Chapter 29 Joining the Magicians Association! Time to Go Back to the Territory and Prepare For War!
Lynn’s ceremony was perfect for a salute to a noble. He expressed his gratitude.
”Thank you, Your Excellency the Magician.”
Several magicians appreciated him even more for his polite tone. Once Lynn won first place and became a nobleman, everybody cheered. Lynn was not excited, but instead had a restrained calm air about him. Ramill praised Lynn for his mature behavior.
”Restraint from wisdom would determine the future of a magician. I again invite you to become my student, as I will give you the best guidance.”
”Thank you yet again, but I do not need it,” Lynn declined once more.
Several of the teachers shook their heads in regret, but none were angry. The wisdom of magicians made them well balanced, and so they could not become angry at such a thing. Ramill stayed behind while everyone left.
”I will leave you my address. If you change your mind, feel free to contact me no matter the time. I will leave you a seat as a disciple.”
Lynn nodded in gratitude. Ramill smiled kindly at him.
”I will have someone from the Magic Society bring a robe to your place along with my letter. Now, go back to rest, son.”
Lynn said his goodbyes to Ramill and went back to his carriage. Once the test was over, he was free to leave. He did not need to give his address to Ramill since he had been required to give it before the test. The magic robe along with the magician’s badge would be delivered later to his address.
Getting a badge was the same as an automatic admission into the Magician’s Association, and there were no substantial constraints. There was no need for a payment nor any rules that one had to follow. The association was simply a place for identification and trading. For example, when Lynn’s magic value reaches 10,000 people could find him by searching for second order wizards. With the help of the association, identifying wizards could be done at any time.
If Lynn ever needed some magic equipment, raw materials or magic potions he could write down what he wanted and give it to the organisation. They would help find the right items, but charge a ten percent service fee for each. The cost was high, but it would save the magicians a lot of trouble.
Lynn got into his carriage and left the square. Many of the girls were impressed with Lynn, but he did not care, as a true superior sits on his own without being seduced. He was not interested in them.
”Linze is running so fast,” Lucy said with some regret.
”He is not worth my time. He is gone. He is not even qualified to be trampled by me.”
A magic value of more than 1300 points was reached for the first time in history. Lynn had set a record. The entire city of Monlar was talking about Lynn’s name as he was an absolute genius. People did not even talk about Linzer. Lynn’s powerful talent had robbed people of all of their glory, so Linze was not even worth mentioning.
”No one will ever say you are not qualified to ride in the carriage,” Lucy said as she took Lynn’s arm.
During their journey to Monlar and their stay at the city, Lynn’s civilian clothing had attracted strange glances from passersby. There were even two soldiers who said Lynn was not qualified to ride in such a carriage, but Lucy confronted the lord of the city to make the two soldiers get out of the way. With Lucy there, no one could bully Lynn. Yet, she hoped that Lynn would get the respect he deserved. Lynn was finally a nobleman!
However, it was only the lowest title of Baron, and there was no territory allocated to him by the empire. It did not matter though. All Lynn needed was a knighthood, and just like Lynn’s wizard rank his nobility title would also rise. The four most powerful cursed wizards were sealed by the king, but the title was something to be chased after for a lifetime or even generations to obtain. However, for Lynn it was only a matter of time.
On his way back to the hotel, Lynn was cheered by countless people. No more than the instant he entered his room he heard a knock at the door. He opened it and saw two magicians in wizard’s robes.
”Hello, Lord Lynn. I am here to give you your robe and badge.”
The man in the back took out a square robe with a golden badge on it with a pattern of fire inscribed on the badge.
”Magician robes are all white, and in order to facilitate the identification of the users the badges are carved with different patterns depending on the magician’s attribute.”
“A pattern is a first order magician, and the higher the order the more extravagant the pattern becomes. The ninth order and above will become a pure pattern and nothing more will be added to it.”
The people of the Magician’s Association were very meticulous. Lynn finished listening and looked at the other sides’ robes. There was no badge.
”The holy empire might have a large population, but the amount of wizards are very few. I am not qualified to be a magician, but I can pass on a message,” he said with a laugh.
”I am sorry, I have offended you,” Lynn apologized.
”You are well mannered. Please accept the robe and badge along with the ten gold coins. And here is Lord Ramill’s letter. If there is any damage to the robe, you can always contact the association and present your badge. We will give you a new one for free and send it to your territory.”
Lynn nodded and thanked the men, then gave the other party a gold coin as a gift. He closed the door and tried on the wizard’s robe, and it fitted well. The robes only had three sizes: small, medium, and large. It could also be used as a cloak as long as the size fitted. The robe fitted Lynn perfectly, adding to his intelligence and calm demeanor. Lucy’s beautiful eyes flashed and stared at Lynn.
”Is this your first contact with the Magician’s Association?” Lynn asked her. “Just look at you, curiosity is written all over your face.”
”There are very few wizards in the Northern territories. There are two in Frost Maple City, but they are only hired ones. They only fight when we need them, so this is my first contact with the association.”
”It is okay,” Lynn said while putting away his robe. “Let us get to know them later. Let us pack up and go back.”
”So fast,” Lucy said out of surprise.
”I am a baron,” Lynn said with a deep smile. “I can now declare war. Let us go back and prepare.”
