial space, within the Crystal Palace, a maze-like trial zone, there were fewer challengers due to its high difficulty. However, clearing it offered an immense amount of points.
At this moment, Wen Xu and his team had climbed to the top ranks on the leaderboard. Despite this, Wen Xu wore a dark expression as he looked at the leaderboard. The name occupying the top spot was the one he least wanted to see: Qin Xian.
Not only was Qin Xian in the lead, but his points created a stark gap between him and the rest. Like a mountain, Qin Xian’s presence weighed heavily on Wen Xu, making it hard to breathe.
Shaking off his frustration, Wen Xu refocused on the task at hand. Having been teleported to the Crystal Palace, his team had been scattered across different parts of the maze. His immediate concern was Gu Anran’s safety.
Fortunately, he had provided Gu Anran and the others with position beacons, allowing them to track each other.
Activating his own beacon, Wen Xu began heading toward their prearranged meeting point. Before long, he reunited with Zhao Haoran, Li Ling, and Xu Taichu.
But Gu Anran was nowhere to be seen.
“Where’s Anran?” Wen Xu’s face darkened with concern as he checked his position beacon.
To his dismay, he discovered that instead of heading to the meeting point, Gu Anran had ventured deeper into the Crystal Palace.
Exchanging glances, Wen Xu and his companions came to the same conclusion: Gu Anran had gotten lost again. Her knack for losing her way was so predictable that they couldn’t even be surprised.
“What a little fool,” Wen Xu muttered with a doting smile. Without hesitation, he prepared to follow the beacon’s signal to find her.
—
Deep within the Crystal Palace, Gu Anran curiously surveyed her surroundings. From her inventory, she retrieved an item, its surface emitting a strange purple glow.
Speaking to herself, she said, “Siyuan said that placing this here would trigger some unexpected events. It’ll be a good test to see who truly cares about me.”
The object in her hand was a box radiating an eerie, otherworldly purple light. Anyone else who saw it would undoubtedly be shocked and horrified. It was none other than the Void Beacon.
