Villain of the urban TV/Movie Time-Travel - Chapter 32
Chapter 32: Pushing for Marriage
At the dinner table, Lin Jia and Yang Yu playfully bickered, making Lin’s parents feel at ease about their relationship.
“So, have you two thought about when to get married? You know, our Jia Jia isn’t getting any younger. If you keep delaying…” Lin’s mother finally asked the question she cared about most.
“Mom!! Will you ever stop? It’s his first time here, and you’re already like this. Besides, I’m not even thirty yet! Why are you more anxious than I am?” Lin Jia protested.
Lin’s mother frowned. “Look at your uncle’s daughter, Xiao Li—she’s two years younger than you, and her kid is already running around.”
“Every time we have a family gathering, relatives ask me, ‘Why isn’t Jia Jia married yet? Do you want us to introduce someone?’ I’m running out of excuses! I can’t even show my face anymore,” she sighed, full of complaints.
Yang Yu quickly reassured her, “Don’t worry, Uncle and Auntie. Lin Jia and I have already talked about it—we’ll definitely get married this year.”
Hearing this, Lin Jia’s parents became even more satisfied with him.
Lin Jia blushed. “Who said I agreed to marry you? Shameless.”
Lin’s mother chuckled. “Look at her, still acting shy at this age.”
“I think Xiao Yang is a responsible man—much better than that Meng guy,” she added.
“Mom! What are you saying?” Lin Jia shot her a glare.
She couldn’t believe her mother mentioned Meng Yun right in front of Yang Yu. She silently cursed her mom for being so careless.
Realizing her slip, Lin’s mother looked a little embarrassed.
Yang Yu, however, remained unfazed. “The past is the past. Everyone has one, right?”
“Exactly! Well said, Xiao Yang,” Lin’s mother quickly agreed.
With that, they continued their meal in a cheerful atmosphere. Lin’s father barely spoke, leaving most of the conversation to his wife.
After dinner, Lin’s mother openly suggested that Yang Yu stay in Lin Jia’s room.
Later that night, after washing up, Yang Yu lay in bed with Lin Jia in his arms. Feeling his hands start to wander, Lin Jia shot him a glare.
“Behave yourself! If my parents hear anything, I won’t be able to face them,” she warned.
“What’s there to be afraid of? I’ll be gentle. Besides, Mom already let us sleep in the same room—she knows what’s up.” Yang Yu smirked.
With her parents just next door and the house’s poor soundproofing, Lin Jia was adamant about refusing. But after some back-and-forth, Yang Yu still got his way.
The next morning, after breakfast, Lin’s father went to the park to play chess.
Yang Yu casually sat on the couch watching TV, but Lin Jia was on edge. Her mother had been giving her strange looks all morning, making her want to disappear into the ground.
At first, she had tried her best to stay quiet last night, but as things went on, she lost control. She had even forgotten they were in her family home, and the noise… well, let’s just say even the neighbors might have heard.
Annoyed, she took it out on Yang Yu, pinching his waist several times.
Lin’s mother, smiling, sat down beside Yang Yu. “Xiao Yang, you weren’t just saying that about the wedding last night to make me happy, were you?”
“Of course not. If Lin Jia agrees, I’d marry her right now,” Yang Yu answered without hesitation.
Lin’s mother beamed. “Wonderful! I’ve been waiting for this day. I can’t wait to have grandkids! You two will be busy with work, but don’t worry, I’ll take care of the baby.”
“Mom! You make it sound like I’m desperate to get married,” Lin Jia huffed.
Ignoring her, Lin’s mother continued eyeing Yang Yu with increasing approval.
“So, do you have any specific plans? I can help make the arrangements,” she asked eagerly.
“Actually, Auntie, why don’t we leave everything to you? Whatever customs and traditions you follow, including the dowry, we’ll respect them all,” Yang Yu said sincerely.
Lin’s mother waved a hand dismissively. “Jia Jia is our only daughter. As long as you two are happy and don’t fight, that’s enough for me. No need for dowries—just a simple gathering with close family and friends will do. I know how hard it is for young people to build a life in the big city.”
“That won’t do. You only get married once—I want Lin Jia to have a grand wedding,” Yang Yu insisted.
Lin’s mother clapped her hands. “Great! I’ll notify the relatives and arrange a formal engagement. Then, we’ll pick an auspicious date and get you two married as soon as possible.”
Lin Jia, stunned, stared at them. In just a few sentences, they had decided her wedding—without even asking her!
“Hey! Aren’t you two going to ask for my opinion?” she protested.
