Chapter 24: Big Profit, Black Bird Ambush
Su Mu examined the last golden sub-attributes and let out a surprised exclamation.
[Sub-attributes: Gold Acquisition]
[Quality: Gold]
[Effect: Every time you mine minerals, you can obtain a certain amount of gold.]
Gold acquisition from mining—reasonable and highly beneficial.
“Too bad it’s not the most suitable sub-attributes, even for a gold-quality effect,” he murmured, frowning thoughtfully. “But gold might have construction value in the future. Collecting some won’t hurt.”
Without hesitation, Su Mu chose the final sub-attributes.
The gray pickaxe in his hand began to transform. In an instant, its dull appearance changed into a brilliant gold, its surface gleaming as if illuminated by sunlight.
[Name: Golden Pickaxe]
[Quality: Excellent]
[Level: 1]
[Sub-attributes: Gold Acquisition]
[Additional Effect: When mining energy stones, there is a 1% chance of getting an extra energy stone.]
[Description: With this, why would a miner need to mine anymore?]
Su Mu’s lips twitched at the description but wasted no time mulling it over. The World Blessing effect only had twenty-five minutes left, and the clock was ticking.
The pickaxe’s performance had seen a significant improvement. Its chance of yielding extra energy stones had jumped from a mere 0.1% to a full 1%—a tenfold increase. While the odds were still low, the potential payoff was now undeniable.
“Let’s put this upgrade to the test,” Su Mu said aloud, gripping the pickaxe tightly.
He struck the nearest energy stone with precision. With a satisfying crack, the surrounding stone shattered, exposing the glittering prize within. As he picked up the energy stone, a system notification rang in his mind.
[Obtained Energy Stone x2]
[Obtained Gold Nugget x2]
Su Mu’s eyes widened. Even items mined via sub-attributes benefit from the World Blessing’s doubling effect? Incredible.
He quickly opened his system storage to verify. Sure enough, two palm-sized gold nuggets glistened alongside the energy stones.
“This blessing is absurdly overpowered,” he muttered, a grin forming as he examined his haul.
Emboldened, Su Mu worked tirelessly, striking stone after stone with the pickaxe. Twenty minutes later, he had completely cleared out the mine. Without the upgraded pickaxe, the task would have taken more than twice as long.
When Su Mu opened his system backpack, his heart surged with excitement.
[Energy Stones: 924 pieces]
[Gold Nuggets: 540 pieces]
Jackpot.
Looking at the mountain of energy stones, Su Mu could hardly contain his glee. With these, I can upgrade my dwelling to level two and still have plenty to spare. Even the top players in this world likely don’t have this many energy stones.
He clenched his fists. “The World Blessing effect truly lives up to its name. But with only five minutes left, I won’t make it to the next area in time.”
After a brief moment of thought, Su Mu decided to spend the remaining time farming monsters at the entrance of the mine.
Pulling out the [Scarlet Spirit Orb], he felt a familiar urge to consume it. Its pull was undeniable, but he resisted. The orb’s allure for undead creatures proved even greater, as almost immediately, five skeleton dogs came charging at him.
“These again?” Su Mu sighed. “I’ve had enough of these, but double experience points make them worth the trouble.”
With practiced efficiency, he dispatched the skeleton dogs, reaping the bonus experience.
After placing the Scarlet Spirit Orb on the ground, Su Mu glanced around, muttering, “Don’t tell me this thing only attracts skeleton dogs. Give me something more challenging.”
As if on cue—or perhaps because of the orb’s power—he heard the sharp cry of a bird.
A black, monstrous bird circled above him, its eyes glinting with malice.
[Warning: The map warns you that a level 6 monster is preparing to attack the host from the sky.]
[The coordinates are marked on the map.]
Su Mu smirked. The [Level 3 Corrupted Wasteland Map] had proven its worth once again.
Before the bird could dive, Su Mu raised his Anti-Evil Crossbow, aiming at its anticipated flight path.
“An undead creature, huh? Let’s take it down in one shot.”
With practiced ease, he fired the crossbow, the bolt soaring through the air to meet its target.
