Chapter 6: Let’s Try It Again
The sky had not yet brightened.
But the shy moon was gradually sinking.
In the back mountain of Huashan.
“Waa~~ So comfortable! I didn’t expect this to be a hot spring!”
Soaking in the warm and gentle spring water, Linghu Chong’s face was filled with an expression of utter enjoyment.
“Mhm! Who would have thought there’s a hot spring on the back mountain? Truly amazing!”
Ning Zhongze scooped up some of the warm water and stretched out her slender jade-like hand toward the moon on the horizon.
The warm and soothing water immediately flowed down her arm, washing away the grime. The skin the droplets glided across shimmered with a sacred radiance.
“This feels amazing!”
Linghu Chong shouted joyfully—it had been ages since he last soaked in such a relaxing hot spring. His loud voice echoed across the night sky and the sea of clouds.
“Keep your voice down!”
Ning Zhongze was startled by Linghu Chong’s outburst, her face showing a flustered expression as she gave him a displeased shove.
Linghu Chong’s foot slipped, and he fell straight into the deepest part of the spring.
“Wuah!”
He swallowed a mouthful of water, eyes wide in alarm as he instinctively held his breath. Through the water’s surface, he saw two large, round “moons” suspended above him.
“Chong’er, Chong’er!”
Seeing that Linghu Chong hadn’t surfaced, Ning Zhongze began to call out in worry, her hands frantically searching through the water for his figure, afraid he might have drowned.
Linghu Chong, however, was playing hide-and-seek with her.
No matter how Ning Zhongze searched, she couldn’t find a trace of him.
Meanwhile, Linghu Chong had somehow circled behind her.
Quietly, he surfaced from the water.
Seeing the anxious look on Ning Zhongze’s face, Linghu Chong smiled faintly and said, “Master’s Wife, I’m right here!”
“Chong’er!”
Ning Zhongze turned around joyfully upon hearing his voice.
However, what greeted her next was a splash of water as Linghu Chong slapped the surface, sending it toward her.
The warm, clear water soaked Ning Zhongze’s entire head, making her look like a drenched chicken.
“Hahaha!”
Linghu Chong laughed gleefully, clearly proud of his prank.
“Chong’er, how dare you tease your Master’s Wife! See if I don’t skin you alive!”
Ning Zhongze was furious—furious that she’d worried so much, only for him to be playing around.
Enraged, she lunged at Linghu Chong, knocking him over into the water.
Then she grabbed the back of his neck and began dunking his head furiously into the spring.
Linghu Chong had no strength to resist and choked on several mouthfuls of water.
“No… please… Master’s Wife…”
“…Glub glub… I… was wrong… I won’t dare again… glub glub…”
He begged continuously, but could only speak in the brief moments he surfaced, leaving his pleas half-said.
“Hmph!” But Ning Zhongze merely snorted coldly in response, still angry and unwilling to listen.
Her hands didn’t stop, continuing to ‘discipline’ Linghu Chong.
After a long while—
Linghu Chong fell still.
Ning Zhongze became worried again and quickly pulled him up from the water.
“Chong’er! Are you all right?” Seeing his dazed expression, she was startled.
“I-I’m fine…”
Linghu Chong shook his head weakly. He was okay—just a little dizzy.
“You look awful and still say you’re fine! Don’t scare your Master’s Wife like that!” Ning Zhongze frowned, her face full of deep concern.
But this pitiful and worried look left Linghu Chong in a daze.
“Master’s Wife, you’re so beautiful.” He murmured.
Is it my imagination, or had Ning Zhongze become even more stunning, even more youthful?
“You… at a time like this, still saying things to make your Master’s Wife mad!”
Ning Zhongze shot him a glance, her tone feigning irritation, though her heart wasn’t actually resisting. For some reason, ever since she woke up, she just couldn’t bring herself to stay mad at him. In fact, she felt slightly drawn to him.
Linghu Chong stood up in the water, supporting Ning Zhongze, his eyes fixed deeply on hers.
“Chong’er… what… what are you doing?” Ning Zhongze was flustered by his burning gaze. She lowered her head, her cheeks flushed alluringly.
Looking at her delicate face, Linghu Chong said gently, “I mean it, Master’s Wife.”
Hearing that, Ning Zhongze’s pupils widened slightly. Her hands nervously fidgeted in the water. Her heart couldn’t stay calm, and her pulse sped up.
Silence fell between them.
Linghu Chong looked at the unusually quiet Ning Zhongze, and, as if driven by a mysterious impulse, embraced her soft, voluptuous figure.
A wave of scorching masculine scent enveloped her.
Ning Zhongze instantly sobered up. She quickly placed her hands on his chest and shook her head:
“All right, Chong’er. Enough fooling around. If this continues, I’ll be angry! Let me wash your back. Once we’re done, we’ll go back!”
Linghu Chong stared silently at her beautiful face for a moment, then replied slowly, “All right. Thank you, Master’s Wife.”
“Turn around.”
“Yes!”
Linghu Chong turned, presenting his back.
Ning Zhongze picked up a handkerchief, soaked it in water, and began gently wiping his back.
Seeing the bright red bloodstains on the bandage, Ning Zhongze’s heart ached. Her brows furrowed with visible pain.
She gently touched the wrapped wound and asked softly, “Does it hurt?”
“No, Master’s Wife.”
Linghu Chong shook his head. He could feel her fingers moving and knew what she was referring to.
“Liar! The whole dagger was buried in, and you say it doesn’t hurt?” Her heart ached even more hearing that, along with a tinge of guilt.
“Hehe.”
Linghu Chong chuckled foolishly. It had hurt before—but now, it didn’t. It felt as if the pain had vanished.
After a while—
“All done,” Ning Zhongze said. She had finished cleaning his back.
“Done already?” Linghu Chong turned around, unexpectedly feeling a bit reluctant, wishing it had lasted longer.
“Mhm.” Ning Zhongze responded flatly.
At that moment, Linghu Chong noticed her damp hair and had a thought. “Master’s Wife, your hair’s all wet. You should wash it, or you might catch a cold.”
She gave him a cold look and snorted, “Hmph! It’s all your fault.”
“My bad, Master’s Wife! Let me make it up to you!” Linghu Chong grinned sheepishly.
“No need, I’ll do it myself!” Ning Zhongze scolded.
Then she let down her waterfall-like black hair and began washing it on the water’s surface.
Seeing this, Linghu Chong eagerly ran over to help.
“I said I’ll do it myself. How can a grown man help a woman wash her hair?” Ning Zhongze tried to pull her hair back.
According to tradition, it’s said that if a man washes a woman’s hair, it brings bad luck—so she had always done it herself.
“So what? What’s wrong with a man washing a woman’s hair? Is it shameful?” Linghu Chong objected.
Then he picked up her hair again and gently started cleaning it.
“You…” Ning Zhongze was at a loss for words, surprised by what he said.
This time, she didn’t resist and let him continue.
Feeling his gentle movements, Ning Zhongze’s heart filled with warmth. It was the first time she had experienced this kind of care.
Not having to move herself—it felt so good.
Though they were both silent, the scene grew even more tender.
It felt like a married couple, with the man lovingly washing the woman’s long hair.
Just then—
Linghu Chong suddenly asked, “Master’s Wife, has your poison been cured?”
Hearing this, Ning Zhongze’s curvaceous figure trembled slightly. She naturally understood what poison he meant. With her back still facing him, a seductive blush crept up her face.
She lowered her head and said nothing.
“Seems not, then…”
Seeing her silence, Linghu Chong smirked with a touch of mischief.
He slowly wrapped his arms around Ning Zhongze’s delicate, curvy body from behind…
…
…
Ning Zhongze stiffened nervously…
