Chapter 15: Level 3 Rockshell Turtle
“Quickly, get moving, and pack up everything.”
“Forget about the useless stuff, just take what we need to eat and wear… just bring that.”
Before the sky was even light, the hunting team urged everyone to move.
Bang! Bang! Bang!!!
The door of the shelter was knocked on, and the hunting team didn’t request to come in but just shouted from the outside.
“The Bloodbeard Thieves are coming to kill us. We need to go to the Moon Pool Tribe for refuge.”
With just that one sentence, the hunting team left.
Mino was woken up by the noise, and she glanced at the wolf pelt draped over her body, feeling warmth in her heart.
“They’re really up early,” she muttered, yawning sleepily.
“Come on, time for breakfast.” Mu Liang had woken up much earlier.
“When did you sleep last night?” Mino asked curiously. She had seen Mu Liang not sleeping when she went to bed, as he was writing and drawing with charcoal by the fire.
Mino had been shy for a long while, wondering if she should invite him to sleep next to her.
“Around midnight,” Mu Liang replied quietly, stirring the meat soup in the steel pot.
Today’s breakfast was stew made from dried meat.
“It smells so good,” Mino sniffed, her nose scrunched up.
She walked to the fire pit, her bright blue eyes staring at the bubbling meat soup in the steel pot.
Then, Mino frowned slightly and said, “I’ll cook breakfast from now on.”
“What’s wrong?” Mu Liang looked surprised.
“You cooked too much. We need to ration the food,” Mino said, putting her hands on her hips and shaking a finger at him.
“Don’t worry, the remaining dried meat will last us for more than twenty days,” Mu Liang reassured her, handing her a full iron lunch box.
Last night, Mino had insisted on eating little lizard jerky, probably eating just enough to feel about three-quarters full. If Mino had been in charge of cooking, she probably would have made sure everyone only ate enough for three-quarters of their appetite.
“This is too much. We should save some for dinner,” Mino said, but despite her words, she couldn’t help but take the lunch box.
“Tonight, we’ll have grilled jerky,” Mu Liang said, his lips curling into a faint smile.
“Ahh~~”
Mino scooped up a spoonful of hot soup, but it was so hot she had to open her mouth and exhale.
“Be careful, it’s hot,” Mu Liang cautioned, blowing on the soup before eating his own meal slowly. It was a rare treat of proper food.
“It’s delicious,” Mino said after swallowing, her blue eyes narrowing in delight. The rich meat flavor awakened her taste buds, and the warm broth soothed her throat. The soup filled her empty stomach with contentment.
“I haven’t had meat soup in such a long time,” Mino said, her lips pressing together. Her blue eyes shimmered with tears.
Back when her sister was around, they only occasionally made meat soup.
“You can have it anytime you want,” Mu Liang said, gently wiping away a tear from her eye.
Mino shook her head, pouting. “That’s too extravagant. We can’t just drink meat soup all the time.”
“Don’t we usually just drink water?” Mu Liang asked softly.
“Mm,” Mino sniffed, nodding.
“But with meat soup, we get both water and broth,” Mu Liang grinned, his voice light. “Don’t you think it’s worth it?”
“Huh? I guess that’s true.”
Mino tilted her head, feeling a little confused. Something still seemed off, but she couldn’t quite place it.
Mu Liang smiled and waved his hand. “The soup has to be drunk hot, otherwise it won’t taste as good.”
“Mm.” Mino smiled, her eyes squinting as she continued eating.
Inside the shelter, it felt like two different worlds. While the two of them were leisurely eating breakfast, everyone in the camp was hurriedly packing their things.
“I’m so full,” Mino finally couldn’t hold back and finished the whole soup.
She bit her lip, feeling a bit guilty as she looked at the empty lunch box.
Mino had originally planned to save half for dinner, but the more she ate, the more she wanted to keep going.
“I’ll only eat one more bite, and then I’ll stop,” she told herself. But then, another bite. And then it was gone.
“How does it feel to be full?” Mu Liang asked softly.
“It feels great, but… it’s too extravagant,” Mino blushed slightly.
The amount she ate was roughly equivalent to ten little lizards.
“Don’t worry about it, leave the food to me,” Mu Liang said as he stood up and ruffled Mino’s hair.
She had saved his life, so he couldn’t let her go hungry.
Mino, blushing, didn’t know how to respond. She opened her mouth but couldn’t find the right words.
Mu Liang jokingly said, “Take off your headscarf. I can’t even touch your bunny ears.”
“What? I’m not a pet,” Mino pouted.
She hesitated for a moment before reaching up to remove the cloth covering her bunny ears.
Mu Liang’s lips curled into a small smile when he saw Mino’s actions.
Seeing his smile, Mino’s face flushed even redder. She turned her head and lifted her chin proudly. “I just wanted my ears to get some air, not for you to touch them.”
“Sure, sure,” Mu Liang suppressed a laugh.
“Hmph!” Mino huffed, embarrassed. She quickly changed the subject, asking eagerly, “Are we going to move to the back of the little Xuanwu today?”
Mino had been dreaming of their new home, a moving house.
“We don’t need to rush. We haven’t even built the house yet.”
Mu Liang wanted to upgrade the Rockshell Turtle to level 3 first, so the turtle’s shell would be larger and more spacious. That way, they could build a proper house. Of course, he had to check how big the turtle would be once it reached level 3 before planning how to build the house.
“Then should we go build the house now?” Mino’s blue eyes sparkled with excitement.
“Let’s go.” Mu Liang led the way outside the shelter.
“Wait… What about the things we brought back last night?” Mino suddenly remembered the items they had stored.
The entire camp was leaving today, and someone might sneak in and steal their stuff.
“I’ll have Xiao Cai guard the house,” Mu Liang said, pointing toward the corner of the shelter.
Mino turned her head and saw the Tri-colored Lizard, now visible in its two-meter-long form.
She nodded in reassurance. “I feel better now.”
The two of them left the shelter and quietly exited the camp from a secluded area, entering the desolate wilderness.
At that moment, the Rockshell Turtle was foraging. A mouse, hiding in a burrow, was soon sent flying with a “Ground Rock Spike” attack.
