Chapter 9: I wish to always be with my benefactor, and I would like to protect my benefactor for the rest of my life
Funerals shouldn’t be delayed too long, and the three brothers, shocked by Bai Yu for a moment, bid farewell and left in a hurry.
“Thank you, benefactor!”
As Bai Yu was about to leave, a familiar cold female voice reached his ears.
“Whew~ you’re awake!” Bai Yu chuckled as a small white-headed snake appeared from his chest, reminiscent of the ancient tale of the farmer and the snake, though this time without an ungrateful bite.
Having sealed the dragon, Bai Yu embarked on his journey with the half-dead little snake. Although severely injured, it had not responded until now, and Bai Yu wondered if it was even alive.
Bai Yu would have thought it dead if not for the feeling of vitality. He had helped the three brothers not just out of goodwill but to assist Long Zhi, who unintentionally caused their parents’ death during her tribulation.
Bai Yu speculated on the karmic consequences and believed Long Zhi followed a righteous path in her cultivation. The gratitude expressed by Long Zhi affirmed his assumptions.
Monsters plan for decades and centuries, while human life is limited to a mere hundred years. Bai Yu wasn’t sure if he’d receive the demon fairy’s gratitude in this lifetime.
Although discussing sealing required borrowing luck, and he had rung the bell to wish for Long Zhi’s transition, Bai Yu increasingly felt that this investment was a loss. Yet, due to the sunk cost psychology, he helped the three brothers again, hoping the little snake would wake up soon.
Fortunately, luck was on his side, and the snake woke up quickly. Coiling around Bai Yu’s arm, it communicated with him through its gaze and spitting out a letter.
“How do you feel? Is it all right? Did you succeed in crossing the tribulation?” Bai Yu asked with a smile.
“Thanks to your grace, it’s done! But the injuries are serious and not all healed. It will take some time, ranging from a few months to a few years,” the little snake replied, shaking its head human-likely.
As its cold voice echoed in Bai Yu’s ear, he couldn’t help but feel a sense of responsibility for the creature’s well-being. She seemed like an ordinary person, and Bai Yu’s high acceptance of her surprised her.
“That’s interesting.”
Bai Yu nodded; he doesn’t grasp the intricacies of cultivation, and delving into it won’t bring understanding.
He inquired, “What are your plans?”
The little snake shook her head again, saying, “I don’t know!”
The path of cultivation is challenging, and without belonging to the same clan, there’s no reference. She reached this point by feeling her way, unsure what to do next.
“I vow to accompany you and protect you throughout your life!”
The little snake’s gaze was intense, fixed on Bai Yu’s eyes, with a clear but resolute tone.
Bai Yu hesitated for a moment, then smiled and nodded, not evading anything, simply responding, “Alright!”
Life can be lonely. Finding someone to spend it with is a wonderful thing, even if it’s just chatting with this snake, more interesting than the scholars in the previous inn.
“Do you have a name? I don’t know what to call you yet.”
“Let me introduce myself. I’m Bai Yu from Liuzhou, and I’m sixteen years old. Don’t call me ‘kind sir’. You can address me by my real name.”
The little snake shook her head, “Kind sir, I’m Long Zhi. I prefer not to call you by your real name directly. It’s disrespectful.”
Bai Yu, who helped her seal the dragon and assisted in overcoming challenges, smiled and agreed.
“Um…”
She has a name!
Unfortunately, he wanted to give her a name…
However, how should he put it?
Although Dragon Sister is a demon fairy, she’s surprisingly stiff.
“Calling me a benefactor is too strange. Why not just call me ‘Duke’?”
“Yes, sir!”
Bai Yu smiled. He wasn’t kind, but he wondered why everyone liked calling him a benefactor. He didn’t like that title.
“Yes, sir!”
Bai Yu smiled. He was in a good mood.
“Do you know magic? How much has your power recovered?” Bai Yu asked.
“About half. I can reluctantly use my true form. Any requests, my lord?” She replied.
“Can you transform into a white horse and let me ride?” He said.
Dragon Zhi:?
Can’t he ride in her true dragon form, soaring through the clouds and seas? Why insist on becoming a white horse?
