I Spread Pokemon All Over the World - Chapter 17
Chapter 17: Give me a dragon-type Pokemon!
“You’re asking if there might be other reasons, right?” Guxin instantly grasped what Lin Sheng was trying to convey.
Lin Sheng nodded. If they were to consider Diancie as a fully leveled boss-level Pokémon, then Lin Sheng believed that their current Pokémon were absolute rookies. However, rookies shouldn’t be able to withstand attacks from other rookies so many times. It didn’t make logical sense especially when its Blaze ability enhanced Vulpix’s follow-up Ember attacks.
“This relates to the concept of type matchups. You’ve probably noticed that Pokémon have different types, like my Diancie.”
“Rock and Fairy types, we checked the Pokédex,” Chu Kelian chimed in, holding Charmander and blinking her big eyes excitedly.
“That’s right, Diancie is a Rock and Fairy type. In total, there are eighteen different types that Pokémon can have.”
Guxin paused, then chuckled as if amused by the memory.
“Eighteen types?”
The three of them, Bai Qianqian, Chu Kelian, and Lin Sheng, were astonished. Goodness, eighteen types? That was unbelievably diverse.
“Boss, what are those eighteen types?” Lin Sheng asked, amazed.
While he guessed that there might be a few types, given Guxin’s previous mention of viewing Pokémon’s types as their elemental essence, he didn’t expect eighteen types.
Bai Qianqian and Chu Kelian were also extremely curious.
“Normal, Fighting, Flying, Poison, Ground, Rock, Bug, Ghost, Steel, Fire, Water, Ice, Grass, Electric, Psychic, Dragon, Dark, and Fairy.”
Guxin listed all eighteen Pokémon types, each one clear in his memory.
“Ghost? There’s really a Ghost type?”
“So, there really is a Dragon type?”
“And how about Dark and Fairy?”
The reactions of Bai Qianqian, Chu Kelian, and Lin Sheng differed. Especially Chu Kelian, her eyes lit up at the mention of a Dragon type.
“It’s the Ghost type, not actual ghosts.”
“And yes, Dragon type is indeed real. I mentioned before that one of Charmander’s final evolutionary forms has Dragon-type characteristics.”
“As for Dark and Fairy types, I can’t describe them accurately in a few words. You’ll learn about them later when you encounter Pokémon of those types.”
Guxin explained each type like a patient teacher answering curious students’ questions. It really wasn’t easy. They needed to work on creating a manual for Pokémon trainers.
“And as for why Charmander seemed resilient to Vulpix’s Ember attacks, it’s because of type interactions and resistances between types.”
Guxin continued, addressing Lin Sheng’s earlier question.
Upon hearing this, both Lin Sheng and Bai Qianqian had a sudden realization.
“Charmander is a Fire type, and Fire types have resistance to Fire-type attacks, which is why Ember didn’t cause much damage to Charmander.”
Guxin explained, his expression somewhat amused as he glanced at Chu Kelian, who was listening with great interest.
So, Charmander really must have a hard time of it. It endured Vulpix’s Ember attacks so much that it lost the ability to battle…
“Hey, hey, hey! Boss, your expression is quite rude, you know! It’s this little rascal’s fault for being so shameless! It can’t face my Charmander head-on!”
Unexpectedly, Chu Kelian immediately understood the meaning behind Guxin’s expression and stood up angrily.
“Hmm, hmm!” Guxin nodded in agreement.
So nonchalant! Chu Kelian clenched her small fist, irritated!
Thirty years in the east, thirty years in the west! It may not have to be that long.
Chu Kelian blinked, realizing that she might have misunderstood something.
“So, you mean my Wartortle?”
Bai Qianqian lost in her thoughts about her Squirtle, hadn’t even noticed her friend’s previous question. “That’s right, Wartortle is a Water type, which has an advantage over Fire. Given your current level, Wartortle should be the strongest among your three Pokémon.”
“Wartortle, Wartortle!” Squirtle chimed in proudly, coming out just at the right moment to make its presence known.
Lin Sheng: “…”
“Boss, is it possible to purchase more than one Pokémon from your shop?”
Abruptly, Chu Kelian asked Guxin.
“Of course, but all three of you have already received your free draws. If you wish to get more Pokémon, you must pay separately.”
Guxin blinked, feeling that Chu Kelian was looking especially beautiful.
“Money is not a problem! I want to draw again!”
Chu Kelian waved her hand dominantly. Those familiar with her might call her an “in-game purchase warrior.”
Sorry, she might be lacking in other things, but not money!
Bai Qianqian couldn’t help but smack her forehead. She knew her friend’s weakness had surfaced again.
“Please!”
Guxin handed his Pokédex to Chu Kelian with a firm tone. After all, this young lady was a major customer.
“Hmph! I’m drawing a Dragon-type directly!”
Chu Kelian wiped her hands dramatically on her shorts. There had to be a sense of ceremony.
Once she drew a Dragon-type, she would teach that fox that had been bullying her Charmander a lesson. How dare it be so arrogant just because of a Fire-type advantage!
Lin Sheng rubbed his chin, looking at Chu Kelian, who was about to draw a Pokémon, lost in thought. He also wanted to draw another one, but he was running low on pocket money. After all, he had borrowed money from his cousin for the Feebas.
His cousin…
Lin Sheng contemplated how he should ask his cousin for more money.
“Give me a Dragon-type, please…”
Chu Kelian pressed the “go” button with great seriousness, rapidly causing shadows to flicker across the Pokédex screen.
Bai Qianqian curiously leaned in, wondering what Pokémon Chu Kelian would draw this time.
“Dragon-types aren’t that easy to draw,” Guxin commented, shaking his head as he noticed Chu Kelian’s nervous expression. After all, dragons were dragons, right?
The shadow on the shop owner’s Pokédex screen quickly stabilized.
