Chapter 7: Old stuff, let’s explode gold coins!
“Young man, it’s all a misunderstanding!” Pleaded the fat man, kneeling on the ground with snot and tears.
“Please, show some kindness and save me!” He begged pitifully towards Bai Yu.
Bai Yu, however, didn’t even glance at him. Instead, he turned his attention to the three brothers and asked with interest, “Is this your first time doing this?”
“There are too many loopholes! Your techniques are terrible!” He critiqued the atmosphere.
The three brothers were left bewildered, nodding subconsciously.
“Do you know how I got here?” Bai Yu asked, pointing to himself and then to the fat man. “You made him shout so loudly! Can’t you hear that he’s calling for help? Isn’t that rushing to get noticed?”
The three brothers, still puzzled, nodded again.
“Hey, uncle, what about you? Don’t you understand human language?” Bai Yu asked, pointing at the fat man.
“I’m teaching them! Stop arguing!” Bai Yu declared, playing with the broken hatchet. “If your voice exceeds fifty decibels, I will cut off one of your arms.”
The fat man fell silent instantly, looking like a girl about to be bullied, filled with fear and despair.
“What do you want?” Bai Yu asked the three brothers.
“We want money,” they responded.
“Too naive! How can a businessman not have money?” Bai Yu scoffed.
“We failed in business,” one of the brothers explained.
Bai Yu shook his head, “Simple-minded! Have you heard of the term ‘torture until confession’? Hit him until he pays,” he said, pointing at the fat man.
The three brothers, though puzzled, seemed willing to follow Bai Yu’s strange instructions.
“Don’t worry, he has a criminal record and won’t dare to report. This place is remote, and even if he reports, the local officers are incompetent and won’t catch you!” Bai Yu assured them.
“Oh!” The three brothers responded, seemingly convinced.
“Don’t hit, don’t hit! I have money!” Pleaded the fat man desperately.
Looking at the cunning Bai Yu and glancing at the three robust men, Liu Song shivered immediately. He tore open the layers of his sleeves, revealing several silver coins, and handed them over nervously, pleading.
The three brothers were surprised. He had money! You deceitful fat man, you really lied!
With a smirk, Bai Yu continued, “See, I told you, he has more! Cold hands!”
“Please, spare me! Spare me!” Liu Song begged, trembling.
The three brothers got the money, and Bai Yu, satisfied, watched the scene unfold. The fat man ended up with just his underpants, and all his imagined wealth disappeared. He even received a beating.
After internal struggle, the brothers reluctantly agreed to Bai Yu’s plan to intimidate Liu Song. They approached him menacingly with knives, glaring at Liu Song, who was battered and bruised.
In the meantime, Bai Yu seemed to realise something, smacking his forehead dramatically. “Oh no! You three are wearing masks, but I’m not!” He exclaimed.
“What if the uncle reports to the authorities?” One of the brothers questioned.
“That would be disastrous for me,” Bai Yu said, squinting his eyes. He looked at Liu Song, who had fainted from fright. “Well, perhaps we should finish him off and leave him here.”
The brothers were shocked, but they reluctantly agreed, wielding their knives. Bai Yu, however, suddenly changed his demeanour, tossing the broken hatchet aside.
“Is that it?” He scoffed. “Too timid! Not fun!”
Meanwhile, full of murderous intent, Bai Yu instantly withdrew it all. He looked at the fainted Liu Song with a hint of disdain.
“Big brothers, can we still kill him?” One of the brothers asked hesitantly.
“Kill him? What’s the point? Do you want to kill?” Bai Yu rolled his eyes at them. “Let him live with the nightmare. Isn’t it better for him to live a happy life?”
The brothers, carrying their money, gained Bai Yu’s respect. They thought Bai Yu had a significant grudge but were concerned about legal consequences. They offered to help if Bai Yu was worried about punishment.
“He insulted me and even insulted my donkey. I’m petty, so I want an explanation,” Bai Yu explained.
The three brothers looked at the unconscious, frightened merchant who had wet himself and then at the young man with the gentle smile beside them. Suddenly, they shivered, feeling a cold wind in the middle of summer.
