Chapter 14: The Sleeping Master’s Wife
Linghu Chong suddenly appeared outside Yue Lingshan’s room.
Staring at the tightly shut door, he suddenly hesitated, too afraid to knock, unsure of how to face Ning Zhongze.
He raised his hand as if to knock, but after holding it up for a long while, he still hadn’t brought it down.
He was struggling inwardly.
After a long time—
Linghu Chong’s expression turned resolute, and steeling his heart, he was about to knock.
Just then, a pleasant voice called out from behind.
“Wait!”
Linghu Chong turned around to see that Yue Lingshan had actually come running after him.
“Phew… don’t knock, Senior Brother!”
Yue Lingshan bent over slightly, her voluptuous body heaving, one hand supporting her slender waist, the other reaching out toward Linghu Chong as she panted heavily.
She had chased after Linghu Chong in a dead sprint, her feet practically smoking, yet she hadn’t even caught a glimpse of his shadow.
She couldn’t understand how he could move so fast—running like that nearly killed her.
The reason she pushed herself so hard was to prevent Linghu Chong from disturbing her mother’s sleep.
Even so, she’d almost been a step too late. The thought left Yue Lingshan deeply shaken.
“Junior Sister, why are you so exhausted? And why can’t I knock on the door?”
Linghu Chong walked over and helped her up—her slender waist was soft and supple like a water snake.
“It’s all because of you! Running so fast—no matter how hard I chased, I just couldn’t catch up.” Yue Lingshan shot him a glare as she spoke.
“You were chasing me? Why?” Linghu Chong asked in confusion.
“Isn’t it obvious? I was afraid you’d wake my mother—she’s sleeping inside!” Yue Lingshan glanced at her room, then looked back at Linghu Chong. “You nearly caused a disaster, Senior Brother! If you had woken my mother up, you’d be in big trouble!”
“Oh, I see.” Linghu Chong suddenly understood, and at the same time, felt relieved. Thank goodness Yue Lingshan had caught up in time; otherwise, he really would have disturbed Ning Zhongze.
“Now you see how great I am, don’t you?” Yue Lingshan said with a grin.
“Mhm! Junior Sister, you’re amazing. You saved your Senior Brother’s life.” Linghu Chong gave her an exaggerated thumbs-up.
“But… why is Master’s Wife sleeping in your room?” Linghu Chong asked, puzzled.
Yue Lingshan lightly bit her lip, pressing her index finger to her cheek as she tilted her eyes upward in thought. “I’m not too sure either. I heard from Father that Mother said my room was darker and quieter—better for sleeping.”
She honestly wasn’t clear on the reason.
“I see! Can I go in and take a look?” Linghu Chong asked. Though he didn’t know exactly why Ning Zhongze was doing this, it probably had to do with what happened last night.
After all, after such a prolonged battle, she hadn’t slept all night. Her energy must have been drained—it made sense that she’d need proper rest.
“Okay, but you have to be quiet. Don’t you dare wake my mother!” Yue Lingshan warned.
“Got it.”
The two of them walked quietly to the door. Linghu Chong gently pushed it open with both hands.
Creak!!!
There was still a slight sound.
Once the door was open just enough for a person to slip through, Linghu Chong stopped.
Then, the two tiptoed inside.
As soon as they entered the room, a faint, elegant fragrance unique to a girl’s room wafted into their noses.
Clack!
The soft sound of the door being closed.
Linghu Chong turned to Yue Lingshan and they exchanged a glance. He raised a finger to his lips in a “shhh” gesture.
Yue Lingshan nodded.
Then the two held their breath and quietly walked toward the bedside.
Arriving at the bed—
They saw Ning Zhongze lying there quietly, radiantly beautiful. Even though the silk quilt was somewhat thick, it still couldn’t fully conceal her graceful, curvaceous figure. Some parts of her perfect silhouette were still visible.
She looked as though she were sleeping soundly and sweetly. On her dignified and elegant face was a faint smile, with a hint of healthy, rosy color.
Her cherry blossom-like lips slightly parted in rhythm with her steady breathing, and her delicate, straight nose would sometimes twitch ever so gently.
Like a sleeping beauty—so stunning, so enchanting, that one felt unworthy to gaze upon her, as if doing so would desecrate that sacred beauty.
Ning Zhongze exuded a uniquely fatal charm that could drive people mad.
Linghu Chong couldn’t help but become dazed at the sight. The tension in his heart gradually melted away.
Unconsciously, he reached out his hand—boldly and without realizing it—toward Ning Zhongze’s exquisite cheek.
Slap!
Yue Lingshan slapped his hand away. The sound was soft, yet Ning Zhongze’s brows still twitched slightly. Fortunately, she did not wake.
Both of them let out a sigh of relief.
Yue Lingshan then shot Linghu Chong a sharp glare, clearly annoyed.
Linghu Chong gave a small, apologetic smile, admitting his fault with his expression.
In truth, he was shocked too. He didn’t know why he reached out like that—especially in front of Yue Lingshan. His heart pounded anxiously as he glanced at her, hoping she hadn’t misunderstood.
Thankfully, Yue Lingshan hadn’t thought too much of it. She assumed Linghu Chong had only done that out of concern.
Looking at her mother’s sweet, peaceful expression, Yue Lingshan was also mesmerized. She had never seen her mother look so beautiful—never seen her sleep so soundly, as if all her worries and troubles had vanished, her face utterly relaxed and content.
Linghu Chong sat by the bedside, quietly admiring Ning Zhongze’s beauty. After all, this was the first woman he had been intimate with—his emotions were inevitably complicated.
Yue Lingshan also sat down, silently accompanying her mother alongside Linghu Chong.
And so, the two of them sat by Ning Zhongze’s side for two whole hours.
Noon arrived.
Yue Lingshan began to feel hungry, so she leaned closer to Linghu Chong’s ear and whispered softly, “Senior Brother, I’m hungry. Let’s go get something to eat.”
Linghu Chong glanced at her, then whispered back in her ear, “Junior Sister, I’m not hungry. You go eat—I want to stay here with Master’s Wife. One of us has to keep watch. Don’t worry, I’ll take care of everything. You can come back and relieve me after you’re done eating.”
Hearing this, Yue Lingshan frowned slightly, looked at her still-sleeping mother, then said, “All right. You keep watch, I’ll grab a bite and come back quickly.”
Linghu Chong nodded, signaling that she could go without worry.
Yue Lingshan quietly slipped away.
After she had gone far enough, Linghu Chong turned back toward the sleeping Ning Zhongze. His face revealed a mix of complicated emotions and guilt—
This situation… no one could’ve predicted it.
“No… it can’t be like this…”
Suddenly, Ning Zhongze murmured in her sleep, as if caught in a nightmare.
“Ning Zhongze!”
Linghu Chong was startled. He softly called her name. Seeing the pain on her face, he quickly reached out and grasped her exposed jade-like hand, hoping to soothe her emotions.
A miraculous thing happened—
It seemed to work.
Ning Zhongze’s furrowed brows gradually relaxed. The pain on her face disappeared, and she returned to that peaceful, serene sleeping state.
Her lips slightly parted in a tender, sweet smile.
Staring at the stunningly beautiful, sleeping Ning Zhongze, Linghu Chong became more and more entranced. His body slowly leaned closer and closer…
