Chapter 20: Pheasant Seeking Phoenix, Named Hongling.
Who knows, this seemingly ordinary little chicken is a special little demon.
A reminder similar to when he met Long Zhi appeared in his mind when Bai Yu saw it for the first time. Shopkeeper Li thought that the chicken was just an extra, not worth mentioning compared to Bai Yu.
To Bai Yu, a hundred golds didn’t matter. Even a thousand golds came back after they had been gone!
“Now you are the good guy, I’ll be the villain~,” Bai Yu chuckled, sat at the table, and gently scratched the chicken’s neck.
The little snake said, “Young master~ so what kind of evil person is there? I am on your side!”
The snake obeyed Bai Yu’s intentions, obediently letting him caress.
“Why does the young master know that it is extraordinary?” She asked.
Bai Yu chuckled lightly and said nonsense, “An immortal once entrusted me with a dream, telling me that a phoenix is descending here. After entering, I somehow felt that it was destined for me…”
The little snake believed Bai Yu immediately, feeling that it was reasonable for the fairy to dream and find the chick by intuition. But then, Bai Yu laughed frivolously and exposed his lie.
Long Zhi: …
So angry! Just said not to lie, and the young master was teasing and cheating Long again!
“Young master!”
“Long Zhi will be angry too!”
After spending a long time in the mortal world, the initially reserved and lonely house-girl dragon has gained some human qualities. Whether it’s a good or bad transformation remained uncertain.
“Hey~ Is that so?” Bai Yu playfully poked her head, asking with a grin, like a mischievous elementary school boy trying to provoke a girl’s anger.
With a swift reaction, Bai Yu blocked the snake’s water attack, showcasing a playful side that contrasts with the dragon’s initial cold demeanour.
With a mischievous glint in its eyes, the little snake playfully nibbled on Bai Yu’s hand, creating a ticklish sensation that amused him.
“Long Zhi, how does it feel when you’re angry? Let me experience it,” Bai Yu asked with a teasing tone reminiscent of a mischievous schoolboy trying to provoke a girl.
Amid the playful banter, Bai Yu couldn’t help but notice the intriguing transformation in Long Zhi, from her initial cold and stoic self to a more lively persona.
After their playful interaction, the focus shifted to the real issue. Bai Yu inquired about the little chick evolving into a phoenix, a challenging task.
Not knowing the answer, Long Zhi felt down, realising she hadn’t accomplished much despite Bai Yu’s inquiries and requests.
Bai Yu, undeterred, suggested treating the little chick as a pet, naming it “Hong Ling” due to the faint red plumes emerging from its tail. The chick, now named Hong Ling, responded cheerfully, accepting its new identity.
In a humorous twist, Bai Yu joked about their “luck,” mentioning dragons and phoenixes arriving within two months of leaving home. He playfully entertained the idea of becoming a local corrupt official, adding a lighthearted touch to the conversation.
Long Zhi and Hong Ling, facing unique challenges, couldn’t help but find amusement in Bai Yu’s whimsical remarks. Despite the unconventional nature of their exchange, Long Zhi found herself inexplicably trusting the enigmatic young man before her, believing that the future held unpredictable and radiant possibilities.
In the end, it wasn’t about her, the little pheasant spirit, or even the young chick. It was about Bai Yu and the uncertain brilliance of the future.
