Chapter 35: From Now On, Call It “Fatty”

When Nan Qinli saw that the Pokémon Chen Nian had caught was a Dragonite, she was completely stunned.

Originally, she had assumed that Chen Nian would return empty-handed from his solo trip to catch a Pokémon. After all, he had gone out alone without any Pokémon of his own—how could he possibly capture one unless he stumbled upon a docile or defenseless creature like a Magikarp?

She had even considered that if Chen Nian came back disappointed, she would give him the Pokémon that had grown up with her since childhood or ask her mother to help him get a starter Pokémon.

But she never expected Chen Nian to bring back such an incredible surprise.

A Dragonite!

A Pokémon that could stand at the very pinnacle of strength in the future… Chen Nian’s luck was just too amazing!

Poking Dragonite’s soft, round belly, Nan Qinli asked curiously:

“Brother Chen Nian, does this Dragonite have a name? What should I call him?”

“I haven’t named him yet… How about calling him Fatty? Or maybe Chubby Two?”

Hearing the names Chen Nian suggested, Nan Qinli’s face darkened.

“That won’t do! Dragonite looks so powerful—how can you give him such a lame name?”

Dragonite himself broke into a cold sweat.

If he really ended up with a name like Fatty or Chubby Two, he’d lose all dignity as a Dragonite.

Seeing Nan Qinli’s disapproval, Chen Nian chuckled.

“Didn’t you name your Snorlax Pudgy?”

“Look, my Dragonite is also chubby—isn’t Chubby Two perfect? When we go out together with Pudgy and Chubby Two, we’ll look even more like a family!”

“No, no! Dragonite isn’t fat at all—he’s adorable! You can’t call him Chubby Two… Hmm, Brother Chen Nian, what about Moe Moe? He looks so round and cute…”

Dragonite nearly fainted upon hearing Nan Qinli’s suggestion.

At first, he had hoped the girl would give him a cool, imposing name—but Moe Moe?!

If he were stuck with that name, his fellow Dragonites would never let him live it down!

Dragonite grumbled at Nan Qinli, as if trying to convey that he wanted a more badass name.

Nan Qinli seemed to understand his meaning. Tilting her head cutely, she thought for a moment before saying:

“Then let’s call him—”

“Actually, forget it. Let’s not name Dragonite for now. By the way, Qinli, you came here alone—where’s Pudgy? Did you leave him at home?”

“Yeah… Pudgy ate all my snacks, so I punished him by not letting him go out. Oh, Brother Chen Nian, how did you meet Dragonite?”

“I was traveling out of town when I ran into this Dragonite. We talked for a while, and I promised to find him a mate in the future, so he decided to come with me.”

Before Nan Qinli could fully process this, Chen Nian tossed out two more Poké Balls, releasing a pair of Cosmoem.

The two little Cosmoem were thrilled to be in a new environment. They fluttered around Chen Nian and Nan Qinli curiously, examining one person, then the other.

Seeing two more unfamiliar (and adorable) Pokémon appear before her, Nan Qinli was even more shocked.

Before she could ask, Chen Nian explained:

“They’re called… well, just call them Cosmoem. I found them in a remote area—they’re probably an undiscovered Pokémon species. These little guys aren’t strong in battle, but they love to play and explore. They actually hopped into my Poké Balls on their own.”

After hearing his explanation, Nan Qinli didn’t press further.

Her big, curious eyes studied the two Cosmoem.

Since they looked so cute, it didn’t take long for Nan Qinli to get along with them—soon, they were all playing together.

After playing with the Cosmoem for a while, Nan Qinli grew tired. Chen Nian recalled Dragonite and the two Cosmoem into their Poké Balls, then turned to her and said:

“So, all in all, this trip turned out pretty lucky for me!”
