The mother in law gifts me a mountain for a new beginning - Chapter 17

Three days later, Lynn received a letter from Theresa. It did not mention the bet, but it told Lynn that the weapons were a gift from her. Even though she did not like wine, she praised Lynn’s juice like wine that he brewed. She hoped that he would give her more next time. At the end of the letter, Theresa apologized to both Lynn and Lucy.

”Why did she apologize?” Lucy asked puzzled. Lynn understood what she meant.

”It is because she did not send troops.”

When the weapons arrived, Lynn went and took a look at his legion. Over the course of five days, Lynn had gained 1,450 points. All of them were spent for the Evolutionary Corps. He now had fifty half beast warriors who have evolved three times, with three of them at rank four. Lynn trained them so that they would move in a line. However, he was aware that the power of the warriors was not as single minded fighters but as a single unit of like minds.

Because of this, Lynn did not train too much. The soldiers understood the ultimate purpose of war and the strategic intent behind it. That was enough. This time, Lynn did not get a strong bow. They were intended for the villagers to use so that they could put up resistance against the incoming wave. The effect would be better, but the bows would not have much of an impact. So, Lynn did not ask for them. The only fighting force was his Half Wolf Corps. By this time, Buno found Lynn and reported the situation.

”The territory around here has a lot of people watching from a distance. They have family emblems, so they should be nobles’ entourages.”

”They are probably looking to see how I will die,” Lynn smiled.

”They are provoking us!” Buno’s eyes flashed with murderous intent.

”Has the Sla family come?” Lynn said while glancing away.

”They seem to be on their way.”

”When the impact of the beast tide is suppressed, lead some beasts over and kill the Sla family,’ Lynn ordered.

”Should the beasts do it, or should we do it ourselves?” asked Buno.

”Do it yourself. The people of the other families will not move for the time being. It is not time to kill the servants of the Sla family.”

”I got it.”

Lynn looked into the mountains. Two days had passed since Lynn temporarily abandoned collecting the grapes. The riot of beasts seemed to be coming early this year. A great monster would seize the land, causing the ordinary beasts to rush down the mountain. This was the reason why the beast tides came into fruition.

This year there would be second ranked monsters that will appear in the wave, proving that powerful monsters lived in the depths in the mountains. Even the second ranked Archfiend could not survive the great monster, and would be joining the ranks of the lesser monsters.

The people in the village were looking at how they should ward off the incoming horde. Lynn, on the other hand, was not worried and was thinking that the effect would be good if one could capture and eat the giant beast.

It was getting dark, and while Lynn was meditating he suddenly opened his eyes. Not far away, the noble attendants also opened their eyes from the carriage. The more experienced ones jumped out of the carriage and put their ears to the ground and listened to the ground’s vibrations.

”Here we go!” someone said. “The beast tide is coming today!”

”Lynn’s end is coming!”

”Attention! Once Genglin Village is broken, we have to keep Princess Lucy safe and take her back to Frost Maple City!”

The tide of beasts coming in the dark was the worst possible scenario as the eyesight of a beast was greater than that of a humans. Fighting in the dark would be bad for a human army. Lynn quickly got dressed and ordered the villagers to light the torches that had been prepared in advance. The torches lit up the whole village and gave everyone a sense of reassurance. Lynn looked away to see a large number of green eyes moving towards the mountain village! The noble attendants in the distance were stunned.

”They seem to be heading for the Maple Forest Village!”

”After all, it seems there is a second ranked Archfiend, so I guess they were all ordered!”

”Oh my God! I am afraid Lynn will die horribly. He has even given Princess Lucy up! He has been a Lord for only a few days. I am afraid that he won’t be able to live past the wave!”

What more, the fence gate of the village was open! There was a team of fighters coming out of the door consisting of half orc warriors. Each one was wearing leather armor and looked more like an army of soldiers! They were carrying a large sword in their hands, and had eyes of a wild animal. They had hard looks of muscle and hair on their bodies, and had an oppressive air about them.

”Tear up the tide of beasts!” Lynn gave the one command while standing high.

”On your life!” the half orc warriors all laughed with bloodlust.

They began to storm at the rapidly incoming horde. Yet, they were faster. The front of the army was a rank four semi-wolf warrior who was the fastest. He jumped up and slammed hard into the tide of beasts. It was like a huge stone thrown by a giant. At the moment he landed, the surrounding beasts were instantly scattered.

Then, it swung the big sword in its hand, killing countless beasts. The flying bodies flew into the dense population of beasts and caused more casualties.  The half orc warrior was intimidating even when the enemies were this dense. This was just the power of the half beast warrior! And just like this one, Lynn had a total of fifty of them!

The beast tide looked terrible. However as soon as the half wolf army rushed them, the beast tide was dispersed. The villagers of Fenglin Village were ready to resist, but found that the monsters were not coming through at all. The noble servants in the distance found themselves so shocked that they forgot to breathe. Lynn’s legion was this powerful?

They had guessed a long time ago that Lynn had a half beast regiment and figured that he wanted weapons in order to arm his soldiers, but they could not have thought that they had this much strength. Lynn’s warriors were far more fierce than the average semi-beast. The beast tide was instantly dispersed as soon as they joined the battle. It was at this time, however, that someone shouted.

”It is not over yet! Class two monsters are about to appear!”
