- Chapter 3 - Inheriting the Ability of the Armored Tortoise.
003: Inheriting the Ability of the Armored Tortoise.
The world of the apocalypse, resembling a wasteland.
Plants and animals have mutated, and humans collectively refer to them as fierce beasts.
Humans have also undergone mutations, but these are less significant compared to plants and animals.
Human mutations are categorized into three types: Awakened, Mutated, and Enhanced.
- Awakened: Only one in ten thousand people, with a wide range of abilities.
- Mutated: Only one in a thousand people, with strength determined by their mutation talent.
- Enhanced: Strengthened through external means, which is the mainstream power system.
This simple information was what Mu Liang learned from Minuo.
“Eh? Mu Liang, you’re an Awakened???” Minuo stared blankly, unable to react to this shocking news.
“Yes, my awakened ability is animal taming.” Mu Liang lightly nodded.
The fact that he could tame animals would eventually be exposed, so he decided to disguise himself as an Awakened.
“Mu Liang, you’re… you’re amazing!” Minuo snapped out of her daze, grabbing Mu Liang’s arm, excitedly stammering, not knowing how to express her feelings.
The girl had heard from her sister that their camp didn’t have any Awakened, only a few Enhanced and Mutated individuals.
“Keep it down, don’t let anyone else hear.” Mu Liang reminded with a gentle smile.
“Right, right… I can’t expose your identity.”
Minuo cutely covered her mouth and nodded repeatedly.
However, the girl fell into another new dilemma: Mu Liang was an Awakened, would he stay in this small camp???
Mu Liang noticed the girl had suddenly gone quiet and didn’t disturb her.
He asked in his mind, “System, didn’t you say I could inherit an ability related to animal taming?”
“Ding! Do you wish to inherit the Rock-armored Turtle’s talent: Earth Spike?”
“Inherit.”
“Ding! Earth Spike improvement in progress… adapting… inheritance complete.”
Mu Liang heard the mechanical voice in his mind, and soon felt a cool and comfortable sensation deep in his brain, with a warm current flowing through his body.
“System, open my character attributes.”
“Tamer: Mu Liang.
Stamina: 6.
Speed: 4.3.
Strength: 5.
Spirit: 8.7.
Lifespan: 24 years/100 years.
Taming Points: 0. (refreshes daily, accumulates)
Evolution Points: 0.
Ability: Earth Spike (Level 1)
(Normal human base stats: 1)
…
Tamed Beast: Rock-armored Turtle (Level 1).
Talent: Earth Spike (Level 1).”
Mu Liang was stunned after reviewing the attribute panel.
His physical attributes had all been enhanced, and his lifespan had reached 100 years.
If the Rock-armored Turtle evolved continuously, could his lifespan reach a thousand years? Or even ten thousand years?
It wasn’t impossible to think so, considering the Taming Points refreshed daily, allowing him to tame new animals. As long as he kept inheriting new talents, his lifespan and stats would continue to improve.
“What kind of ability is Earth Spike?”
Since there was no introduction on the panel, Mu Liang decided to try it himself.
He activated Earth Spike with his mind, and the ground several meters away began to rise, with sharp, palm-sized rocks protruding.
The Rock-armored Turtle tilted its head, its emerald-green eyes looking at the sharp rock spikes in confusion.
“The power is decent, useful for a surprise attack on an enemy’s feet, it could incapacitate someone.”
“If you knock someone to the ground and then follow up with Earth Spike, it would definitely be a lethal strike.”
Mu Liang, with his military training, thought about how to best use the ability he had gained.
He checked the human attribute panel and saw that activating the ability consumed stamina and mental energy.
“I can use it about six times before exhausting my stamina.”
“Conservatively, I should use it only three times, to leave some energy for emergencies.”
Mu Liang immediately understood the limit.
He now pondered another issue—how to obtain items containing energy, as this was key to strengthening the Rock-armored Turtle.
The goal was set: evolve the Rock-armored Turtle to the level of a Sacred Beast, the Black Tortoise!
“Mu Liang, you’re an Awakened, then how did you faint that day?” Minuo suddenly looked up and asked.
“I was bitten by a poisonous fierce beast.” Mu Liang revealed the excuse he had prepared.
He couldn’t expose his identity as a traveler, and no matter who it was, he wouldn’t reveal that.
“Then, after healing, are you leaving?” Minuo asked with a disappointed tone.
After thinking for a while, the girl also figured it out.
Mu Liang was an Awakened; the question of whether he would stay or not had already been answered when he kept avoiding her question.
“Yes, I will leave.” Mu Liang lightly nodded.
No matter when, there would come a day he would leave the camp.
Only by going outside could he tame new animals and obtain items containing energy.
Minuo bit her lower lip, her voice tinged with bitterness as she asked, “When will you leave?”
“Two days from now.” Mu Liang decided to stay for two more days.
His body had been strengthened and fully recovered, even becoming stronger.
The reason for staying two more days was to see if he could find any items containing energy within the camp.
“So soon? Can’t you stay a few more days?”
Minuo looked as though she was about to cry but held back her tears, gazing at Mu Liang pleadingly.
“Didn’t you forget? The taxes are due in three days.” Mu Liang raised his hand to wipe the charcoal ash from the girl’s cheek.
The girl had disguised herself as a boy, smearing some charcoal ash on her face, then wrapping her head with cloth and wearing oversized ragged clothes.
“I’ll go catch small lizards. You have to trust me.” Minuo tightly gripped Mu Liang’s hand, urgently promising.
“Then let me ask you a question.”
Mu Liang gently asked, “If two days from now, would you come with me?”
“I would…” Minuo stopped midway.
The girl remembered the words her sister said before leaving: “Wait for me to come back and find you.”
“You don’t have to answer me now. Tell me your answer two days from now.” Mu Liang softly reassured her.
They had only known each other for five days, so asking the girl to leave her long-time home and wander with him was a bit unreasonable.
“Mm.” Minuo lightly nodded, her face scrunched up as her mind was in turmoil.
Should she go with Mu Liang? Or stay and wait for her sister?
If she missed one, they might never meet again.
If she missed one, she might never see her sister again.
