I Am the Fated Villain - Chapter 269
Chapter 269: The ups and downs of the plot development, the harvest method of people with great luck
“Who is this, bro?… What a grand entrance… Even the old man in white from True Immortal Academy looked a lot more deferential.”
Qing Xiao Yi’s eyes widened, shocked by the scene. It was her first time witnessing the arrival of such a remarkable young prodigy.
Dragons were pulling the carriage! She couldn’t help but envy and yearn for what she saw.
“Judging by the ‘Gu’ character on it, it must be from the Ancient Immortal Gu family!”
The young man named Qing Feng couldn’t help but feel envy and reverence in his eyes.
“People are born like real dragons above the heavens, unlike us, mere humble beings of the earth… Don’t stare at him, Xiao Yi, it might come off as disrespectful.”
Qing Feng quickly cautioned, prompting his sister to lower her gaze; it would be too conspicuous to keep staring.
“The one from the Gu family… is it the young master Gu Changge, who’s now hailed as the strongest in the younger generation! I’ve heard plenty of rumors about him…”
Qing Xiao Yi’s eyes brimmed with yearning and reverence, feeling like they were characters from a different world.
His presence alone gave off an unparalleled aura as if the world revolved around him.
The other party belonged to the immortals of the Nine Heavens, while they were merely insignificant ants in comparison.
“Young Master Changge!”
At that moment, he descended in front of the mountain gate of True Immortal Academy.
The older white man responsible for age verification was initially stunned and a bit taken aback but soon wore a smile and approached with an amiable demeanour.
The terrifying divine pressure from the nine-headed dragon swept in all directions, causing many young elites to pale. Their expressions considerably changed once more. They hadn’t expected Gu Changge’s arrival to be so grand.
A nine-headed sacred realm dragon was pulling the carriage, and even the weakest among them boasted quasi-sacred realm cultivation!
Then, Su Qingge lifted the curtain of the white jade carriage.
Gu Changge stepped out, his expression warm as he nodded slightly towards the white-clothed older man before him, smiling.
“Changge greets the elder.”
“Young Master Changge, no need for formalities.”
When the older man in white heard Gu Changge address him as an elder, his smile deepened, and his expression became even more amiable. Though his rank within True Immortal Academy might not match that of a true elder, being addressed as such by Gu Changge left him feeling a bit overwhelmed. In the eyes of the academy’s younger generation, Gu Changge’s stature was unmatched. Had they been forewarned of his arrival, elders and other venerable figures would have undoubtedly greeted him in person.
This realization left the older man momentarily dazed, finding it hard to believe that this was Gu Changge’s arrival. Yet, in the younger generation, few could command such reverence.
“Young Master Changge has traveled millions of miles. You must be weary. Why not rest at the mountain gate?” The older man spoke respectfully, unsettling the young elites gathered there. His demeanor had not been so respectful towards them earlier.
“What do you mean by ‘weary’? Didn’t he see us coming? Has he been waiting long?” they muttered, feeling the frustration of being overlooked while Gu Changge received such special treatment.
Accompanied by beautiful women within the white jade chariot, they couldn’t help but envy the comfort they must have experienced during the journey. Such preferential treatment was exasperating.
Despite their reluctance to endure this “queueing” ordeal, they dared not voice their objections.
“Now, it’s time for the age verification, correct?” Gu Changge’s demeanor remained composed as he disregarded the reactions of the young elites behind him, focusing his gaze on the ancient mirror held by the older man in white.
Behind him, Su Qingge stood silently, her fair face pale, her eyes crystal clear, exuding an aura of quiet beauty akin to that of an immortal fairy. Her followers, though calm in expression, radiated an undeniable presence.
“No need, Young Master Changge only needs to present his points. Age verification is too cumbersome,” the old man in white hastily interjected upon hearing these words, waving his hand and smiling, skipping the step altogether.
For Gu Changge’s retinue, whether any of them exceeded fifty years of age mattered little. Given Gu Changge’s status and strength, True Immortal Academy was willing to bend its rules in his favor.
Observing this scene, many young elites couldn’t help but feel a twinge of frustration at the evident preferential treatment.
“When will we ever have such privilege…” Qing Xiao Yi murmured amidst the crowd, her envy palpable.
Her brother Qing Feng shared her sentiment, his eyes filled with fascination. “Don’t dream about it, Young Master Changge is a figure beyond our reach…”
“In that case, I extend my gratitude to the elders,” Gu Changge responded with a slight smile, accepting the gesture to expedite the process.
Soon enough, he presented ample points earned from slaying heavenly extinction creatures, with many of his followers, including Su Qingge, also boasting substantial points.
During his time on the Heavenly Extinction Battlefield in Southern Heaven, Gu Changge had ventured to its deepest reaches, dispatching far fewer heavenly extinction creatures than those before him. He simply selected some of the more formidable corpses to exchange for points.
However, upon entering the mountain gate of True Immortal Academy, Gu Changge opted not to proceed further. He halted, wearing a slightly enigmatic expression on his face.
“What’s the matter, master?” Su Qingge inquired curiously, looking at him.
“Let’s see if there are any promising talents this time,” Gu Changge remarked casually, his gaze scanning the numerous young elites below. Eventually, he paused on a beautiful girl with her head bowed and a patch on her long skirt.
Another fortunate individual. The system hadn’t indicated, so she likely wasn’t a luck-imbued individual like Jiang Chuchu and others, but her significant luck value, even tinged with lavender, was still remarkable. Gu Changge’s expression shifted slightly, touched by the revelation, yet he remained silent, continuing to observe.
What made this girl so special? Why was she blessed with such extraordinary luck?
Soon, as per the protocol, Qing Xiao Yi and Qing Feng stepped forward for their age verification.
“One is thirteen, and the other is seventeen,” the old man in white reported.
“It’s just that I suspect you’re trying to deceive me with this cultivation level. One has never practiced cultivation, and the other lacks spiritual roots altogether. What’s your game?” The older man’s tone turned curt, feeling as though the siblings were there to mock him.
While he acknowledged the girl’s potential might be exceptional, she had never engaged in cultivation, and her strength was severely lacking. As for the boy, where had this raggedy urchin come from?
The older man’s words drew the attention of many bystanders, their gazes shifting with mockery, sarcasm, and curiosity. They were no exception in a world where people relished in others’ misfortunes. Just moments ago, many had observed the shabby siblings with a hint of disdain.
Surveying the crowd, the hostile stares caused Qing Xiao Yi’s complexion to pale, her head involuntarily bowing as fear and unease crept over her. Yet, at that moment, a young man named Qing Feng stepped forward, gritting his teeth.
“Elder, though my sister hasn’t cultivated, her strength surpasses some cultivators…”
Puff! Before he could utter a word, laughter erupted around him, causing his cheeks to burn with embarrassment. He wanted to shout and demand why they were laughing, but fear held him back.
“You’re mocking me!” The older man’s voice grew stern, showing no sign of belief. Despite the girl’s seemingly extraordinary appearance, he was convinced the opportunity had passed. True Immortal Academy existed to nurture true immortals, not to teach beginners from scratch.
“Elder, I speak the truth, I wouldn’t dare deceive you. Please consider my sister,” Qing Feng pleaded, dumbfounded by the unexpected turn of events. They had traveled thousands of miles, overcoming numerous obstacles, only to face rejection.
“You poor siblings, the old man has no interest. If you’re keen, just leave,” the old man in white sighed, his tone tinged with helplessness. If not for Gu Changge’s presence, he might have acted differently.
“Elder, please, give my sister a chance…” Qing Feng implored, gritting his teeth as he knelt.
“You…” The old man’s expression shifted once more, sighing as he continued, “Then let me ask you, have you slain any Heavenly Extinction creatures? To secure a place in True Immortal Academy, you must have killed at least three or more true gods. Can you meet this requirement?”
The weight of the older man’s question left Qing Feng reeling, his mind going blank as his complexion drained of color.
“Brother… let’s head back,” Qing Xiao Yi said softly, grasping Qing Feng’s sleeve.
Before arriving, they had been clueless about entering True Immortal Academy. They assumed it would be like joining any ordinary sect, with talent and age being the only criteria. They were painfully naive.
“Isn’t there another chance?” Qing Feng pressed, reluctant to give up.
“No, let’s go back. Don’t force the old man to expel us,” the old man in white’s voice was cold and unwavering.
Though many young elites remained silent, their eyes held a mixture of mockery and pity towards the siblings. It was evident these two didn’t belong here, and some harbored violent thoughts, wanting to teach them a harsh lesson. True Immortal Academy wasn’t meant for people like them; stooping to ridicule would only tarnish their status.
“Little nobodies…” muttered a nearby group of young elites, their disdain palpable.
Qing Feng and Qing Xiao Yi trembled, gritting their teeth as fear and uncertainty filled their hearts.
“Elder…” A warm voice cut through the tension, breaking the silence at the tranquil mountain gate.
“Young Master Changge!” The older man in white’s smile was quick, his gaze shifting towards the source of the voice. All eyes followed suit, including those of Qing Feng and Qing Xiao Yi, fraught with unease. They couldn’t comprehend why Gu Changge had intervened.
Gu Changge’s gaze settled on them as he spoke calmly, “I’ll vouch for these siblings. I happen to be in need of two bodyguards.”
Hiss!
“What…” The white-clothed older man’s eyes widened, and he audibly gasped in disbelief. The notion of the siblings serving as bodyguards for Gu Changge was beyond comprehension.
Even the young elites gathered at the mountain gate stared in shock, their eyes wide with disbelief. Being appointed as Gu Changge’s bodyguards implied a relationship closer than mere followers, a privilege that seemed unattainable even for them.
The sudden events left many envious and resentful, their gazes towards Qing Feng and Qing Xiao Yi shifting from mockery to astonishment.
Even Gu Changge’s followers appeared taken aback by the announcement.
“What… What…” Words failed many, their astonishment palpable.
Qing Feng and Qing Xiao Yi were equally stunned, struggling to process the unexpected turn of events. It felt as though a whirlwind of surprise had struck them.
To be appointed as Gu Changge’s bodyguards was a prospect they had never dared to imagine. The disparity between their worlds and Gu Changge’s seemed impossible. Yet here he was, offering them this unprecedented opportunity, instilling an overwhelming gratitude in Qing Feng’s heart.
Qing Xiao Yi timidly lifted her gaze to the handsome young man nearby. Her heart filled with awe and gratitude.
At that moment, in their hearts, Gu Changge seemed to radiate a divine aura, as pure and sacred as an immortal.
“Young Master Changge, selecting your bodyguards is no trifling matter. They must be formidable, capable of surpassing their peers. What qualifications do these siblings possess to serve as your sword-bearers?” the white-clad old man urged softly, taken aback by Gu Changge’s unexpected proclamation.
Gu Changge simply shook his head, responding, “It’s not easy for them to reach this point, displaying the perseverance of mortals. How many cultivators can endure such a journey?”
“If True Immortal Academy wishes to make an exception, I am willing to bear the consequences,” Gu Changge continued calmly.
The older man’s expression shifted slightly at Gu Changge’s words. “Young Master Changge, there’s no need for such talk. How could we hold you responsible for such a trivial matter?”
“Then I’ll rely on the elder’s assistance,” Gu Changge replied with a nod, his demeanor unchanged.
With Gu Changge’s intervention, the older man couldn’t allow Qing Xiao Yi and Qing Feng to leave. Envious glances from the other young elites reinforced the resolution.
As the matter neared resolution, Qing Feng and Qing Xiao Yi found themselves dumbfounded by the ease with which Gu Changge had resolved the situation. It felt surreal, like a dream.
This was the power of authority. Even True Immortal Academy was willing to bend its rules.
“Thank you, Young Master Changge, for your kindness today!” Qing Feng expressed with nervous excitement. He was about to kneel in gratitude alongside his sister, but Gu Changge’s frown halted them. An unseen force prevented them from kneeling.
He said calmly, “A man has pride beneath his knees; he shouldn’t kneel so easily.”
“I don’t require you to kneel before me either,” he added, his tone still even, devoid of any fluctuations.
Despite the flatness of his tone, Qing Xiao Yi and Qing Feng felt even more grateful. Gu Changge’s noble status eclipsed that of the young elites present, yet he treated them with respect, not disdain. This kindness would be etched in their memories.
However, at that moment, from within the depths of True Immortal Academy, a divine light suddenly shot into the sky, permeating the air with an Immortal aura. Several terrifying auras followed, descending towards the mountain gate.
In the heavens, a group of elderly figures swiftly approached, their forms blurring within the void. Their ancient visages exuded a formidable aura, hinting at their unimaginable cultivation levels.
The spectacle left everyone in awe, the young elites at the mountain gate craning their necks to behold the newcomers.
“Greetings, elders!” the old man in white saluted respectfully as the group arrived.
“Are you from the Gu family?” one of the elder figures inquired, casting a surprised glance at Gu Changge. They hadn’t expected him to arrive without first acknowledging them.
“Changge greets the elders,” Gu Changge responded with a slight nod, his expression unchanged.
“It seems the rumors underestimated your strength…” another elder remarked, their gazes lingering on Gu Changge with admiration as if beholding a precious treasure.
“However, our purpose today does not concern you…” an elder in a gray robe, eyes flickering with golden thunder, interjected with a smile.
Gu Changge’s surprise melted into a smile. “That’s intriguing.”
Then, amidst the shocked gazes of onlookers, several venerable elders with incomprehensible cultivation levels focused their attention on the pair of beggar-like siblings.
“An immortal body… Indeed, this is the type. The Heavenly Sword family’s deductions are accurate,” one elder remarked, nodding in agreement.
“We’ve arrived at an opportune moment. Let’s discuss who will mentor them later,” another elder said.
Their collective gaze settled on Qing Xiao Yi, each harboring different expressions—wonder, contemplation, and more.
This turn of events stunned everyone, including Qing Feng, again, their senses reeling as if petrified. Eyes nearly dropped to the ground, and speech escaped them momentarily.
Indeed, things were spiraling unexpectedly. No one foresaw that this unassuming pair of beggars possessed a unique constitution that would capture the attention of several elders, prompting their visit to the mountain gate.
Even if Gu Changge hadn’t intervened earlier, it seemed likely that the brother and sister would have been retained. After all, these were the faithful elders of True Immortal Academy.
Gu Changge himself was taken aback. “I didn’t expect this turn of events,” he admitted.
“Your generosity, Young Master Changge, won’t be forgotten by us siblings,” Qing Feng expressed, acknowledging Gu Changge’s earlier intervention with gratitude.
“Thank you, Young Master Changge,” Qing Xiao Yi murmured, her demeanor timid yet appreciative as she stole glances at Gu Changge.
Upon hearing their gratitude, Gu Changge smiled. “There’s no need for thanks; you deserve this opportunity.”
“However, being mentored by the elders holds more promise than serving as my bodyguards,” he added. In truth, he had anticipated this outcome long ago.
These elders hadn’t come for him but for the girl Qing Xiao Yi. Gu Changge had foreseen this.
Her remarkable luck made it inconceivable for her to be denied entry to True Immortal Academy. His earlier actions and words were merely to gauge the fluctuations in her luck points and, incidentally, to stir up some commotion.
Though her luck wasn’t on par with the Luck Child’s, Gu Changge saw her as another source of potential gain—a different approach to reaping the harvest.
