Chapter 2 How Can Your Brother Lie with His Eyes Wide Open?
“You wouldn’t want your parents to find out about this, would you?”
As soon as Qi Lin got into the car, he casually retrieved a pack of 1916 cigarettes from the side storage compartment. He skillfully pulled out a cigarette, sniffed it lightly at the tip, placed it in his mouth, lit it, and then exhaled a leisurely smoke ring.
In his past life, after his family went bankrupt, Qi Lin had been so poor he could barely afford food, let alone luxury cigarettes like 1916. Now, having been given a second chance at life, Qi Lin understood how to cherish what he had.
In the enclosed air-conditioned space, the cigarette smoke made Wang Siling squint uncomfortably, though her delicate face froze in surprise for a moment.
The tone in Qi Lin’s voice didn’t sound like a negotiation—it carried a clear sense of threat.
“I don’t want that,” she replied.
But knowing she was in the wrong, Wang Siling could only nod meekly. Her family’s financial situation was modest. Her parents worked hard to put both her and her brother through school.
If they found out she had scratched someone’s luxury car and might need to pay a hefty sum in compensation, they’d surely be devastated.
“If you don’t want that, then agree to my terms. As long as you comply, I can waive the compensation fee,” Qi Lin said, flicking his cigarette ash with a faint smile.
In his words, Qi Lin had planted a verbal trap.
“I can waive it,” but he hadn’t specified whether it was a partial or complete waiver.
“What are your terms?”
Though only a high school sophomore, Wang Siling was sharp and perceptive.
“Agree to my terms” wasn’t exactly a comforting phrase. The undertone of coercion was crystal clear.
Realizing this, Wang Siling grew visibly tense.
“Siling, has anyone ever told you that you’re very cute and pretty?”
Qi Lin’s eyes swept over her, a smile playing on his lips.
“What… what do you want?”
Qi Lin’s words made his intentions unmistakable. Wang Siling froze in fear, shrinking towards the car window like a frightened rabbit.
“Nothing much. Didn’t you scratch my car? Just give me a kiss, and I’ll waive the compensation fee.”
Qi Lin, like a cunning wolf, finally revealed his sharp claws. Hearing Qi Lin’s proposition, Wang Siling’s face went blank with shock. She wasn’t unused to being admired.
There were boys like Yu Chen and others who sent her love letters. But every one of them had been respectful, confessing their feelings and waiting for her response. This was the first time someone had openly threatened her, demanding a kiss as compensation.
Terrified, Wang Siling shook her head repeatedly.
“No way!”
“Why not?”
Qi Lin stubbed out his cigarette in the ashtray.
“My parents don’t allow me to date. They said I can only start dating in college,” Wang Siling said, her voice trembling with the hint of tears.
“What era do we live in now? And you’re still so obedient to your parents?”
“Besides, I’m not asking to date you. I’m just discussing compensation. Aren’t you overthinking things a bit?”
Qi Lin raised his hand and placed it on her shoulder.
“Ah!”
Wang Siling flinched, quickly shrugging off his hand. Her face showed disbelief.
He didn’t want to date her—he just wanted to take advantage of her? What kind of normal guy would say such a thing?
“Brother Qi Lin, aren’t you friends with my brother? You wouldn’t bully your friend’s sister, right?”
“And… and my brother always told me that Brother Qi Lin is a kind, honorable, and righteous person. So what you said earlier must have been a joke, right?”
Wang Siling was on the verge of tears as she tried to stay composed. She discreetly reached for the door handle, hoping to open the door, but it was futile.
The doors had been locked from the inside by Qi Lin, and unless he allowed it, there was no way for her to open them. Another attempt at moral blackmail?
Hearing her words, Qi Lin couldn’t help but laugh.
In his past life, Wang Siling had scratched his car as well. Because she was Wang Cheng’s sister, Qi Lin hadn’t pursued the matter.
But what happened after that? Wang Cheng had treated him with nothing but scorn and betrayal. Now, in this new life, Qi Lin wouldn’t make the same naive mistake again.
“It’s precisely because you’re my good friend’s sister that we’re even closer, don’t you think?”
“Just a spoiled, good-for-nothing rich kid—bullying others is my favorite hobby. Sunshine and kindness? They’ve got nothing to do with me.”
As Qi Lin spoke, he reached out once again to hold Wang Siling’s delicate, pale hand, which she had just pulled away. Her hand was cool, soft as if boneless, with a faint layer of sweat in the palm from her nervousness.
The moment Qi Lin grabbed her hand, Wang Siling panicked and tried to pull it back.
“Think carefully before making your decision. When the time comes, there’ll be no room for negotiation about the compensation,” Qi Lin said calmly.
Wang Siling’s face froze, her expression filled with grievance, though she no longer dared to move her hand.
After all, the 12,000 yuan repair fee was far beyond what a high school sophomore could manage.
“Brother Qi Lin, actually… I already have a boyfriend,” Wang Siling said through gritted teeth, hoping to drop a bombshell that would make Qi Lin let her go.
“A boyfriend? You mean that hot-headed little brat?”
Qi Lin chuckled nonchalantly as he toyed with her small hand.
Wang Siling’s cheeks flushed, her expression growing increasingly uneasy as she gave a faint, reluctant nod.
