Chapter 3: A System for Dummies

“This isn’t fair! We both stole food, so why does he get off scot-free while I have to do all this work?” Zeng Xiaoxian glared at Chen Yuze, who was playing innocent. His first thought was to give the guy a good beating, what a massive troublemaker! Did he think he could just screw people over without consequences?

Hu Yifei turned her head sharply, her expression dark as she stared at Teacher Zeng. “Oh, you have the nerve to complain? He’s a guest, what’s wrong with him eating a little? But you, what’s your excuse? Do we really need to spell it out for you?”

“As part of the bride’s family, can’t you at least try to save some face for them? Hurry up and go!!!” Without giving Zeng a chance to argue, Hu Yifei verbally pummeled him into submission. Left with no choice, Teacher Zeng could only rush out to help.

Watching this scene unfold, Chen Yuze shrank back and quickly slipped away. Who knew if Hu Yifei would fly into a rage next?

But Chen Yuze was overthinking it—Hu Yifei had no time to deal with him. She grabbed a communicator and started barking orders, throwing the whole place into chaos. Honestly, Chen Yuze suspected things might actually go smoother without her so-called “leadership.” Her commands only made everything worse! But voicing that thought was out of the question, unless he had a death wish.

Chen Yuze found another quiet corner and finally remembered his system. Earlier, it had gone completely silent, and with the tense atmosphere, he hadn’t had the chance to check it. If Hu Yifei noticed and hit him with her infamous Lion’s Roar, he’d be done for!

“System! System! Tomb Raiding System!” After calling out several times, he realized he’d been using the wrong name. Worse, his system wasn’t even intelligent, just a dumb, bare-bones interface with no AI assistant or system spirit. It looked like some cheap knockoff!

Checking the system notifications, he found three things: a Newbie Gift Pack, a Low-Grade Tomb Raiding Talisman, and a newly issued mission.

Clicking on the gift pack notification, a spatial backpack popped up, the kind seen in low-budget MMOs. It was embarrassingly basic, with only two slots: one holding the gift pack, the other containing a strange jade talisman (the so-called Low-Grade Tomb Raiding Talisman).

Ignoring the gift pack for now (it wasn’t going anywhere), Chen Yuze tapped the jade talisman. A description window popped up, and he nearly facepalmed.

“You went through the trouble of making a system, but couldn’t even design a decent interface? How hard is it to hire a UI artist? This is way easier than coding the system itself! What’s with this cheap MMO-style item description?!”

“A low-tier system is one thing, but did the aesthetic have to be this bad? At least the special effects aren’t terrible—oh wait, there are no special effects!” Chen Yuze silently roasted the system in his mind. What kind of garbage is this?! For some reason, he suddenly felt zero confidence in his so-called “system.”

Still, he forced himself to read the pop-up. The explanation was simple, followed by a long backstory about some ancient master forging the talisman—all of which he skipped. Useless fluff.

The key details were this:

The jade talisman acted like a ticket, granting access to a Tomb Raiding Elevator.

Entering the elevator would transport him to a tomb—but which tomb? Pure luck.

Low-grade talismans typically led to low-grade tombs (no surprises there).

Probably not even a single zombie inside, and the burial artifacts would be mediocre at best.

But there was more. Since it was a “ticket,” he could bring others, specifically, people from this world who gained the system’s approval. Any loot they stole could be brought back and sold here, either to the system or to people in the Love Apartment world.

The most surprising part? Despite being called a Tomb Raiding System, it felt more like an adventure system. Some tombs might’ve crumbled to dust over time, leaving no undead—just ruins ripe for exploration.

Most importantly, after each raid, they’d earn points based on performance, exchangeable for rewards: Body Enhancement Pills, Youth Elixirs, and more.

Completing a mission allowed him to request the next one (i.e., a new talisman). Talismans could also be bought with points, with higher-grade ones unlockable later (details still unknown).

Now, Chen Yuze had one burning question: Where the hell is this Tomb Raiding Elevator? An elevator? Really? Shouldn’t it be something cooler, like crushing the talisman to teleport?

Shaking off the thought, he opened the Newbie Gift Pack—time to see if the system lived up to its claims. If this pack was full of junk, he’d know exactly what kind of scam he’d gotten into.

He opened it manually (yes, manually). The only redeeming feature? The tiny box expanded to coffin-size upon opening. At least that was a decent effect.

Peering inside, Chen Yuze’s curiosity piqued. The contents weren’t overwhelming, but they weren’t shabby either.

In one corner, he found a Mojin Talisman—finally something useful.

A tattered book titled “Feng Shui Secrets” (a damaged copy, but ancient-looking). Into the backpack it went.

“Hmm?” Chen Yuze’s eyes lit up at the next finds:

Two silver M1911 pistols (with holsters).

Two AK-47 rifles.

Several ammo boxes.

A sleek black leather trench coat (men’s style, undeniably cool).

Four daggers, two longswords, a small box of antidote pills, and a Diamond-Thread Umbrella.

All in all, not bad for a starter pack.
