Chapter 2 The Mother-In-Law Gave An Entire Mountain Range!
Kyle City was located by the Ao Ke River in the Holy Continent. The geography of the land was flat with an abundance of land, which was convenient for transportation. As a hotspot for traffic, the cities along the way were very rich from the income of travelers.
Leaving Kyle City, Lynn and Lucy headed north towards the land where Lucy’s mother ruled. Lucy prepared plenty of food for the trip, along with the carriages necessary for travel. Of course, she also gave Lynn’s servants a ride.
Lucy and Lynn were sitting in their own carriage away from the servants, while covered in animal skins. They were in the very definition of luxury.
“It will take about seven days to get to mother’s land. If you feel bored, you can read a book for a while. I will prepare it for you.”
Lucy was obviously more lively after leaving Kyle City. She looked at Lynn while smiling softly. Interested in the books, Lynn picked one up. But something else came to mind.
“Did you tell Count Theresa about me?”
Earl Theresa, Lucy’s mother, was the Patriarch of the Frost Maple nobles. She controlled a large area of the northern part of the Holy Continent. Lucy smiled embarrassedly at the question.
“No. I just heard that you were going to be kicked out, so I came over anxiously. I only had enough time to prepare the carriage and supplies, so I have not told my mother about you yet.”
Lynn shook his head indifferently.
“I guess it will not go too smoothly then,” he pointed out while shaking his head indifferently. “I am a civilian now after all. In theory, I am tarnishing your reputation by even being in the same carriage as you.”
“If they disagree, do not worry about it. If you give me a year, I will most definitely come back to marry you.”
Lynn looked at Lucy with confidence. In one year, he would become a nobleman with riches as far as the eye could see! Lucy had chosen him when he was abandoned by his family. In response to her kindness, he will make her the envy of the entire world. Lucy blushed and nodded in response to Lynn’s resolution. Suddenly, Lynn smirked and sat next to her.
“Since I am already here,” begins Lynn, “could you allow me to absolutely tarnish your reputation?”
Lucy furiously blushed and replied to his declaration nervously.
“This…Will you wait until we were married? I swear, I am yours, but right now… I am a little scared. In the case that we have a baby… I would be alone for a year… By then it would be too late for you to join us.”
“You have too much confidence in me,” Lynn sighed.
Once he stopped talking, he touched Lucy’s head and rubbed her cat ears that were hidden in her hair. Lucy’s face turned red at his touch. She was an aristocrat with animal blood in her, yet her human blood was more dominant. Apart from her ears, there was nothing different from other humans.
The nobles in Kyle only knew of her identity, and no one had seen her beast ears. She only allowed Lynn to touch them casually. As an aristocrat with half animal blood, this showed how close she was to him. Half animal humans only allowed the people they loved to touch the parts of them that were different from a normal human.
Five days later.
Lynn and Lucy arrived at Frost Maple City. This city was noticeably much simpler than Kyle City, but it was also built sturdier. The wall was made out of blue bricks with no tiles on it, but it was strong and could take a beating. The tradeoff was that it was not gorgeous by any means.
The nobles in the northern part of the Holy continent were just like the wall. Many were part animal with unparalleled bravery and mastery of war. They also were rich in materials, but poor in terms of money.
Lynn and Lucy entered the city easily as Lucy was a well-known aristocrat there. Once they arrived at the main household, someone who looked like a housekeeper welcomed them both and escorted them to the main hall of the city. The main hall was simpler than Kyle’s, but it was bigger in size.
All the nobles took their seats once Lynn and Lucy arrived. There were two chairs that were not occupied, and were located at the front beside a blond-haired woman. The woman did not appear old. She looked like she was at most in her twenties. She wore armor that exuded a small presence of heroism, but that did not diminish her beauty. The woman was Lucy’s mother, Earl Theresa. Lynn and Lucy walked over to her and took their seats beside her. All the nobles looked at Lynn.
“Your Excellency Lynn, I heard that you failed to inherit the noble title,” inquires Earl Theresa.
“Yes.”
“Then you were not qualified to sit in this place,” instructs a noble.
“My fiancée told me that she would give her title to me,” Lynn calmly replied. No one had a response to this, so they remained silent.
Lynn noticed a rice dish on the table and began to eat it in an elegant manner. All of the nobles watched this without a word, yet their attitude was clear. They did not have a welcoming attitude towards Lynn. Theresa glanced at Lynn with her green gem like eyes.
“The nobles of Frost Maple City do not wish to give you Lucy’s title. You are a wise man. I believe you should understand this.”
“I know.”
“However I have not made a final decision. Can you give Lucy happiness? Can you control this entire Frost Maple City?”
“I can give her happiness. As for managing Frost Maple City, it would be a hundred times easier for me than to give Lucy happiness.”
Lynn had a tone full of confidence, causing all of the nobles to look at each other. The northern nobles were good at war. So, they favored Lynn’s arrogant tone but doubted his ability. Lucy was an only daughter. There were rumors among the city’s civilians that Lucy was an adopted child another nobleman.
Although, the reason that Earl Theresa had never seen a man next to Lucy was because she was too young. Yet this could not change the fact that Lucy was an only daughter with the sole right to inherit. If Lynn was recognized as her husband, he would inherit the title of Earl in the future.
This was not an honor and status that ordinary people could normally bear, causing the opposition from the nobles to be fierce. After much thought, Earl Theresa finally announced the final decision.
“The Maple Mountain Range in the east will be managed by Lynn. If he can prove his ability, he can inherit my title.”
“This is the city lord’s final order, Lynn. Although you are not a nobleman, you will be the master of Fenglin Village and the entire Frost Maple Mountain Range from today. Grasp the opportunities before you and make merits of them, and you will be awarded the title. I believe in you.”
Many nobles breathed a sigh of relief, but they were still a bit dissatisfied. Especially some young nobles, who looked at Lynn with intense jealousy. At this time, Lynn was a bit dumbfounded and did not speak. Just as the city lord explained her verdict, Lynn heard a voice in his head.
“Congratulations to the host for gaining new territory and enabling the High Lord system. Please use the system properly to unify the world.”
“Binding success reward: a novice gift package. System points: 100.”
