- Chapter 8 - Cultivating Magic Potions Is A Success! Lynn Is Going To Be A Magician!
The villagers knelt down and looked at Lynn in awe.
”I brought back seeds for a new crop and although it is not a magic mushroom, the yield can reach fifteen hundred kilograms per acre. Burn the rye in the fields and plant the new crop,” Lynn ordered.
The villagers hesitated as there were risks in growing a new crop. Then there was the worry of burning the rye, as they might not have enough food if the new crop did not take. Yet, Lynn had just hunted down multiple demons and brought back a potion mushroom. The villagers came to recognize Lynn’s abilities as a Lord. In the end, Bark took the initiative.
”We obey your orders, my Lord.”
This world’s air pollution was less than Lynn’s other world. So after all of the crops were harvested, they were directly burned at night. Before planting the wheat seeds, Lynn ordered that the seeds be soaked with water. This would result in a higher rate of germination1. Lynn had learned this after a few years of studying, and told the villagers the details on how to grow the seeds.
The villagers did not recognize the process, but the older people had a good memory and remembered his words. With the problem of tilling the fields resolved, Lynn went to a wooden house at the mouth of the village. Here, Buno had prepared the soil for growing the potions. The fertilizer used was half animal feces and half rotting wood. Planting was a dirty job, but if you wanted to do it well you had to accept that fertilizer smelled bad.
Lynn’s face was calm as he was not an idiot noble who knew nothing. He had wisdom, and from this wisdom he knew that the horrible smell meant profit. When he was ready, Lynn took out a magic mushroom and removed the spores from it.
”Water the soil for tonight, and tomorrow morning let us bury the spores in the soil,” said Lynn.
”I will take care of it, rest assured,” replied Buno.
”It is hard work, Uncle Buno.”
”It is not hard. I just do not want to waste any of your knowledge.”
Buno really admired Lynn. In this world, the techniques for cultivating magic potions were an absolute secret with the knowledge belonging to only a handful of nobles. Since Lynn was not a true aristocrat, he was not eligible to touch the potions. However, he had already mastered the art of growing them. Buno would never squander Lynn’s knowledge.
Lynn glanced at the spores and turned away. Lynn had no knowledge about whether he should plant the spores on a stone across the river, but he wanted to try it. He was not afraid of failure. In order to become the best through the Maple Forest Mountains, he had to learn through trial and error to find success.
Lynn was calm and knew that he would succeed in the end, so he was not in any hurry. After he left the building, he went back to the castle. Lucy had washed herself and was leaning on the bed reading a book. After seeing Lynn come in, she gently took off his coat.
”Is it all done?” she asked.
”Almost.”
”Do not worry, you have done a good job. We still have time.”
”I know.”
”Would a massage help you?”
Lucy was distressed at her helplessness for Lynn as she could not do much to help him. When she thought about it, she suddenly pulled Lynn down and put his head on her lap. Her hands gently pressed his forehead in a comfortable way.
”I have not changed my clothes yet. Won’t I make you dirty?” asked Lynn.
”It is okay,” warmly replies Lucy.
Lynn closed his eyes and enjoyed the massage. He laughed at his sudden thought.
”You really have different standards.”
”What do you mean?” asked Lucy curiously.
”You treat everyone one way, and treat me differently.” Lucy laughed at his words.
”It is because you are my most special person.”
Lynn smiled contently. Once night came, he used his Territory Search skill. Unfortunately, the treasure was found in the deepest part of the mountain and even though the item was magical, it would be impossible for Lynn to go there right now. It was a wasted opportunity, but he was not in a hurry. The resources at the base of the mountain were already enough for Lynn to develop the village for some time. Make good use of what you have in front of you. When the Legion and Lynn became strong, every single resource would become his.
Lynn had not eaten yet, so he ate something before going to bed. The giant Archfiend meat was delicious, and tasted similar to chicken. It had a little more bones, but it was great nonetheless. If one wanted to become a magician and master magic, they would have to be fed Archfiend meat and magic potions. Lynn’s brother, Linze, first ate Archfiend meat at the age of five.
As an unwanted child, Lynn did not qualify for the special meat. Thus, this was his first time eating it. He had brought down the prey with his army. So, he had the luxury to eat better than others. Once he finished eating, he went to sleep and noticed something upon waking up. His strength had increased! Lynn could rally his strength and become a warrior, but he did not. You could only choose martial arts or magic, not both.
Sorcerers were a distinguished class since a high ranking one could almost change the tide of war. However, as a drawback to their explosive power, training in magic was expensive. This was not a problem for Lynn, though, because he had money now. The magic mushrooms were planted and he had the Archfiend meat from the mountain. Now, it was time to hunt on the front line. He was going to become a magician!
The giant python meat was enough to last for a week, and whatever he could not finish would be given to the half-wolf warriors. At six in the morning the next day, Lynn was rewarded with System points. However, this time the reward was less. It was merely eighty points. This was probably due to Lynn burning the rye, causing the points to be lowered.
Lynn did not panic because this seemed normal. He got up and evolved two more warriors with the newly gained points. The Half Wolf Corp’s numbers grew, now reaching seven. The fighting power of his army kept becoming more and more powerful. Lynn did not explore the mountain today, but instead sent two servants and two warriors to collect fruits and hunt.
The fruits that grew naturally in the mountains were very sweet and the beasts were immensely palatable. These resources were almost inexhaustible, so Lynn wanted to send out people every day to amass resources. Lynn and Lucy, on the other hand, were in charge of patrolling the territory to help the villagers grow the wheat. Once noon arrived, Lynn wanted to check the progress of the potions. When he entered the building, Lynn found that the soil had changed slightly and was a little disappointed. However, upon closer inspection, there seemed to be a tiny bud growing out of the dirt. Lynn got excited!
It was originally thought that the mushrooms needed to be cultivated multiple times in order to succeed, so Lynn had not thought that growing them would be so painless. Once planted, they seemed to do fine by themselves. Lynn called Lucy over to share the good news.
”Great! Grow many more and do not sell them. You should eat them all! If our territory has a Wizard Lord, that would be amazing!” she exclaimed while holding his hands.
