Chapter 8: I Hit a Fortune, I’m Going to Become an Immortal
“Secret Manual of Controlling Women!”
“Holy crap, what the actual hell…”
“I’m about to strike it rich!”
“No!”
“I’m about to become immortal!”
Linghu Chong stared wide-eyed at the four dazzling golden characters floating in his mind.
It turned out to be the legendary peerless divine technique, the supreme immortal scripture: Secret Manual of Controlling Women!
Holy hell, damn, damn, damn…
No wonder during the battle, my cultivation kept rising nonstop.
Turns out it was because of this supreme cultivation method.
I’ve made it! I’ve made it big!
This time, I’ve really made it big.
This is the path to becoming an immortal!
According to unofficial historical records, in the distant ancient times, it was Emperor Xuanyuan who relied on this supreme technique to cultivate supreme immortal roots, open the nine Immortal Gates, and ascend to the heavens in broad daylight!¹
Let’s just say, maybe my talent can’t match that of our ancient ancestor, the Yellow Emperor, Xuanyuan.
But I do have perseverance, and this is a heaven-sent opportunity and overwhelming fortune.
If three thousand isn’t enough, then make it thirty thousand!
Thirty thousand should be enough to let me ascend in broad daylight, right?
If thirty thousand isn’t enough, then how about three hundred thousand…
Cough cough!
That’s a bit exaggerated, huh!
Even if my aptitude is a bit dull, it shouldn’t take three million, right?
Stay calm, must stay calm, don’t panic!
The goal of becoming an immortal is still far off.
Although I can’t ascend now, I can still enjoy myself.
Linghu Chong tried to steady his mind, telling himself to first check whether this technique was actually legit… Ahem, to see whether it’s real.
Immediately, he sat cross-legged and began circulating his inner energy according to the supreme heart technique.
With a single thought, the golden runes in his mind began to spin again, and streams of golden light flowed through every part of his body.
Instantly, both his body and soul were immersed in a warm and comfortable ocean, carefree and at ease, as if soaring freely across the skies.
Yin and yang giving birth to creation, qi transforming into primordial chaos!
Linghu Chong felt a divine and mysterious golden energy surging into his dantian like a vast, unending river.
As this energy entered his dantian, it stirred the chaos like a primordial dragon, continually cleansing and refining it.
Soon after, the energy formed a qi of yin and yang creation within his dantian, a never-ending, self-sustaining flow that surged again through his meridians and sea of consciousness. Wherever it passed, his muscles, bones, and flesh made crackling sounds; his mind became crystal clear, as though reborn.
…
Meanwhile—
Atop Mount Hua.
The Huashan Sect was perched upon its peak.
By now, it was already early morning. All disciples and elders had gone to the main hall and training grounds for their morning practice.
As the sect leader of Huashan, Yue Buqun should be no exception.
After the great battle, Ning Zhongze’s cultivation had skyrocketed. Using her qinggong, she dashed all the way back to the Huashan Sect.
Upon returning, she didn’t head to the main hall at the summit.
Instead, she went to the side courtyard where she usually lived.
She needed to change her clothes first—the ones she wore during the battle were already in tatters.
If she met anyone dressed like that, it would be unthinkable—it’d shake the entire Huashan Sect.
Ning Zhongze cautiously looked around, not daring to make a sound, afraid of being discovered.
Coming home felt like committing a burglary.
She tiptoed along the corridor toward her private room, her bright, lively eyes scanning the area for any suspicious individuals following her.
With nervous anticipation, Ning Zhongze finally reached her room’s door.
Just before pushing it open, still feeling uneasy, she glanced around once more.
After confirming no one had followed her, she was about to push the door open—
But right then, the door swung open from the inside, and a tall figure stood there pulling the door wide.
In that instant, their eyes locked—wide eyes staring at wider eyes.
Ning Zhongze stood frozen, stunned.
“Junior Sister!!!” Yue Buqun exclaimed in shock as he recognized her face.
The next moment, a sharp, piercing scream echoed across Mount Hua.
“Ahhh!!!”
Ning Zhongze screamed with her eyes shut, shoved Yue Buqun aside, and dashed into the room.
Then she kicked Yue Buqun right out.
“Bang!” A loud crash. She slammed the door shut.
The entire sequence of actions was smooth and seamless.
Yue Buqun was so stunned he didn’t even react.
“Junior Sister! Junior Sister!” Coming to his senses, Yue Buqun got up and shouted toward the room.
He pushed the door, only to find it locked. So he started knocking repeatedly.
“Senior Brother! Don’t come in!” Ning Zhongze replied while pressing her body against the door, her tone panicked.
At this moment, she was in full-on panic mode, her face filled with fear and anxiety.
She couldn’t understand why Yue Buqun was still in the room—wasn’t he supposed to be leading morning practice?
Her mind went blank.
Did Yue Buqun see my disheveled, torn-up appearance?
Waves of fear and anxiety surged within her.
“Junior Sister, open the door! What’s going on? What happened? Why did you and Chong’er both disappear?” Yue Buqun shouted anxiously.
Ever since Ning Zhongze and Linghu Chong had lost contact, the entire Huashan Sect had been in upheaval. All the disciples had been sent out to search for them.
Earlier, just before dawn, news came in—a battle had broken out in the last known location of the two.
Yue Buqun flew into a rage and decided to search for them himself. But first, he came back to prepare.
He never expected to run into Ning Zhongze just as he opened the door.
This left him completely baffled, desperate to know what had happened.
Plus, Yue Buqun had just caught a glimpse of Ning Zhongze’s torn, disheveled clothing. It made him deeply concerned.
“Junior Sister!!” With no response, Yue Buqun knocked harder, calling out again.
But still, there was no reply—only rustling sounds from within.
Ning Zhongze quickly found a clean palace dress she usually wore and changed into it without wasting a second.
After changing, she prepared to hide the clothes she’d just taken off. She couldn’t let Yue Buqun see them—there’d be no way to explain.
She looked around the room for a hiding spot but found nowhere safe enough.
Then, lowering her gaze, she noticed the hem of her skirt—and her eyes lit up.
Once the clothes were hidden, Ning Zhongze took a deep breath and calmed herself. She slapped her cheeks to clear the panic from her face.
She fully transformed back into the dignified, graceful Shiniang⁵ of the Huashan Sect—the renowned ‘Jade Maiden Ning’.
After composing herself, she walked to the door, unlocked the bolt, and pulled it open from the inside.
