Chapter 40: Natives
The zombie wearing glasses didn’t have the same bloodthirsty look in its eyes as other zombies.
This seemingly intelligent zombie was something Lin Feng only saw before in the female Tier 4 zombie during the zombie tide!

Lin Feng’s expression was icy. He didn’t issue any further orders to his soldiers, allowing the zombies in the hallway to launch their futile attacks from below.
Of course, those attacks were in vain. The zombies posed no threat to Lin Feng’s squad.
The situation reached a stalemate.
“Zhang Heng, can you target that zombie with the glasses?” Lin Feng asked Zhang Heng.
The elite Marine’s expression was confident: “For the nearest zombies, I can trigger the auto-aim feature and hit them with 100% accuracy. For that distant zombie, I’ll rely on my own experience.”
“But, I am confident,” Zhang Heng said with assurance.
“Let him taste the bullet,” Lin Feng ordered.
Then he commanded, “First group of Steel Flamethrower Soldiers, advance! All soldiers, attack forward!”
Lin Feng’s expression was icy, but it also carried a hint of disdain.
With a soft “pff,” Zhang Heng’s Type 97 rifle spat out a burst of flame, and the bullet shot out forcefully.
The bullet hit the zombie with glasses directly in the head!
With a “bang!” the glasses on the zombie’s nose shattered instantly.
The bullet entered through its left eye, penetrating into its brain, but it didn’t pass through the entire skull.

Immediately, the attacks from below subsided. Lin Feng could clearly feel that the zombies downstairs almost completely ceased their assault!
In front of Lin Feng, the Tier 4 zombie, surrounded by numerous Tier 2 and Tier 3 zombies, began to retreat.
Before entering the hallway, the Tier 4 zombie looked at the human squad with an almost intelligent gaze.
Then, all the zombies retreated, leaving the entire top-floor research center seemingly empty, allowing Lin Feng to enter.
The sound of footsteps echoed as all the soldiers entered, still maintaining a defensive formation. The entire squad was now in a fully defensive stance.
Inside the research center, there was nothing worth searching for. All the documents were destroyed, and the occasional food items were of no interest to Lin Feng.
Suddenly, a special laboratory appeared in front of the squad.
This laboratory was different from the others; its door was tightly shut, and there were marks of zombie attacks on the closed door.
As a Steel Flamethrower Soldier approached the laboratory door, a cold female voice rang out.
“I am sorry that you were lured here by the message spread by that zombie. You are the seventh team to be drawn here. I hope you can escape this place quickly. This is all I can do for you.” The female voice came from inside the laboratory, clearly observing the scene through surveillance.
Lin Feng was taken aback; he hadn’t expected to find a real person here!

Lin Feng felt a surge of joy. These natives were akin to NPCs in a game, and they could be conquered or recruited.

“Please leave quickly. This zombie will likely wait for an hour to see if you have any other companions. If not, it will attack,” the female voice, cold yet melodious, continued.
The owner of this voice was undoubtedly an ice-cold beauty.
However, Lin Feng had no intention of leaving. There were still more than two hours left until the mission time ended.
That zombie wouldn’t be able to keep him here.
A slight smile curved at the corner of Lin Feng’s mouth.
