Chapter 49. It doesn’t matter who the enemy is! Just crush them!
”Kumori Town? The one that produces wine?” Lynn confirmed.
”That is them.”
”How many troops do they have? As far as I know, they have not waged a war in many years, and they are not a trading town. I doubt they have very many soldiers.”
”According to the merchants who buy their wine,” starts the servant, “they have an army of more than 1,000 people. They are also well equipped and trained.”
Lynn went deep into thought. The attendant looked at Lynn’s face and pressed on cautiously.
”Lord Lynn, is it possible that the Northern Aristocrats have united to deal with you? There are definitely not that many in Kumori, so there must be someone secretly helping them.”
The attendant looked at Lynn’s face in worry that Lynn would become angry at the nobles’ exclusion. Lynn only patted the person on the shoulder.
”These questions are meaningless. All we need to know is that someone is going to attack us and we are going to eradicate them. That is enough. As for who the enemy is, it does not matter.”
The attendant was affected by Lynn’s confidence in an instant.
”You are absolutely right! I will kill any enemies necessary for you!”
”Do not worry. Theresa is already taking the lead for me. Even if Kumori wants to attack, they will be impeded. We still have time to prepare. Can you buy a wolf?”
”Got it! You have the Devil’s luck. There happens to be a caravan further up north that has hunted a group of Blood Wolves. I have bought 200 of them for 20 gold.”
Blood Wolves could be tamed by experienced handlers, but they are limited so the animals tend to have a higher cost. Lynn nodded in satisfaction.
”Very well. Send them over.”
”They are already on their way. We expect to have them arrive by tomorrow or the day after. Rau found a merchant selling carrier pigeons, so we also bought 100 of those so that they could fly to Forst Maple City and Frost Leaf City respectively from Fenglin village.”
Lynn nodded in satisfaction. Now, all three settlements would be closer together in terms of communication. Information needed to be delivered in a short amount of time regardless if it was commercial or war topics. Homings pigeons were a good choice, but there was actually a faster way to transport news. The Magician’s Association had a spell that was used to convey written information, but you needed to buy to spells to convey a message. Also, the stones could only be used five times. For ten gold coins per stone, it was a pricey alternative that the Kyle family nor Lynn could afford.
The next day Lynn received 1,700 points. The System was gradually giving out more points every day, but Lynn was not in a hurry to use his points as the Blood Wolves had been purchased already and would be delivered soon. Lynn had to hurry and use the points to expand the number of troops in his corps.
Currently, Lynn had two squads with a total of 173 fighters. In the face of a thousand member army, Lynn’s legion had strength so the chances of winning were not insignificant. Yet, the difference in numbers was too great. This would lead to heavy casualties. Once 200 more fighters joined, the balance of power would shift in Lynn’s favor.
Lucy was lying sound asleep in bed as her enthusiasm for becoming a magician was far less than her will to sleep in. Lynn did not bother her either, but instead stroked her long, smooth silver hair. Once he finished he left the castle. Some of the villagers had already gotten up and started to work by the time Lynn exited the castle.
Lynn went to see the greenhouses, and saw that the number of flame mushrooms had shrunk to half. They were still growing well, though. The irises were also situated perfectly, but there were only two left. They would most likely be removed today. Lynn was concerned about the irises and made a detailed record of the flowers, especially taking note of when the flowers budded.
After observing the plants, the sky had grown darker. However, some of the villagers had already begun to carry food and water to the mountain. Once Lynn was finished with the potions, Lynn found a quiet place and started to meditate. The flame mushrooms combined with the effect of Lynn’s magic sword produced an amazing effect on his mana.
Right now, Lynn’s mana should be close to 2,700 points. Although, this was only a guess. When Lynn felt that the magic value had reached 3,000 points, he would be able to test it only once since the stones he bought before were useless. After meditating for a while, Lynn went back to the castle and had lunch with Lucy who had woken up a little while back. Afterwards, Lucy was finally willing to meditate after holding Lynn and acting like a baby.
Lynn found another place that was devoid of any human presence and began to practice his magic control. After trying to control two spells at the same time, he found a new way to improve. The power of each spell was fixed, with the only way to increase their power was to use a magic tool. If one was not satisfied with the power, they would just switch to a more powerful spell.
Yet, Lynn found a new way to increase the strength of the spells. Just control more than one spell at a time! By having two spells in the same area, the magic would increase in power, but this was difficult. Lynn had only succeeded once during a crisis and could not easily replicate that same feeling.
Lynn had been practicing everyday for the past few days by exhausting his mana before going to sleep. His progress was not bad, but even though Lynn had been failing he gradually regained his touch. That afternoon the villagers who went to the mountain to transport supplies came down the mountain with something in hand.
Lynn looked at them and instantly became happy. An Epee! Five of them! The shape of the sword was the same as the ones used by the half beast warriors previously, but the quality was significantly better. The ones that Lynn had bought were the cheapest ones that used poor iron ore. The blades had taken a lot of damage during the war.
However, the quality of the iron in the Frost Maple Mountains was very high, and just by smelting and forging them the quality had increased dramatically. Lynn gave the epees to the warriors who had evolved five times. The other beasts became envious.
”Do not worry,” Lynn comforted them. “All of you should have weapons before the war begins.”
Now, Lynn’s territory could produce weapons on its own in addition to purchasing more. Before the war started, Lynn should be able to arm more than three hundred of his fighters. The warriors went back to work in good spirits. By the evening, the caravan responsible for transporting the goods arrived. In their carts, there were many cages that contained red haired Blood Wolves. Lynn took a closer look at them and noticed they were large, similar to the Silver Wolves.
Despite their fierce names, they were actually a smarter and quieter breed of wolves. Lynn was satisfied with them, so all of them were moved into the cages in Lynn’s territory. The one hundred homing pigeons were placed outside of a greenhouse.
The homing pigeons were well behaved and strong, which meant that they could fly long distances with at rapid speed. Once the money had been transferred over to the merchants, they paid tribute to Lynn and left the territory. Lynn then walked to the cages and began to evolve the Blood Wolves!
